Abstract

This study examines the process of affixation, specifically prefixes, in articles published by Mojok.Id in the September 2024 edition. Morphology, as a branch of linguistic science that studies the structure and form of words, serves as the primary focus of this analysis. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method, the research collects data from article titles to identify and analyze the use of prefixes within the context of modern Indonesian language. The results reveal the presence of 41 instances of prefixes that function to enrich the meaning of root words, creating variation in the delivery of ideas and messages. These findings are expected to provide new insights into the application of morphology in online media and contribute to the understanding of the evolution of language and contemporary culture in Indonesia. This research also addresses existing gaps in the literature by highlighting the distinctive and creative writing style of Mojok.Id.

Abstract

The development of social media in Indonesia has created a digital public space that enables people to express aspirations, criticism, and protest. One prominent phenomenon is hashtag activism, such as #BubarkanDPR. This study aimed to analyze the representation of power and public resistance in the digital discourse of #BubarkanDPR. The research combined qualitative and quantitative methods, employing descriptive and interpretative approaches to understand language patterns, symbolism, and public resistance strategies, as well as frequency analysis of words, hashtags, and lexicons to identify dominant patterns and the intensity of public expression. The data consisted of 1,237 posts on the X platform using the hashtag #BubarkanDPR from August 20 to September 1, 2025, collected through crawling using Python and tweet-harvest Node.js, and then manually cleaned. The analysis was conducted using Norman Fairclough’s AWK model of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), covering text analysis, discourse practice, and socio-cultural practice, with the assistance of AntConc 4.3.1 to map wordlists, word frequencies, collocations, and KWIC. The findings revealed that the DPR was represented as a symbol of corruption, betrayal, and democratic failure, while the public expressed resistance through delegitimization, collective calls, and emotional and vulgar language. These results underscore an ideological shift toward anti-establishment sentiments and highlight the role of digital democracy as a battleground for power.

Abstract

The present research aims to analyze the use of personification in poems generated by ChatGPT. A qualitative descriptive method is employed to examine the use of personification in the poems produced by this language model. The data used in the study consists of poems generated by the ChatGPT platform. Data collection techniques include observation and note-taking by providing the prompt “create a poem!” to ChatGPT. The data analysis is conducted in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. In the data reduction stage, parts of the poems containing personification are identified, focusing on the attribution of human characteristics to inanimate objects or abstract concepts. In the data presentation stage, the poems containing personification are described and explained, accompanied by concrete examples and contextual explanations of their usage. In the final stage, conclusions are drawn based on the analysis. The results of the study show that out of the ten poems analyzed, 28 cases of abstract personification and 33 cases of concrete personification were found. The poem titled Whispering Love stands out for its use of abstract personification, while the poem Harmony of Nature predominantly uses concrete personification. Personification in ChatGPT-generated poems enhances both aesthetic and emotional quality and helps make abstract concepts more comprehensible to readers.

Abstract

This study aims to identify research trends, research gaps, and implications for literature learning development related to character values in Minangkabau culture-based literature. The review is needed due to the fragmented nature of existing studies, which tend to address Minangkabau literature, character values, and instructional practices separately, without a comprehensive synthesis to inform integrated learning design. This study fills this gap by systematically consolidating and critically mapping how character values in Minangkabau literature have been studied and applied in educational contexts. The study uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with articles retrieved from Google Scholar (2015–2025). The selection process followed PRISMA guidelines (identification, screening, eligibility, inclusion), resulting in 16 selected studies. Data were analyzed descriptively by categorizing research focus, methods, objects, and findings. Findings show five main themes: oral literature and folklore, learning media and instructional models, modern literature, proverbs, and psychological and comparative approaches. Minangkabau literature consistently contains strong character values relevant to daily social life. However, gaps remain, particularly in integrating character values, literary forms, and cultural contexts, as well as limited use of technology-enhanced learning. In conclusion, beyond mapping trends, this review contributes a synthesized framework linking Minangkabau literary content, character education principles, and pedagogical design. It provides an evidence-based foundation for developing integrated, culturally responsive literature learning models and advances character education scholarship by clarifying how local wisdom can be operationalized into structured, technology-supported learning designs.

Abstract

This study conducts a critical examination of masculine language features used by female leaders in the public sphere in Indonesia. Based on Coates' (2015) theory of masculinity, this research aims to analyze three main features of masculine language: swearing and taboo language, commands and directives, and questions. The method employed is a qualitative approach based on narrative and content analysis, with secondary data derived from speeches found on relevant YouTube channels. The use of swearing and taboo language serves to assert their dominance in certain situations, while the use of commands and directives demonstrates control and authority. Additionally, rhetorical questions, often associated with masculinity, are used to challenge rigid gender norms. This study shows that masculine language features are not exclusive to men but can also be utilized by women. This research opens new space for discussions about dynamic linguistic identities in social life, particularly in the context of female leadership.

Abstract

The present research aims to analyse the translation techniques, methods, and underlying ideologies used in translating the Minangkabau song Taragak Pulang into English. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach grounded in translation theory. The data consists of the lyrics of Taragak Pulang in Minangkabau and their English translation. Data collection was conducted through direct observation and note-taking, focusing on key aspects of the song and its translation. Data analysis follows an interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results show that the translation of this song employs various translation techniques, including established equivalence, adaptation, modulation, reduction, generalisation, amplification, particularisation, and transposition. The established equivalence technique is the most dominantly applied technique to ensure clarity of the song’s lyrics in the target language. In this case, the translation method is oriented toward the target language, utilising eight translation techniques. From the perspective of translation ideology, the analysis suggests that the translation of this song tends toward domestication, which involves adapting the source text to make it more suitable within the cultural and linguistic context of the target language.
