Abstract

Abstract In recent centuries, there has been an increase in life expectancy, whereas, in developed countries, the average life span is longer than in previous generations. This longer lifespan has also led to a rise in cases of chronic neurological diseases, such as Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer's disease. Its prevalence is 0.5 to 1 % after age 65 and 1 to 3 % after age 80; the disease is rare in individuals younger than 50. A decrease in dopamine levels in Parkinson's Disease produces symptoms such as bradykinesia, stiffness, tremor at rest, and postural imbalance, which become noticeable when 70-80% of dopamine-producing neurons are lost. Intracellular dopamine metabolism is susceptible to free radical production, exposing dopaminergic cells to a greater risk of oxidative stress toxicity. Urate, or uric acid, as a purine metabolite, is a powerful natural antioxidant that plays an essential role in eliminating free radicals. The study was conducted on 21 patients with Parkinson's at Bangkinang Hospital in 2023. Data collection is done by conducting a physical examination to determine the severity of Parkinson's disease and then analyzing uric acid levels. From the results of Spearman’s analysis, a p-value of 0.872 was obtained, which showed no relationship between uric acid levels and the severity of Parkinson's disease. Keywords: Parkinson's disease, uric acid, disease severity Abstrak Dalam beberapa abad terakhir, telah terjadi peningkatan harapan hidup, sedangkan, di negara maju, rentang hidup rata-rata lebih lama daripada generasi sebelumnya. Umur yang lebih panjang ini juga menyebabkan peningkatan kasus penyakit neurologis kronis, seperti penyakit Parkinson. Penyakit Parkinson adalah gangguan neurodegeneratif paling umum kedua setelah penyakit Alzheimer. Prevalensinya adalah 0,5 hingga 1% setelah usia 65 dan 1 hingga 3% setelah usia 80; Penyakit ini jarang terjadi pada individu yang lebih muda dari 50 tahun. Penurunan kadar dopamin pada penyakit Parkinson menghasilkan gejala seperti bradikinesia, kekakuan, tremor saat istirahat, dan ketidakseimbangan postural, yang menjadi nyata ketika 70-80% neuron penghasil dopamin hilang. Metabolisme dopamin intraseluler rentan terhadap produksi radikal bebas, mengekspos sel-sel dopaminergik untuk risiko yang lebih besar toksisitas stres oksidatif. Urat, atau asam urat, sebagai metabolit purin, adalah antioksidan alami yang kuat yang memainkan peran penting dalam menghilangkan radikal bebas. Penelitian dilakukan pada 21 pasien Parkinson di Rumah Sakit Bangkinang pada tahun 2023. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan melakukan pemeriksaan fisik untuk mengetahui tingkat keparahan penyakit Parkinson kemudian menganalisis kadar asam urat. Dari hasil analisis Spearman, diperoleh p-value sebesar 0,872 yang menunjukkan tidak ada hubungan antara kadar asam urat dengan tingkat keparahan penyakit Parkinson. Abstract

Infantile spasms are an age-appropriate epilepsy syndrome characterized by flexion, extension, and combined flexion-extension spasms that often occur simultaneously. This study may aim to identify the characteristics of infantile spasms in terms of clinical symptoms, electroencephalogram (EEG) findings, and other diagnostic tests. The development of more accurate diagnostic methods can assist in early recognition and further treatment. The results of the MRI examination showed: signs of mild cerebral atrophy were accompanied by mild myelination disorders with pathological hyper-intensity in the periventricular subcortical white matter in the pre-central / posterior frontal lobe area bilaterally, other than that other supratentorial cerebral structures did not show further abnormalities, especially in the absence of SOL, congenital anomaly, hemorrhage, cerebral dystrophy/sclerosis / malacia or other pathological intensity both supra and infra-tentorial, including in the temporal lobe and hippocampus bilaterally.

Abstract

Diabetes merupakan penyakit yang jumlah penderitanya mengalami peningkatan di Indonesia. Menurut data IDF, Indonesia menempati peringkat ke-5 dengan penderita DM terbanyak di dunia. Berdasarkan profil kesehatan riau, pada tahun 2020 terdapat 90.796 orang menderita DM. Dinas Kesehatan Kota Pekanbaru juga melaporkan bahwa DM termasuk dalam tiga penyakit yang banyak di derita di kota Pekanbaru. Penggunaan obat baru dari herbal salah satunya adalah tanaman sirsak (Annona Muricata L). Daun tanaman ini memiliki beragam kandungan aktif diantaranya adalah flavonoid dan tanin. Flavonoid didalam daun sirsak dapat menghambat kerja enzim α-glukosidase sehingga menurunkan kemampuan reabsorpsi glukosa kedalam darah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pemberian kombinasi ekstrak etanol daun sirsak (Annona muricata L) dan glibenklamid dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa mencit putih jantan (mus muscullus) yang diinduksi aloksan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental denga rancangan pretest posttest with control group. Hasil dari penelitian ini didapatkan perbedaan bermakna rata-rata kadar glukosa mencit yang diinduksi aloksan terhadap kelompok yang diberikan kombinasi ekstrak etanol daun sirsak dan glibenklamid, penurunan kadar glukosa dari 227mg/dL menjadi 116,50mg/dL setelah diberikan perlakuan (p-value <0,05). Terdapat pengaruh kombinasi ekstrak daun sirsak (Annona muricata L) dan glibenklamid terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa mencit jantan (mus musculus).

Abstract

Chronic pain represents a major global health burden and often remains resistant to conventional pharmacological treatment, prompting the exploration of alternative therapeutic strategies. Electroencephalographic (EEG) neurofeedback has emerged as a non-invasive neuromodulatory intervention that enables patients to self-regulate brain activity and potentially alleviate persistent pain symptoms. This systematic review addresses the research problem of inconsistent evidence regarding the clinical efficacy and underlying mechanisms of EEG-based neurofeedback for chronic pain management in adults. A comprehensive analysis of 80 studies involving adults with chronic pain lasting at least three months was conducted, examining neurofeedback protocols, clinical pain outcomes, neurophysiological changes, secondary benefits, and methodological quality. Findings revealed heterogeneous results, with several studies reporting statistically significant and clinically meaningful pain reduction, particularly in conditions such as chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, fibromyalgia, and chronic back pain. Observed neurophysiological changes, including increased alpha power and modified connectivity in pain-related brain regions, were sometimes associated with clinical improvement, alongside reported benefits in sleep quality, mood, and overall well-being. However, evidence from sham-controlled randomized trials showed no significant differences between intervention and control groups, highlighting methodological limitations and challenges in blinding procedures. The review concludes that EEG neurofeedback is a safe and feasible intervention with potential therapeutic value for chronic pain, although current evidence remains inconsistent. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative evaluation of clinical outcomes, neurophysiological mechanisms, and protocol-specific effects, while emphasizing the need for personalized approaches, biomarker identification, and rigorous experimental designs to clarify efficacy and optimize treatment implementation.
