Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a disease or metabolic disorder characterized by high levels of sugar in the blood. Diabetes can cause heart attacks, strokes, and severe foot infections or ulcers. Non-pharmacological treatment can be done using aloe vera which contains growth hormone which plays a role in the healing process of diabetic wounds. Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of providing treatment to diabetes melitus sufferers using aloe vera on the growth of wound tissue. Method: Qualitative descriptive research with a case study approach to nursing care, which includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. The subjects of this research were two people suffering from diabetes melitus who had diabetic wounds. The wound care intervention was carried out 7 times over 14 days with meetings lasting >30-50 minutes. Data were collected by observing diabetes melitus wounds before and after administering aloe vera. Results: Before being given aloe vera intervention on the first day subject 1 with a score of 45, subject 2 with a score of 46 measured by Bates Jensen, the wound was still approaching wound degeneration, but after being given 7 treatments for 14 days the wound on subject 1 had a score of 18, subject 2 with a score of 19, which means the wound experienced fairly good wound regeneration. Conclusion: Administration of aloe vera has been proven to be effective in healing and growing wound tissue in diabetes melitus patients. Suggestion: Wound treatment with aloe vera can be used as an alternative for wound care at home and combined with proper diet management in an effort to control blood sugar   Keywords : Aloe Vera; Diabetes Melitus; Wound Healing.
