Abstract

Skin and soft tissue infections caused by S. aureus and S. pyogenes remain a significant public health concern, particularly in tropical regions. Pineapple peel (Ananas comosus [L.] Merr.), an abundant agricultural by-product, contains several bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and bromelain, which are known for their antibacterial properties. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of pineapple peel against S. aureus and S. pyogenes. This in vitro experimental study employed a post-test-only control group design. The extract was prepared by maceration using 96% ethanol and diluted with DMSO to obtain final concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%. Antibacterial activity was assessed using the well diffusion method on Mueller-Hinton Agar, with 70% ethanol as the positive control and DMSO as the negative control. Inhibition zones were measured after 24 hours of incubation at 37°C. The ethanol extract exhibited inhibitory effects against S. aureus with mean inhibition zone diameters of 4.72±0.88mm (5%), 5.53±0.75mm (10%), and 8.31±1.11mm (15%), and against S. pyogenes with 4.34±0.53mm (5%), 6.20±0.73mm (10%), and 9.29±0.36mm (15%). Statistical analysis using the Kruskal–Wallis test showed significant differences among treatment groups (p < 0.05), confirming that the antibacterial effect was concentration-dependent. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of pineapple peel demonstrated significant antibacterial activity against S. aureus and S. pyogenes, with increasing efficacy at higher concentrations, suggesting its potential as a natural antibacterial agent for future therapeutic or topical applications.

Abstract

Sistem renin-angiotensin-aldosteron merupakan faktor utama dalam memelihara tekanan darah arteri. Salah satu sasaran komponennya adalah angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), yang merupakan zink terglikolisasi dipeptidil-karboksipeptidase yang fungsi utamanya adalah mengatur tekanan darah arteri dan keseimbangan elektrolit melalui sistem renin-angiotensin-aldosteron ini. Sejumlah ekstrak dan senyawa yang berasal dari tanaman telah terbukti secara in vitro sebagai ACE inhibitor. Efek yang menguntungkan ini secara umum dianggap berasal dari adanya molekul flavonoid, yang turunan senyawa kimia kompleksnya dapat mencapai ke dalam pusat aktif ACE. Flavonoid adalah kelompok senyawa alam dengan variabel struktur fenolik dan dapat ditemukan pada tumbuhan. Pada saat ini terdapat peningkatan minat pada potensi teraputik tanaman obat yang kemungkinan berkaitan dengan gugus phenolnya, khususnya flavonoid. Flavonoid telah dikonsumsi oleh manusia sejak lama. Flavonoid memiliki kemampuan biologi yang luas dalam menjaga kesehatan manusia dan membantu mengurangi resiko berbagai penyakit. Khususnya untuk efek anti hipertensi dari senyawa flovanol telah diteliti secara luas. Senyawa ini menghasilkan kemampuan untuk mengurangi stres oksidatif, menghambat aktifitas angiotensin converting enzim, meningkatkan relaksasi endotel pembuluh darah, mengatur signaling sel dan ekspresi gen. Kemampuan untuk menggunakan flavonoid sebagai ACE inhibitor dalam mengatur tekanan darah telah diteliti sejak beberapa dekade yang lalu dan hampir semua telah terbukti efektif dalam menekan kerja ACE.

Abstract

Hypertension is a health problem which one of the main concerns even in worldwide since this disease is a significant risk factor that leads to cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, heart failure, stroke, and kidney disease. Hypertension is divided into two types based on the cause, primary hypertension and secondary hypertension. Some treatments that help lower blood pressure are by using drugs (pharmacotherapy) or by way of lifestyle modifications. Soybean (Glycine Max) is a type of functional food that contains nutrients such as isoflavones, saponins, lecithin and phytosterols which reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. This study aims to analyze the effect of giving soy milk on blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This research method used a pretest-posttest design with a control group design. The sample in this study used a purposive sampling technique, the maximum size of the subjects in the study was 30 people. The results of the study in the intervention group showed that there was an effect of giving soy milk on blood pressure in hypertensive patients before and after with systolic blood pressure p=0.000 (p<0.05) and diastolic blood pressure p=0.002 (p<0.05).

Abstract

Diabetes merupakan penyakit yang jumlah penderitanya mengalami peningkatan di Indonesia. Menurut data IDF, Indonesia menempati peringkat ke-5 dengan penderita DM terbanyak di dunia. Berdasarkan profil kesehatan riau, pada tahun 2020 terdapat 90.796 orang menderita DM. Dinas Kesehatan Kota Pekanbaru juga melaporkan bahwa DM termasuk dalam tiga penyakit yang banyak di derita di kota Pekanbaru. Penggunaan obat baru dari herbal salah satunya adalah tanaman sirsak (Annona Muricata L). Daun tanaman ini memiliki beragam kandungan aktif diantaranya adalah flavonoid dan tanin. Flavonoid didalam daun sirsak dapat menghambat kerja enzim α-glukosidase sehingga menurunkan kemampuan reabsorpsi glukosa kedalam darah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pemberian kombinasi ekstrak etanol daun sirsak (Annona muricata L) dan glibenklamid dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa mencit putih jantan (mus muscullus) yang diinduksi aloksan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental denga rancangan pretest posttest with control group. Hasil dari penelitian ini didapatkan perbedaan bermakna rata-rata kadar glukosa mencit yang diinduksi aloksan terhadap kelompok yang diberikan kombinasi ekstrak etanol daun sirsak dan glibenklamid, penurunan kadar glukosa dari 227mg/dL menjadi 116,50mg/dL setelah diberikan perlakuan (p-value <0,05). Terdapat pengaruh kombinasi ekstrak daun sirsak (Annona muricata L) dan glibenklamid terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa mencit jantan (mus musculus).

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by increased blood glucose levels, which over time can cause damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. Some plants that are known to lower blood glucose levels are pineapple, which contains flavonoids in the pineapple tuber. Flavonoid compounds are known to have strong antioxidant activity. By giving pineapple tuber juice, it is hoped that it can reduce blood glucose levels, one of which is by regenerating damaged pancreatic beta cells and stimulating pancreatic beta cells to produce insulin. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of giving pineapple tuber (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr) juice on the glucose levels of male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by alloxan. This research method is experimental research that uses a "pretest - posttest with control group design". The samples used were 20 male Wistar rats. The mice were divided into 5 treatment groups consisting of a normal group, a negative control group which was induced by alloxan, a positive group which was given metformin, and a group which was given 100% and 50% concentrations of pineapple tuber juice. The results of this study through One Way ANOVA analysis showed that giving pineapple tuber juice with concentrations of 100% and 50% had a significant blood glucose reduction effect of p<0.05 in the negative control group. There was no significant difference p>0.05 between 100% and 50% concentrations of the positive control given metformin. The greatest decrease in blood sugar occurred at a concentration of 100%. The conclusion of this research is that pineapple tuber juice (Ananas comosus L. Merr) can reduce blood glucose levels in rats induced by alloxan with the largest reduction at a concentration of 100%.
