Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of turmeric as an acid-base indicator in science learning at Madrasah ibtidaiyah ihya ulumiddin banjarmasin, as well as to understand students' perspectives on the use of turmeric in acid-base reaction experiments. The research method employed is a qualitative approach, utilizing interviews and observations with students at the madrasah. In the experiment, turmeric is used to indicate pH changes in solutions of Sunlight soap as a base and lime juice as an acid. The findings reveal that students have a good understanding of the acid-base concept and recognize the benefits of using turmeric as a natural, easily accessible, and environmentally friendly indicator. Based on interview results, students also expressed that this experiment made science learning more engaging and easier to comprehend. This study is expected to provide new insights into more contextual and applicable science teaching at the madrasah level.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the understanding of students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ihya Ulumiddin Banjarmasin regarding acid-base reactions through experiments using simple materials, namely vinegar and baking soda. The method used is qualitative research with a case study approach, where data is collected through observation, interviews, and documentation during the experiment. This research involves a number of fourth-grade students as research subjects. The results show that most students understand the basic concepts of acid-base reactions, such as color changes and gas bubble formation, although there are still some difficulties in explaining the relationship between reactants scientifically. This study provides an overview of the potential and challenges in teaching basic chemistry concepts at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level, and suggests a more interactive learning approach to enhance student understanding.

Abstract

This Community Service Activity (PKM) aims to introduce the concept of acid-base reactions to the students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ihya Ulumiddin in Banjarmasin through a simple experiment involving vinegar and baking soda. The selection of this material is based on the importance of early understanding of basic chemistry concepts to build critical and analytical thinking skills in children. In this activity, students are introduced to the phenomenon of acid-base reactions directly through a safe and simple experiment that can be conducted in the madrasah environment. The students are encouraged to observe the changes that occur when vinegar (acetic acid) is mixed with baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), which produces carbon dioxide gas. With this experimental-based learning approach, it is hoped that students will better understand and apply the concept of acid-base in daily life and foster their interest in natural sciences. This activity is expected not only to enrich students' scientific knowledge but also to provide an enjoyable and engaging learning experience beyond the theories taught in class.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance the environmental awareness of orphanage children in Banjarmasin by educating them on the fundamental concepts of photosynthesis and its crucial role in sustaining life. Through interactive and participatory learning sessions, the program sought not only to impart scientific knowledge but also to foster a sense of environmental responsibility and stewardship. The research employed a qualitative approach, involving observation, interviews, and pre- and post-learning assessments to measure changes in understanding and attitude. Findings indicated a significant improvement in both the children’s comprehension of photosynthesis and their awareness of environmental issues. This suggests that targeted educational interventions can effectively bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and environmental consciousness among young learners in under-resourced communities.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of biological factors, specifically DNA, on men's decisions regarding celibacy, monogamy, and polygamy. In this context, sexual and relationship decisions may be influenced by various genetic factors underlying individual behaviors and preferences. By analyzing genetic data from male samples who choose celibacy, monogamy, or polygamy, and collecting information about their social and psychological backgrounds, this research identifies genetic patterns that may be associated with tendencies toward one of these three options. Initial findings suggest that certain genetic variations may be related to relationship preferences and sexual behavior. This study provides new insights into how genetic factors can affect decisions related to relationship structures, with significant implications for further research on the interaction between biology and social behavior. The results of this research are expected to open up further dialogue regarding the role of genetics in determining human relationship dynamics.

Abstract

Photosynthesis is one of the fundamental concepts in science education that students need to understand because it is closely related to food production and oxygen supply for life on Earth. This study aimed to analyze students' understanding of the basic concepts of photosynthesis and identify the misconceptions they still possess. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews with five students based on ten questions related to photosynthesis. The collected data were analyzed descriptively according to the accuracy of students' responses for each indicator. The results showed that most students had understood the basic concepts of photosynthesis, particularly its definition, the primary organ where photosynthesis occurs, the role of chlorophyll, the time when photosynthesis takes place, and its importance for life. However, several misconceptions were identified regarding the gases involved in photosynthesis, the main products of the process, the source of energy used, and the plant organ responsible for water absorption. These findings indicate that photosynthesis instruction should be strengthened through contextual learning, inquiry-based approaches, simple laboratory activities, and the use of engaging instructional media to improve students' conceptual understanding and reduce misconceptions.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the scientific understanding and spiritual awareness of children at Al-Ihsan Orphanage, Banjarmasin, by integrating the concept of photosynthesis with contemplation (tadabbur) of the Koranic cosmic verses (Ayat Kauniyah). The program was designed to foster participants' appreciation of the harmony between scientific knowledge and Islamic teachings while promoting environmental awareness. The methods employed included interactive lectures, Koranic verse exploration, group discussions, demonstrations of the photosynthesis process, hands-on tree planting activities, and pretest and post-test evaluations. The program involved 15 orphanage children who actively participated in all learning activities. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in participants' understanding of the relationship between photosynthesis and the Koranic verses, as indicated by an increase in the average score from 54.67 on the pretest to 65.33 on the post-test. In addition, participants showed greater enthusiasm for learning science through an Islamic perspective and developed stronger environmental responsibility by recognizing plants as signs of Allah's greatness and essential components of life. Overall, the program successfully integrated scientific concepts with Koranic values, creating meaningful learning experiences that strengthened scientific literacy, religious understanding, and environmental stewardship among the participants.
