Abstract

Abstract

The online learning policy was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic in various countries around the world. Problems arise in learning biology that requires laboratory experiment activities. This research provides an innovation in entomology learning with a project-based learning method using insect biodiversity in the local ecosystem, namely Lake Tondano. This study aims to determine the ability of science process skills and student responses using the project-based learning method. Project-based learning is one of the methods established for the independent learning process to learn the independent curriculum. The research was conducted with an exploratory, descriptive research method. Science process skills and student project products are measured using a rubric. Student learning outcomes are measured using quiz questions with the google form application.Meanwhile, student responses were measured using a questionnaire. The study results showed that the science process skills of students who were taught using the Project-based learning method were in the good and very good categories. The resulting project output is a practical guide based on the assessment rubric which is in good and very good grades. Student responses regarding the application of Project based learning in entomology courses are in the agree and strongly agree categories. Student learning outcomes showed an average in the good and very good categories. The application of project-based learning can stimulate the ability of science processes and student learning outcomes in entomology courses. Project-based learning is very appropriate to be applied to fields of science that require a lot of experimental activities. Because it is carried out in small research groups, the project-based learning method is appropriate for learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Aedes mosquitoes have the behavior of sucking blood repeatedly (multiple bites) in one gonotrophic cycle, these mosquitoes are also very effective at transmitting the virus to humans (WHO 2004). Kawada et al. (2007) reported that the foraging activity of A. albopictus was less than 0.1 times compared to A. aegypti under laboratory conditions, this result is consistent with the tendency to bite both species in nature. The target-attack frequency (foraging activity) in A. aegypti female mosquitoes in unfed conditions is 30 times greater than that of A. albopictus mosquitoes in several laboratory treatments (Kawada, et al. 2007). Aedes sp is a deadly infectious vector between another dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and chikungunya. Pineleng is a marginal/suburban area of Station 1. Recent studies have reported changes in habitat patterns of Aedes sp, especially Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti . The aim of this study is to characterize the population density of the Aagoan sp. Imago based on the time distribution and altitude of the sea surface. The population density characteristics of the Aedes spagoed imago captured inside and outside the room based on the time distribution in North Sulawesi. The stages of the study consisted of larvae surveying, larval extraction and analysis, and imago extraction and analysis. The results showed that the high population of Ae aegypti was at 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the morning and 14:00 to 16:00 p.m. in the afternoon before the afternoon. in the morning before noon and at 14:00 to 18:00 in the afternoon before evening.

Abstract

This study aims to: Obtain distribution data and types of medicinal plants in Tareran District, South Minahasa. Obtain data on the use of medicinal plants for degenerative diseases in Tareran District, South Minahasa. Plant samples can be in the form of leaves, stems and roots or whole plants obtained in Tareran District, South Minahasa Regency. Samples of medicinal plants are devoted to medicinal plants that are used for degenerative diseases. The samples used were wet samples and dry samples (10% moisture content) and wet samples. Materials used include ethanol, alcohol, plant specimen paper, electric oven, etc. Inventory of medicinal plants using plant determination books and writing instruments, cameras and specimen boxes. Data on the use/utilization of medicinal plants using a questionnaire. The results showed that in Tareran District there are many types of plants used as medicinal plants for degenerative diseases, including: Cinnamon (hypertension), Noni (Diabetes), Temulawak (hyperlipidemia). The community has not cultivated medicinal plants intensively. Public knowledge of the scientific efficacy of medicinal plants is still very little so that it affects the utilization of these medicinal plants. In terms of the use of medicinal plants, the economically weak community uses medicinal plants more than the middle to upper economic community. In fact, there are more doubts about the efficacy of medicinal plants in the middle and upper economic community. The use of medicinal plants in the middle to upper economic community is only carried out by the elderly.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the use of audio-visual media in Problem-Based Learning to improve student learning outcomes in tenth grade SMA Negeri 2 Tondano using classroom action research as the research methodology. (1) Planning, (2) Action, (3) Observation, and (4) Reflection are the four major phases of a cycle. In data analysis, the1percentage of completed student1learning outcomes is utilized. The research result was derived from student learning outcomes using two cycles; in cycle I, the1percentage of classical completion was 44.44 percent and in cycle II, it was 55.55 percent. It became a reference for the subsequent cycle's follow-up. The classical percentage of completeness for cycle II was then 92.59 percent complete and 7.40 percent incomplete. This demonstrated that it followed the research indicator in a conventional manner. Therefore, it is unnecessary to follow the subsequent cycle. This study concludes that using problem-based learning audio-visual as a learning medium for virus materials is crucial for improving student learning outcomes among students in1class X at SMA Negeri 21Tondano.

Abstract

This research explores using the Predict, Observe, and Explain (POE) model to enhance the learning process in elementary schools, particularly in biology lessons. The study conducted at SMP Berea Tondano with class VII focuses on how the POE model affects student understanding and engagement, specifically in classifying living organisms. A classroom action research (CAR) approach was employed in two cycles, each involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. Nine students from class VII participated in the study. Data were collected through observations, student activity sheets, and tests at the end of each cycle to evaluate the impact of the POE model on learning outcomes and student engagement. The research findings revealed significant improvements in student engagement and learning outcomes across the two cycles. In the first cycle, 55.56% of students achieved the learning goals, which increased to 88.89% in the second cycle. Similarly, student activity levels rose from 35.71% in the first cycle to 78.57% in the second cycle, reflecting greater participation and motivation. The study concludes that the POE model effectively enhances student learning outcomes and promotes active engagement. By involving students in prediction, observation, and explanation, the POE model aids in better understanding and retention of biological concepts. Further research is suggested to explore its application in other subjects and educational contexts.
