Abstract

AbstractTwenty seven strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from bakasang, Indonesian traditional fermented fish product. In general, LAB have inhibitory activity againts pathogenic bacteria and spoilage bacteria. Screening for antimicrobia activity of isolates were performed with well-diffusion method. One isolate that was designed as Pediococcus BksC24 was the strongest against bacteria pathogenic and spoilage bacteria. This strain was further identified by 16S rRNA gen sequence comparison. Isolates LAB producing antimicrobial agents from bakasang were identified as Pediococcus acidilactici.Keywords : Bakasang, LAB, antimicrobial, phenotypic characteristics, 16S rRNA gene

Abstract

. Nutmeg fruit is widely used in the medicine formula and also various kinds of processed foods and beverages. Nutmeg meat can be processed into syrup, fruit juice, jam, dodol pala and wine. The fruit is believed to be one of the natural habitats of bacteria, including lactic acid bacteria (BAL). The study aims to determine the type of BALES isolated in nutmeg grapes (Myristica fragrans Houtt) which has the ability to produce exopolysaccharides. Based on the results of the study obtained 15 BAL isolates namely AP1, AP2, AP3, AP4, AP5, AP6, AP7, AP8, AP9, AP10, AP11, AP12, AP13, AP14, and AP15. The exopolysaccharides produced by the isolates are 400 mg/L, 530 mg/L, 1200 mg/L, 730 mg/L, 60 mg/L, 460 mg/L, 600 mg/L, 200 mg/L, 930 mg/L, 1130 mg/L, 200 mg/L, 130 mg/L, 1000 mg/L, 800 mg/L. The next 15 isolates are identified using the profile matching method. The results of the identification show that 15 BAL isolates were included in the genus Lactobacillus and are a species of Lactobacillus bulgaricus.    Keyword : Isolation, Identification, nugmeg grapes (myristica fragrans houtt), lactic acid bacteria, exopolysaccharides

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Research has been carried out to determine the content of the bacterium escherichia coli in well water dug in the sub-district of Lirung, regency of the Talaud Islands. Water is one of the sources of living needs of living things, humans, animals and plants. Well water is a means of clean water from the soil for daily use, such as drinking water, cooking, washing and bathing. Therefore, the water must be pollution-free and meet the quality requirements for clean water. e.coli bacteria are bacteria that generally live in the intestines of humans and animals. This research uses a quantitative descriptive method. The results showed that 9 samples of water wells taken from 3 sites in the Lirung sub-district, in the regency of the Talaud Islands, contained e.coli bacteria which exceeded the maximum threshold not in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health RI No.  416 / MENKES / PER / IX / 1990   Keywords: Bacteria Escherichia coli, Dug Well Water.

Abstract

Abstract

Ants are a group of social insects that belong to the order Hymenoptera and the Family Formicidae. This study aims to determine the type of ants (Formicidae) in the Mangrove Area of Tatengesan Village, Southeast Minahasa. This research occurred in Tatengesan Village, Posumaen District, Southeast Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi. The research method uses a purposive sampling method with the placement of the paths determined based on considerations taking into account the physical and biological conditions that affect the presence of ants in the field. Observation lines were made in as many as three transects, each with four observation plots. Data was collected using adhesive paper traps (Fly Sheet) and direct capture method (hand collecting) and analyzed using the Shannon-Weiner diversity index, species richness index, and species evenness index. Placement of self-adhesive paper on each transect, including lower tree stratum, highest tide limit, middle tree stratum, and upper tree stratum. Based on the results of the research on the observation transect, there were five genera, namely Anoplolepis with 25 individual ants, Camponotus with 31 individual ants, Crematogaster with 98 individual ants, Oecophylla 2168 ants, and Tetraponera 6 individual ants from 6 species of ants consisting of Anoplolepis gracilipes, Camponotus atriceps, Camponotus sp., Crematogaster scutellaris, Oecophylla smaragdina, and Tetraponera nigra. The highest number of genera obtained was Oecophylla, the highest number of species was Oecophylla smaragdina, and the number of individuals caught was 2168.

Abstract

Tamba Beach has several ecosystems, namely seagrass beds, sandy and rocky. Ecologically, seagrass beds are home to marine life, including Echinodermata. Echinoderms play an important role as an integral part of the food chain, eating organic waste. The purpose of this study was to analyze the community structure of Echinoderms at Station I (Seagrass Zone), Station II (Sandy Zone) and Station III (Coral Zone). Two methods are used in this study. The first is a qualitative description method by directly observing and quantitatively calculating the diversity index, uniformity index, dominance and abundance index formulas. The echinoderms found consisted of 4 classes, namely Holothuidea, Ophiuroidea, Echinoidea and class Asteroidea. The echinoderms found at the study site used a diversity index classified as stable. The dominance index is low because there are no dominant individuals, and the uniformity index is low. From the results obtained from the abundance in Tamba Beach, the highest value was in the Diadema setosum species with 113 individuals. Diadema setosum has the highest quantity at the three existing stations. This species can adapt to environmental changes.

Abstract

This study aims to inventory orchid species in the West Tomohon area using the accidental sampling method of exploration in a predetermined place. Orchids are a type of flowering plant that comes from the Orchidaceae family. Each type of orchid has its own characteristics. Tomohon City has abundant natural resources, including ornamental plants such as orchids. Data on orchid diversity in West Tomohon Sub-district has never been reported. Orchid inventory is an activity that records the diversity of orchid species in an area. This research is descriptive-qualitative research. The results of this study have yielded 10 species of orchids belonging to nine genera in one family. The orchid species found in the West Tomohon area consist of Arachnis sp., Arundina graminifolia, Cattleya sp., Dendrobium biggibum, Dendrobium moschatum, Epidendrum secundum, Oncidium flexuosum, Phaius tankervilleae, Phalaenopsis amabilis, and Vanda arcuata. The most common orchid found in this area is the moon orchid, Phalaenopsis amabilis.

Abstract

Mosquitoes are vectors of infectious diseases that must be controlled. One of the efforts to control mosquito vectors is by using anti-mosquito products, including anti-mosquito gel spray. Most anti-mosquito products are composed of chemicals that are harmful to health and the environment, so alternative anti-mosquito products made from natural ingredients are needed. The aim of this research is to determine an effective anti-mosquito gel spray formula from a combination of marigold flowers and chrysanthemum flowers. This research uses experimental methods to find the most effective gel spray formulation from different percentages of marigold and chrysanthemum flowers. The variations used are 0%, 2.5%, 5% and 10%. Tests were carried out using 30 adult female mosquitoes. The results obtained through the extraction of marigold flowers showed a yield of 8.922% and a yield of chrysanthemum flowers of 4.560%. The organoleptic test carried out on 10 panelists showed that on average the panelists thought they liked (in the range 4-5) their preference for color and aroma. , texture and reaction after 10 minutes of using the gel spray. The pH test showed that the four gel spray formulas had a pH of 6 or neutral. The results of the homogeneity test carried out with a glass object showed that the four gel spray formulas were homogeneous. The protective power of the 2.5% gel spray formula is 18.01%; gel spray formula 5% is 66.29% and gel spray formula 10% is 88.61%. From these results, it can be seen that a formula with a concentration of marigold and chrysanthemum flower extracts of 10% can be the most effective anti-mosquito gel spray. It is hoped that the results of this research will be useful for society in terms of using mosquito repellent that is environmentally friendly and safe for health.
