Abstract

Ethnomathematics studies how mathematics interacts with culture, traditions, and customs of society. With ulos as its identity, this study will investigate one of the Indonesian tribes through its art, namely Ulos art by the Batak tribe of North Sumatra. The form of the Batak ulos variety can be associated with geometric mathematics, so that mathematics can be studied culturally in ethnomathematics studies by integrating the introduction and instillation of culture in the mathematical concepts taught. This research was collected from literature or libraries using a qualitative approach. This study aims to study the concept of geometry in the patterns of North Sumatran ulos cloth from an ethnomathematics perspective. Research shows that science and culture cannot be separated. Batak ulos is not just a traditional cloth; it is also a representation of the hierarchy of cultural values ​​maintained by the Batak people.

Abstract

The implementation of creative and innovative learning models based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in the digital era is a must in an effort to improve the quality of education that is relevant to the challenges of the times. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of creative and innovative learning models based on HOTS in the digital era and identify supporting and inhibiting factors in the process. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. Data collection was carried out using interview and observation guidelines. Data analysis was carried out in stages, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the creative and innovative learning mode approach based on HOTS is very important to improve students' critical and creative thinking skills, which are the main needs in facing the challenges of the 21st century.
