Abstract

This research aims to analyze the level of science literacy ability and collaboration skill of prospective science teachers in the course of Matter and Energy and analyze the influence of STEM-PJBL learning on literacy abilities science and collaboration skills. This research is a pre-experiment with the research design used was One-Shot Case Study. In this design, students are given treatment, then observations are made about collaboration skill and they are given a scientific literacy ability test. The population in this study were all students of the faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, Universitas Negeri Makassar at the Science Education Study Program in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, while the sample in this study was students in the regular class of the 3rd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year which consisted of 2 classes that programmed the course of Matter and Energy. The regular class 01 as an experimental class and regular class 02 as a replication class. The research instruments used to measure collaboration skills are non-test instruments in the form of collaboration skills observation sheets and scientific literacy test instruments in the form of multiple choices. The results of descriptive statistical analysis show that the level of scientific literacy skills is in high category and the level of collaboration skills of prospective science teachers is in the very high category. The results of the inferential analysis show that the application of STEM-PJBL influences the scientific literacy abilities and collaboration skills of prospective science teachers in substance and energy courses. These results show that STEM-PJBL learning can be applied to other subjects because it can improve scientific literacy skills and collaboration skills of prospective teachers. It can be implemented to examine the effectiveness of this model in similar variables on the other subjects.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine: 1) the extent of improvement in science literacy skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 13 Makassar after implementing the multiple representation learning model, and 2) whether there is a significant difference in the average score improvement in science literacy skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 13 Makassar before and after the implementation of the multiple representation learning model. This research employs a pre-experimental design using the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study population includes all eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 13 Makassar, with purposive sampling selecting class VIII B as the sample. The research instrument used is a science literacy test. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The analysis results indicate that: 1) there is an improvement in science literacy skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 13 Makassar taught using the multiple representation learning model, which falls into the moderate category, and 2) there is a significant difference in the average score improvement in science literacy skills among students before and after the implementation of the multiple representation learning model.

Abstract

Purpose – This research aims to find out:  (1) the effectiveness of using mini solar panel props with guided inquiry models to improve students' science literacy, (2) whether there is a difference in the average score of significant improvement in students' science literacy before and after the implementation of mini solar panel props with guided inquiry models, (3) how much the effect size of using mini solar panel props with guided inquiry models to improve students' science literacy.Methodology – This is a pre-experimental study that used a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population included all students in class VIII of a junior high school in Yogyakarta. The purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample, which included 31 students from class VIII B. The instrument used was a science literacy test, while data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics.Findings – The results of the analysis concluded that 1) mini solar panel props with guided inquiry models effectively improve students' science literacy by 0.55 in the medium category, 2) there is a difference in the average score of significant improvement in students' science literacy before and after the implementation of mini solar panel props with guided inquiry models, 3) the implementation of mini solar panel props with guided inquiry models provides an effect size of 2.19 with a huge category on improving science literacy.Contribution - These findings are expected to improve science education by integrating mini solar panel props with guided inquiry models, making science learning more interesting, practical, and relevant to real-world applications.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential for students to navigate future challenges and comprehend complex issues. However, many students have not been trained to think critically in the context of science, particularly because the learning process still emphasises theoretical learning over active exploration. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of using mini solar panel teaching aids in conjunction with a guided inquiry model in improving the critical thinking skills of grade VIII junior high school students. This study was a Pre-Experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest Design. The study population consisted of all grade VIII junior high school students, with a sample of class VIII B comprising 31 students. The results showed that mini solar panel teaching aids, combined with a guided inquiry model, were effective in improving students' critical thinking skills, with an average increase in the N-Gain score of 0.63 in the moderate category. Second, there was a significant difference in the average score of students' critical thinking skills before and after the implementation of the teaching aids, with an average pretest score of 5.56 and a post-test score of 11.16. Third, the implementation of mini solar panel teaching aids using a guided inquiry approach had a significant impact on the development of students' critical thinking skills. This study demonstrates that the use of mini solar panel teaching aids in conjunction with a guided inquiry model can be an effective learning method for enhancing students' critical thinking skills in science learning.
