Abstract

This research aims to find the perspective and approach of both books to character education management. This research uses a qualitative approach and the type of study used is the literature review. The main source of data for this research is both this book itself, and previous research or literary study. The results of this research show that in the Book of Tadzkirah as-Sami’ wa al-Mutakkallim Fi Adab al-’Alim Wa al-Muta’alim, Imam Ibnu Jama'ah uses an approach that focuses on application in the environment and character education, in accordance with the custom of Salaf scholars. There are three chapters in this book concerning disciples: disciples against teachers, disciples in the congregation, and disciples themselves. On the other hand, the book of Kh. Hasyim Asy'ari, that is, the Book of Adabul Alim wal Muta’allim only deals with character education in one chapter, namely the attitude of pupils to teachers, and the implementation of character education that emphasizes more ethics and is adapted to the character of today’s Indonesian children. Important research, conclusions, and implications of research results.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of exemplary educators in Surah Al-Ahzab verse 21 through the interpretations of At-Thobari, Fakhrur Rozi, and Ibn ‘Ashur, focusing on the relevance of the Prophet Muhammad’s model (uswah hasanah) to modern education. Using a library research method and content analysis, the study finds that the three tafsir works offer complementary insights: At-Thobari stresses noble character and professional development, Fakhrur Rozi highlights justice and empathy, and Ibn ‘Ashur emphasizes leadership and moral formation. These findings affirm the Prophet’s example as a practical and holistic guide for value-based Islamic education, both theoretically and in practice.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of character values within the Kulliyatul Mu'allimin Al-Islamiyah (KMI) Islamic Boarding School Darussalam Gontor education system, based on the 11 principles of Effective Character Education as proposed by Thomas Lickona. Character education represents a critical aspect of contemporary educational systems, particularly in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) that integrate Islamic traditions with modern educational approaches. Employing a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological approach, this study explores the in-depth experiences of various stakeholders involved in character education implementation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and document analysis involving key informants such as kyai (Islamic clerics), ustaz (Islamic teachers), santri (students), and alumni of KMI Gontor. Findings indicate that the KMI Gontor education system effectively applies most of Lickona’s principles, particularly in fostering a caring community, cultivating students’ intrinsic motivation, and embedding ethical values within the academic curriculum. The study reveals that KMI Gontor’s holistic integration of Islamic values with modern character education principles successfully shapes students’ character across cognitive, affective, and behavioral domains. This research contributes to the advancement of a pesantren-based character education model that can be adapted by other educational institutions.

Abstract

The dichotomous view of science infiltrates all directions and is no exception in the science of education. As a result of this dichotomy, knowledge is produced by individuals with double moral standards, for example, a Muslim who is devout in worship but at other times also corrupts, oppresses, and commits despicable acts. Normatively, in Islam, there is no dichotomy of knowledge even though, in reality, science dichotomy still occurs in Islamic education. To dismiss or eliminate this dichotomy, it is essential to have interconnection integration in the scientific structure, including in the development of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) material in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI). This research is literature research with a descriptive approach. The development of PAI MI integration-Interconnection perspective material is classified into two, namely internal and external. Internally it is done by integrating or finding common ground between subjects in the PAI family. There are five subjects in the PAI family, namely; Qur'an, Aqeedah, Morals, Fiqh, and Date. The purpose of this internal interconnection integration is to help students get an integrated understanding of the five subjects. While externally, interconnection is carried out between material in the PAI family and article in science subjects. With these external interconnections, the truth of the revelations contained in PAI is expected to be supported by scientific reviews contained in Science / Natural Sciences material.

Abstract

The era of globalization presents significant challenges for Islamic educational institutions, particularly traditional Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), which must balance the preservation of Islamic values with adaptation to global demands. This study aims to analyze the leadership strategies employed by Pondok Pesantren Darussalam Gontor in facing the global era while maintaining its Islamic identity and educational quality. The research employed a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological research design, conducted as a field study at the modern Islamic boarding school of Darussalam Gontor in Ponorogo, East Java. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 key informants including the leadership board, senior teachers (ustadz), and alumni, supplemented by participant observation and document analysis over a six-month period from January to June 2024. The findings reveal that Gontor implements a multi-dimensional leadership strategy encompassing five key areas: curriculum integration that combines traditional Islamic studies with modern sciences at a 60:40 ratio, technological adaptation through digital learning platforms used by 95% of students, international networking with 127 affiliated institutions across 18 countries, alumni empowerment programs reaching over 80,000 graduates worldwide, and sustainable institutional development with annual growth rates of 8-12% in student enrollment. The leadership adopts a transformational approach that emphasizes vision alignment, cultural preservation, and adaptive innovation. The study concludes that Gontor's success in navigating globalization stems from its ability to maintain core Islamic values while embracing selective modernization, creating a unique educational model that produces globally competitive graduates who remain firmly rooted in Islamic principles and Indonesian cultural identity.
