Abstract

Infants weighing less than 2500 grams are classified as low birth weight (LBW) and have a high mortality rate in the first few days of life, as well as various complications over time. It is necessary to identify maternal risk factors that influence this condition so that it can be prevented early on. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the influence of maternal age, antenatal care (ANC) visits, anemia, smoking history, infectious diseases, and psychosocial factors on the occurrence of low birth weight in Kotawaringin Barat District Health Centers. Method: This inferential study used a retrospective observational design and was conducted from August to October at Semanggang Health Center. The study analyzed data from medical records and relevant documents collected between January and October 2024, involving 242 respondents. Data processing included organization, cleaning, and coding to ensure accuracy. Regression analysis was conducted to examine relationships between independent and dependent variables, supported by descriptive statistics to summarize respondent characteristics. Results: The results showed that maternal factors that positively contributed to preventing LBW were ANC visits (increasing birth weight by 134,421 times), Hb levels above 10 gr% (increasing birth weight by 65,506 times), and maternal age (increasing birth weight by 2,243 times) from 1500 grams, assuming other variables were constant. Meanwhile, maternal factors that negatively contributed to preventing LBW were infectious diseases (decreasing birth weight by 382,863 times), psychosocial factors (decreasing birth weight by 18,778 times), and smoking (decreasing birth weight by 5,064 times) from 1500 grams, assuming other variables were constant. Conclusions: In conclusion Adequate ANC visits, Hb levels above 10 gr%, and optimal maternal age significantly increase birth weight. Conversely, infections, psychosocial factors, and smoking increase the risk of low birth weight.

Abstract

Preeclampsia remains a major contributor to maternal morbidity and mortality, particularly during the postpartum period. Effective blood pressure control and optimal breastfeeding practices may play important roles in maternal recovery, yet evidence on their combined effects remains limited. This study aimed to examine the association between breastfeeding practices and blood pressure control with maternal outcomes among postpartum women with preeclampsia. A prospective cohort study was conducted among 120 postpartum women diagnosed with preeclampsia in selected hospitals in Kediri Regency, Indonesia, between July and December 2024. Participants were selected using simple random sampling from a population of 185 eligible women. Data collection was performed at baseline (?48 hours postpartum) and follow-up visits at weeks 1, 2, 4, and 6 postpartum. Breastfeeding practices were assessed using a structured questionnaire, while blood pressure was measured using standardized procedures. Maternal outcomes included recovery status, persistence of hypertension, complications, and hospital readmission. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted using SPSS. Blood pressure decreased significantly over the postpartum follow-up period. Women with good breastfeeding practices at 6 weeks postpartum had significantly higher odds of favorable maternal outcomes compared to those with suboptimal practices (AOR = 2.41; 95% CI: 1.12–5.18; p = 0.024). Controlled blood pressure was the strongest predictor of favorable outcomes (AOR = 3.76; 95% CI: 1.65–8.54; p = 0.002). Severity of preeclampsia was also significantly associated with maternal outcomes (AOR = 2.89; 95% CI: 1.31–6.39; p = 0.008). Breastfeeding practices and effective blood pressure control are important factors associated with improved maternal outcomes among postpartum women with preeclampsia. Strengthening integrated postpartum care, including continuous monitoring and breastfeeding support, is essential to optimize maternal recovery and reduce complications

Abstract

ABSTRACT Recently, high population is still a major problem faced by Indonesia. Controlling population growth through Long-Term Contraceptive Methods (LTMs) is one effort to realize quality families. However, users of LTMs in Indonesia have not yet met the target. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the roles of health workers, health education, and husbands' support on the interest in using Long-Lasting Mosquito Nets (LLMs) in fertile couples (PUS) in Palu City. This study used an observational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study consisted of fertile couples in Palu City, totaling 51,201 people. The sampling technique used was probability sampling with a simple random sampling approach, obtaining a sample of 381 respondents. Data analysis used logistic analysis. The results showed that the role of health workers, with a significance level of 0.011, husband's support with a significance level of 0.014 influenced the interest in using LTMs in Fertile Couples, while health education with a significance level of 0.111 did not influence the interest in using LTMs in Fertile Couples in Palu City. In shaping public perceptions of the use of contraceptives, health workers must have an active and positive role. A comprehensive approach is needed after providing education that not only focuses on delivering information but also on overcoming other obstacles. Involving husbands is essential to achieving effective family planning goals. Keywords: Health Workers, Health Education, Husband's Support, Interest in Use, Long-Term Contraceptive Methods.  ABSTRAK Jumlah penduduk yang masih tinggi masih menjadi masalah utama yang dihadapi Indonesia saat ini.
