Abstract

This research aims to explore the character education values of local culture “leles” in the context of digital education in East Manggarai. Given the challenges of globalization and rapid digitalization, it is important to assess how these traditional values can be maintained and integrated in the modern education system. The research used a descriptive qualitative method with a triangulation approach, involving observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation from participants consisting of teachers, students, and the local community. The results showed that “leles” cultural values, such as trust, social care, tolerance and responsibility, can be applied in digital education, enriching students' learning experience and strengthening their cultural identity. However, there are challenges in integrating these values into digital platforms, such as the technology gap, teachers' limited understanding in using technology, and conflicts between traditional values and digitalization. Therefore, this study suggests the need for teacher training, improved technological infrastructure and collaboration between the government, academics and communities to create digital education that respects local cultural values. The practical implications of this study suggest that digital education that integrates local values can help students develop a strong social character, deepen their understanding of culture and prepare them for a more competitive and dignified future life.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the ways in which thematic learning influences students so that they understand science concepts in fourth grade. It is the low level of students’ conceptual understanding within science that drives at this research, and rote memorization still dominates in fact. A quasi-experimental method uses a quantitative approach within the study. The research design is a pretest-posttest control group design. The experimental group did receive thematic learning treatment at that time. The control group did receive conventional instruction instead of something else. In the study were thirty fourth-grade students divided equally into two groups. The researchers mainly used a test for science concept understanding. That test collected data. For analyzing data, t-tests were involved, along with normality tests and homogeneity tests. Thematic learning students showed a key improvement versus the control group's scores after the tests. Thematic learning connects academic content to students’ real-life experiences. It shows better understanding about science, especially ideas on energy change. Responses from students regarding the thematic learning model were positive. It suggests improved academic outcomes along with a more meaningful and enjoyable classroom environment. Therefore, thematic learning is an effective approach indeed. Elementary science education can get better.
