Abstract

Humans easily exploit the nature because their ethics towards the environment is based on the anthropocentrism perspective. Marine pollution and environmental damage for the sake of individual or certain groups economic satisfaction indicate a lack of human awareness to protect the environment. These activities are the cause of the environmental damage in the Serdadu Pantai novel by Laode Insan. This study aims to find out and describe ecocriticism in the Serdadu Pantai novel by Laode Insan related to the environmental damage, the behavior of the characters causing the environmental damage, and social and economic backgrounds as a factor in the occurrence of the environmental damage in the novel of Serdadu Pantai by Laode Insan. This study applies a qualitative research employing an ecocriticism approach. The primary data source of this study is the Serdadu Pantai novel by Laode Insan published by PT Grasindo in 2019. The data in this study is a fragment of the text of the Serdadu Pantai novel by Laode Insan which allegedly contains ecological criticism. The secondary data sources are journals and books related to environmental ecology and literary ecocriticism. The results show that; (1) the environmental damage in the Serdadu Pantai novel was demonstrated through coral reefs damage and water pollution caused by the behavior of people who utilize natural resources in a way that is not in accordance with the concept of conservation, such as using trawlers, poisons, and bombs to catch fish, and also through the characters’ way of thinking toward the environment; (2) the social and economic background as a factor in the occurrence of the environmental damage was demonstrated through a social background that lacks education about nature conservation which later gives impact on long-term environmental damage. Economic problems of livelihoods that depend on marine resources as the main source of income have also created excessive exploitative behavior of the community which causes damage to the marine ecosystems.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji strategi tutur yang digunakan oleh Generasi Z dalam komunikasi digital di media sosial dan bagaimana strategi tersebut mencerminkan identitas sosial mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis wacana pragmatik terhadap 150 potongan teks unggahan dari Instagram, TikTok, dan Twitter. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat enam strategi tutur dominan yang digunakan, yaitu ekspresi emosional, penanda kesantunan, campur kode, intensifier, adjacency pairs, dan hedging. Strategi ekspresi emosional merupakan yang paling dominan, mencerminkan kebutuhan Generasi Z untuk membangun kedekatan emosional dalam komunikasi daring. Sementara itu, penggunaan penanda kesantunan dan hedging menunjukkan keberlanjutan nilai sopan santun dalam konteks digital. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi tutur tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai alat komunikasi, tetapi juga sebagai instrumen pembentukan identitas sosial. Dengan demikian, penggunaan bahasa oleh Generasi Z di media sosial bersifat strategis, kontekstual, dan merefleksikan nilai-nilai sosial yang hidup dalam komunitas digital mereka.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of multiliteracy through an ecocritical approach in Indonesian language learning in the digital era. The research objective is to analyze the effectiveness of integrating multiliteracy and literary ecology to improve students' language competence and environmental awareness. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a classroom action research design conducted at MA Darul Hikmah Kabupaten Bima for three months. The research subjects were 32 students of class XI. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and document analysis. Research instruments in the form of observation sheets, interview guidelines, and multiliteracy assessment rubrics. The results showed that the implementation of multiliteracy through an ecocritical approach could increase: (1) students' digital literacy skills by 78%, (2) visual literacy skills by 82%, (3) critical literacy skills by 75%, and (4) ecological awareness by 85%. This approach also successfully integrates Indonesian language learning with contemporary environmental issues, creating meaningful and relevant learning. The research implications show the importance of transforming Indonesian language learning that integrates various types of literacy with ecological awareness to prepare students to face 21st century challenges.
