Abstract

Purpose-Contextual learning approaches play an important role in supporting the needs of 21st-century Education. Socioscientific issues (SSI) orientation is one form of contextual approach that is relevant to physics learning. This study aims to see research trends on socioscientific issues in the period 2014 to 2023. The main focus of this study is to understand the role of SSI in supporting the development of 21st-century skills.Methodology-This type of research includes literature using bibliometric analysis methods. The data analysis process used VOSviewer software to obtain a network visualization that states the relationship between keywords.Findings-The synthesis results refer to the distribution of articles per year, research themes, countries of affiliation, and authors. One hundred articles were successfully identified through the Scopus database, showing that research on socioscientific issues fluctuates yearly. Based on bibliometric analysis, the keyword "socioscientific issues" is closely related to students' scientific literacy attitudes and abilities. This relationship highlights the importance of socioscientific issues in learning, especially in helping students understand scientific issues relevant to everyday life.Significance-Research also shows that integrating sociocultural issues in learning plays an important role in supporting the development of 21st-century skills. Therefore, the relevance of Socioscientific Issues can be applied by teachers in physics learning. Keywords: Bibliometric; physics; science; socio-scientific issues

Abstract

Purpose – As critical thinking is a key competency in science education, this study employs a meta-analysis to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing students' critical thinking skills. This study analyzed 21 articles published between 2017 and 2024. These articles specifically discuss the effectiveness of PBL implementation in enhancing students' critical thinking skills.Methodology – The selection criteria included peer-reviewed articles published between 2017 and 2024, which provided explicit numerical data (sample size, mean, standard deviation) and a direct focus on the impact of PBL on critical thinking skills. A random-effects model was chosen due to expected variability among studies, and the effect size was calculated using Hedges' g to ensure robust findings. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 29 to calculate the summary effect, analyze heterogeneity, construct a forest plot, and identify potential publication bias.Findings – The meta-analysis revealed a significant improvement in critical thinking skills for students who experienced PBL-based learning compared to conventional methods (summary effect = 0.57, 95% CI = 0.15-1.0, p = 0.01). This shows that 57% of learning with PBL models analyzed has a significant positive effect on students' critical thinking skills. The heterogeneity test indicated (I² value = 93,9% > 25%), suggesting moderate variability among the analyzed studies. Funnel plots and Egger's regression tests indicate no risk of publication bias.Contribution– These findings emphasize the importance of integrating PBL into science curricula to foster critical thinking skills. Educators should consider structured PBL frameworks, while policymakers could support teacher training initiatives to optimize implementation. Future studies may explore longitudinal effects and variations across different educational levels.

Abstract

Websites are now widely accessible across all disciplines. The aim of this study is to analyze the comparative trends in research on the 100 most cited website-based learning publications across all fields, to identify comparative visualizations of trend mapping in website-based learning publications in physics education research, and to determine the countries that have published the most website-based learning research from 2002 to 2023. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis using the keywords 'website-based learning' as a general field and 'website-based physics' to specifically investigate the implementation of websites in physics education. The metadata collected is sourced from the Scopus database and analyzed and visualized using VOSviewer and datawrapper. This research shows that the research trend in website-based learning across all fields is increasing annually. The main keywords used in website-based physics learning research are 'Websites', 'Learning systems', and 'Artificial intelligence' with a total link strength of 23, 16, and 14, respectively.       Keywords: website, bilbliometric, physics learning.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1165-1182

Abstract

To be able to create meaningful learning, educators need appropriate learning strategies. This will have a positive impact on students. Based on the results of observations of physics learning, global warming material at SMA N 1 Bantul requires the development of formative assessment media that can support classroom learning. This research aims to measure the feasibility and influence of using the word search inquiry model on conceptual understanding and self-efficacy in global warming material. The research method used is field research including the interview process, observation and documentation. Feasibility test data analysis was carried out using Likert scale analysis and influence data analysis using paired simple t-test data analysis techniques using SPSS. This research was conducted on class X students at SMA N 1 Bantul. The feasibility test data analysis obtained was 91.04% or very feasible. The test results showed a significant effect on the pre-test and post-test data. Based on the research that has been conducted, it can be concluded that using the word search inquiry model can increase students' conceptual understanding and self-efficacy.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology greatly affects the education system in Indonesia, especially in the use of Information Technology (IT) devices such as hardware and software in the teaching and learning process. This research focuses on developing interactive e-modules using the Flip PDF Professional application to improve students' quantum physics learning experience. This research problem addresses the difficulties faced by students in understanding quantum physics concepts, which leads to low academic achievement. This study aims to assess the feasibility and user satisfaction of the interactive e-module "History of Quantum Physics" developed with the help of the Flip PDF Professional application. The research method used is ADDIE (Analyse, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) which involves validation by material experts and trials on physics education students at two universities. The results showed that the feasibility of interactive e-modules of quantum physics history by media and material experts obtained results that were feasible to be tested without revision with a percentage of 81.8%. So that the e-module can be tested on undergraduate and postgraduate physics education students. User satisfaction test results show that e-modules can be used as a support for quantum physics learning media with a satisfaction percentage of 91.33% or very satisfied.
