Abstract

Skipjack Tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis L.) is a pelagic fish that dominates the waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This fish has unique physical characteristics, including an aerodynamic body, a metallic blue or teal back, and transverse stripes that distinguish it from other species. In Indonesia, skipjack tuna is abundant in the waters of Manado and Maluku. This study aims to determine the types of bacteria present in processed skipjack tuna floss (abon cakalang) based on morphological and physiological characteristics through biochemical tests. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach conducted in a laboratory setting. Data were gathered through direct observation of samples undergoing various tests and subsequently presented in a descriptive manner. Based on the identification data, 30 bacterial isolates were found in the processed skipjack tuna floss. The isolates were identified macroscopically and microscopically. The findings of the study reveal that the bacteria found in processed skipjack tuna floss, based on biochemical tests and profile matching, are suspected to belong to the Staphylococcus and Vibrio genera.

Abstract

Abstract

The low activity of students in biology learning is the main challenge in efforts to improve the quality of science learning in secondary schools. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the application of the Project Based Learning learning model in increasing student activity and learning outcomes in respiratory system materials at SMA Negeri 2 Langowan. This research is a Class Action Research that is carried out in two cycles, each of which includes stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were 13 students in grade XI. The instruments used include student activity observation sheets and the final test of the cycle based on description questions. The results showed that in the first cycle, only 38.46% of students achieved learning completeness with an average score of 60. However, after improving the strategy in cycle II through active mentoring, learning motivation, and strengthening group work, completeness increased to 92.30% with an average score of 84.69. These findings indicate that the Project Based Learning learning model is able to build student activeness through contextual, collaborative, and hands-on experience-based learning. The increase in activeness is reflected not only in test results, but also in students' active participation in discussions, group presentations, and project completion. The implications of this study show that Project Based Learning is feasible to be implemented as an innovative learning strategy to improve the quality of student interaction and engagement in biology learning on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

In the learning process, teachers have not employed a variety of instructional models that align with the diverse learning styles of the students, resulting in a diminished interest in learning among the participants. Accordingly, it is anticipated that this study will enable teachers to engage students more effectively in the learning process, thereby cultivating a greater interest in learning. The objective of this research is to enhance the learning outcomes of students on the subject of Plant Growth and Development by implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model at SMA Kristen Tumou Tou Girian Bitung. This study is a qualitative descriptive research. Data collection techniques include questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. The research design employed is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of the study are 20 students from class XIA who experienced the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model. Data were gathered using both tests and observations. Classically, the students’ learning outcomes improved from 70% in cycle I to 100% in cycle II. Consequently, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning method has enhanced the learning outcomes of the students in class XIA of the specialized program at SMA Kristen Tumou Tou Girian Bitung.
