Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to analyze the financial feasibility and identify the influence of total production, planting area, and farmer identity (age, education level, farming experience, number of family dependents) on the income of lowland rice farmers in Selubuk Village, Air Napal District, North Bengkulu Regency. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with a survey method on 29 farmer respondents selected from 97 farmer families using the Slovin formula. Primary data were collected through questionnaires and interviews, while secondary data were obtained from related agencies. Data analysis included cost-revenue analysis (R/C ratio) and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: The results showed that lowland rice farming in Selubuk Village was financially feasible with an R/C ratio value of 3.39. The regression analysis results indicated that simultaneously, total production, planting area, age, farming experience, education level, and number of family dependents had a significant effect on farmer income (Sig. F = 0.000). Partially, the variables of total production, planting area, farming experience, and education level had a positive and significant effect on farmer income (p < 0.05). However, a multicollinearity problem was detected between the total production and planting area variables, which needs attention in the interpretation of their individual coefficients. The variables of age and number of family dependents did not have a significant effect on farmer income (p > 0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, lowland rice farming in Selubuk Village is profitable, and income improvement can be focused on production factors, experience, and increasing farmer education capacity, considering the close relationship between production and land area.

Abstract

Abstract

Basic education is an important foundation in the formation of language skills, one of which is writing skills. However, observations at SDN 3 Maria showed that many second-grade students still had difficulty writing, characterized by inconsistent letter shapes, less neat writing, and difficulty writing cursive letters. This condition is exacerbated by monotonous writing learning methods, so a more innovative approach is needed. This study aims to test the effect of the tracing the dots technique on students' writing skills in the Indonesian language subject for second-grade students at SDN 3 Maria. A quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design was used, with a sample of 20 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through writing tests (pretest and posttest) and classroom observations, then analyzed descriptively and using paired t-tests. The results showed a significant increase in students' writing skills after the application of the tracing the dots technique. The average writing score increased from 6.5 in the pretest to 10.5 in the posttest, especially in terms of correct letter formation, neatness of writing, and consistency of spacing between letters and words. In addition, the application of this technique also increased students' motivation and confidence in writing. Theoretically, these findings enrich insights into writing learning strategies at the elementary school level. Practically, the results of this study are useful for teachers and schools in choosing effective and enjoyable writing learning methods for students.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential for students to navigate future challenges and comprehend complex issues. However, many students have not been trained to think critically in the context of science, particularly because the learning process still emphasises theoretical learning over active exploration. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of using mini solar panel teaching aids in conjunction with a guided inquiry model in improving the critical thinking skills of grade VIII junior high school students. This study was a Pre-Experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest Design. The study population consisted of all grade VIII junior high school students, with a sample of class VIII B comprising 31 students. The results showed that mini solar panel teaching aids, combined with a guided inquiry model, were effective in improving students' critical thinking skills, with an average increase in the N-Gain score of 0.63 in the moderate category. Second, there was a significant difference in the average score of students' critical thinking skills before and after the implementation of the teaching aids, with an average pretest score of 5.56 and a post-test score of 11.16. Third, the implementation of mini solar panel teaching aids using a guided inquiry approach had a significant impact on the development of students' critical thinking skills. This study demonstrates that the use of mini solar panel teaching aids in conjunction with a guided inquiry model can be an effective learning method for enhancing students' critical thinking skills in science learning.

Abstract

This study presents a classification model for detecting diseases in patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth) leaves using image processing techniques. The method combines Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) for texture feature extraction and Support Vector Machine (SVM) for classification, optimised using the Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) algorithm. A total of 2,080 leaf images were collected and categorized into four classes: healthy, leaf spot, yellowing, and mosaic. Each image was augmented and converted to grayscale to enhance the dataset and reduce computational complexity. Four GLCM features—contrast, correlation, energy, and homogeneity—were extracted to represent leaf textures. The classification model achieved an accuracy of 89.74% using SVM alone, and improved to 97.12% when optimized with PSO. The results indicate that the integration of GLCM, SVM, and PSO provides an effective and accurate solution for early detection of patchouli leaf diseases, potentially supporting farmers in decision-making and improving crop productivity and quality.
