Abstract

This article discusses a comparative perspective of Ibn Taimiyah and Mahatma Gandhi regarding the ethics of poverty alleviation. Despite coming from different religious and cultural backgrounds, both figures offer profound insights into economic equality and social justice, as well as an ethical framework for addressing poverty. Ibn Taimiyah emphasizes the importance of wealth management based on Islamic principles, while Gandhi highlights simplicity, self-reliance, and the fair distribution of resources in line with the philosophy of ahimsa (non-violence). This article aims to formulate a practical approach to the ethics of poverty alleviation based on the thoughts of these two figures

Abstract

This paper examines the integration of Kuntowijoyo's Islamic epistemology in the development of sharia economics. Kuntowijoyo emphasizes the importance of integrating empirical knowledge and revelation, outlining an Islamic scientific paradigm based on Islam, Indonesian identity, and modernity. In the context of sharia economics, principles such as tauhid, sharia, and ethics are implemented to create justice and welfare. This research employs a qualitative approach with literature analysis to explore the concept of prophetic social sciences and its application to issues in sharia economics, including riba, gharar, and profit-sharing mechanisms like mudharabah and musyarakah. The findings indicate that Kuntowijoyo's epistemological integration can provide guidance for a more comprehensive and responsive development of sharia economics that addresses the needs of society

Abstract

Poverty is a deep-rooted social issue that demands serious attention in its resolution. Islam rejects poverty, considering it a calamity that must be fought, while social welfare is a shared responsibility, as outlined in Article 34 and Article 27 Paragraph 2 of the 1945 Constitution. Despite the government's efforts to alleviate poverty since independence, the results could have been more optimal. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, collecting data through interviews, observations, documentation, and literature analysis. It also examines Islamic poverty alleviation through a NU Care-LAZISNU Ponorogo case study, which manages zakat, infaq, and sedekah to assist people experiencing poverty. The findings of this study highlight the need to apply Islamic economic principles in social and economic policies to reduce inequality and improve social welfare in Indonesia.
