Abstract

Abstract

The dynamics of transaction costs faced by Simba fish farmers in their efforts to improve household welfare are examined from an Islamic economic perspective. Transaction costs arising in production and distribution activities, such as information search costs, negotiation costs, implementation costs, licensing costs, transportation costs, and maintenance costs, often hinder farmers from obtaining optimal income.  This condition has implications for the welfare of fish pond farming households, particularly in Padang Cermin Subdistrict, Pesawaran Regency, where most of the community depends on the fish pond farming sector for their livelihood. This study aims to analyse the forms and dynamics of transaction costs faced by simba fish pond farmers, assess their impact on household welfare, and review these practices based on Islamic economic principles. The research method used is a qualitative approach with field research.  In this study, the primary data in Padang Cermin Subdistrict, Pesawaran Regency, consisted of 10 fish farmers. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of simba fish farmers, collectors, and related parties. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and qualitatively using an Islamic economic approach. The research method used was a qualitative approach with field research. In this study, the primary data was collected from 10 fish farmers in Padang Cermin Subdistrict, Pesawaran Regency. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of Simba fish farmers, collectors, and related parties. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative analysis with an Islamic economic approach. The results showed that high transaction costs, mainly due to dependence on middlemen, price information asymmetry, and the weak bargaining position of farmers, had a negative impact on the welfare of fish farmers' households. From an Islamic economic perspective, unfair transaction costs that tend to harm farmers are contrary to the principles of justice (al-‘adl), benefit (maslahah), and prohibition of exploitation (zulm). Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen farmer institutions, market transparency, and the application of Islamic economic values.

Abstract

Agrarian conflicts and human-wildlife interactions in forest buffer villages have become critical issues affecting community welfare, yet they are often examined separately and rarely integrated within an Islamic economics perspective. This study aims to analyze the relationship between land ownership conflicts and wildlife threats and their implications for the socio-economic resilience of communities in Suoh District, West Lampung Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed thematically through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that uncertainty in land ownership status due to the disharmony between customary and formal legal recognition limits community access to economic resources, while wildlife disturbances reduce agricultural productivity and increase social risks. The novelty of this study lies in integrating agrarian conflict and human–wildlife conflict within a phenomenological framework based on Islamic economic values. The findings also reveal adaptive strategies developed by communities through social solidarity, collective resource management, and local deliberation to strengthen socio-economic resilience.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of social capital in supporting the economic sustainability and welfare of coffee farmers' households in Bukit Kemuning District, North Lampung Regency, especially in the midst of the challenges of coffee price fluctuations, high production costs, and limited access to economic institutions. This study aims to find out the dynamics of the social capital of coffee farmers, strategies for increasing social capital and household welfare, as well as Islamic economic views in optimizing the social capital of coffee farmers. This study uses a qualitative research method with a fenomenologis approach through observation, interview, and documentation techniques of 11 coffee farmer informants. The results of the study show that the social capital of coffee farmers is still relatively strong, especially in the aspects of trust, social networks, norms and social values such as mutual cooperation, mutual help, and cooperation between farmers. This social capital helps to strengthen social solidarity and support agricultural activities, although it has not fully improved economic well-being due to low coffee prices, high fertilizer prices, and weak formal economic institutions. The strategy of increasing social capital can be carried out through strengthening farmer groups, increasing cooperation between farmers, expanding market access, and government support. From an Islamic economic perspective, the values of ta'awun, ukhuwah, and amanah are important foundations in building social capital that is able to support the welfare of farmers' households in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the condition of rice farmers in South Sungkai District, North Lampung Regency, who are still facing limited financial capital in meeting household needs, so they need an alternative to social-based economic support. Social capital, which includes trust, social networks, norms, and the value of togetherness, is a non-material asset that plays an important role in the lives of farmers. This study aims to analyze the form and contribution of social capital to rice farmers in meeting household needs and review its suitability with Islamic economic perspectives. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, through observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that social capital makes a real contribution to meeting the needs of farmers' households, especially in the aspects of food, education, and health, through the practice of mutual cooperation, cooperation with farmer groups, and social relations based on trust and mutual help. Viewed from the perspective of Islamic economics, the practice of social capital is in line with the principles of ta'awun (help), justice, and ukhuwah (brotherhood). In conclusion, social capital not only functions as a strengthening of the economy of farmers' households, but also as a means of strengthening social solidarity and realizing sustainable prosperity in accordance with Islamic economic values.

Abstract

The trade-off between achieving economic welfare and maintaining ecological stability remains a critical challenge for developing nations like Indonesia. This study examines the dynamic effects of economic growth, fossil fuel consumption, and urbanization on the Environmental Quality Index (EQI) in Indonesia during the period 2007-2024. Using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), the analysis reveals a significant long-term cointegration relationship among the variables. Empirical results show that economic growth has a significant negative impact on environmental quality, confirming the initial stage of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis, in which economic activity is still highly dependent on sectors that degrade the environment. Conversely, urbanization exhibits a positive impact on environmental quality, indicating that urban areas possess more effective environmental governance and resource efficiency compared to rural regions. Although the long-term coefficient of fossil energy consumption is relatively small, Variance Decomposition analysis identifies energy consumption shocks as a persistent determinant of fluctuations in environmental quality. Consequently, this study recommends accelerating the energy transition and strengthening environmental regulations specifically within economic growth centers.
