Abstract

This study explores teaching strategies employed by English for Specific Purposes (ESP) teachers at a private university in Lampung, focusing on two faculties: Medical and Economics. Using a qualitative research design, six English teachers were interviewed to examine their practices in delivering ESP instruction. The study aimed to understand how teaching strategies are tailored to address the differing academic backgrounds and English proficiency levels of medical and economics students. Data were analyzed using the framework outlined by Miles et al. (2018), focusing on themes such as teaching materials, subject matter, classroom activities, and the use of students’ native language. Findings reveal that medical English instruction often integrates specialized content, such as medical terminology, authentic texts, and professional communication tasks, with teachers systematically introducing technical vocabulary and employing task-based learning. Conversely, economics instruction emphasizes real-world scenarios through case studies, simulations, and group discussions, but teachers face challenges in adapting resources due to the lack of standardized materials. Both groups of students displayed distinct learning characteristics, requiring teachers to adopt flexible approaches, such as code-switching to ensure comprehension and incorporating digital tools like Quizizz and Kahoot to enhance engagement. The study highlights the critical role of contextualized and adaptable teaching strategies in ESP, emphasizing the need for specialized materials, professional development for teachers, and greater collaboration between language educators and subject-matter experts. These findings provide valuable insights for improving ESP instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners in higher education.

Abstract

Penyusunan laporan keuangan yang baik merupakan kunci berkembangnya bisnis. Laporan keuangan yang disusun tidak baik akan merusak usaha tersebut dalam jangka panjang. Ibu - ibu PKK di Tanggamus yang memiliki bisnis skala kecil sangat membutuhkan pelatihan laporan keuangan agar mereka mengetahui pengeluaran - pengeluaran yang mereka miliki dengan menggunakan laba bisnis dengan harapan agar mereka bisa lebih disiplin menggunakan laba kotor usaha mereka di masa depan, dan tidak dikeluarkan sebagian besar untuk kepentingan pribadi. Kami memberikan pelatihan penggunaan WPS Office sebagai alternatif Microsoft Office dengan fitur dan cara penggunaan yang sama. Hasil dari pelatihan ini adalah begitu antusiasnya peserta pelatihan untuk belajar menggunakan WPS Office khusunya sebagai aplikasi penyusun laporan keuangan usaha mereka.

Abstract

Penyusunan laporan keuangan yang baik merupakan kunci berkembangnya bisnis. Laporan keuangan yang disusun tidak baik akan merusak usaha tersebut dalam jangka panjang. Ibu - ibu Pemberdayaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga di Tanggamus yang memiliki bisnis skala kecil sangat membutuhkan pelatihan laporan keuangan agar mereka mengetahui pengeluaran - pengeluaran yang mereka miliki dengan menggunakan laba bisnis dengan harapan agar mereka bisa lebih disiplin menggunakan laba kotor usaha mereka di masa depan, dan tidak dikeluarkan sebagian besar untuk kepentingan pribadi. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah membantu para ibu - ibu yang tergabung dalam Pemberdayaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga untuk lebih melek teknologi terhadap penggunaan aplikasi alternatif Microsoft Excel, yaitu LibreOffice Calc. Kami memberikan pelatihan penggunaan LibreOffice sebagai alternatif Microsoft Office dengan fitur dan cara penggunaan yang sama. Hasil dari pelatihan ini adalah begitu antusiasnya peserta pelatihan untuk belajar menggunakan LibreOffice Calc khusunya sebagai aplikasi penyusun laporan keuangan usaha para Ibu - Ibu yang tergabung dalam kelompok Pemberdayaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga. Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve digital financial literacy and education on the dangers of online gambling for students of SMK Palapa Bandar Lampung. The selection of this school was based on the results of an initial survey that showed low student understanding of digital financial applications and high exposure to digital entertainment platforms that have the potential to become gambling facilities. Through a Community-Based Research (CBR) approach, this activity uses the DANA application case study to introduce the benefits, risks, and legal education related to the use of fintech. The implementation method includes interactive material delivery, discussion, and application simulation. The results of the pre-test and post-test showed a significant increase in students' understanding, especially on the security aspects of digital transactions and the risk of covert online gambling. Reflective evaluation and feedback from the school reinforced the effectiveness of participatory methods in strengthening digital literacy. This activity is expected to become a model for sustainable education in a technology-based school environment.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has made it easier to access various forms of online entertainment, including online gambling, which is increasingly popular among the younger generation. This phenomenon raises serious concerns because of its broad impacts, including psychological, social, and economic aspects. Online gambling can cause addiction, mental health disorders, social dysfunction, and significant financial losses. Socialization regarding the negative impacts of online gambling is a strategic step in efforts to prevent and protect the younger generation from these dangers. This research and socialization program aims to increase public awareness, especially teenagers and parents, regarding the risks posed by online gambling. In addition, an educational and collaborative approach with various parties, such as educational institutions, government, and communities, is key to building the resilience of the younger generation against the negative influences of the digital world. By strengthening digital and mental literacy, it is hoped that the younger generation will be able to make wise decisions in using technology.

Abstract

This study examined grammatical errors in recount texts written by 20 Management students at Malahayati University. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the analysis focused on vocabulary, mechanics, organization, grammar, and content. The results showed that while some students demonstrated good writing ability, many struggled, particularly with grammar and mechanics. Weaknesses were evident in verb tense usage, subject–verb agreement, and sentence structure, as well as in punctuation and capitalization. Differences in vocabulary and organization scores indicated varying levels of skill in word choice and text structuring. The findings highlight the need for targeted instructional strategies, especially grammar-focused lessons, explicit training in mechanics, and individualized support for vocabulary building and organizational skills. Identifying recurring error patterns allows for more effective teaching interventions aimed at improving students’ proficiency in recount writing.
