Abstract

There is a crucial importance to the quality of teachers in education, which necessitates strategies to ensure their competence. It is for this reason that teacher certification is utilized in Indonesia. In spite of the fact that existing research highlights its personal and pedagogical benefits, the socio-cultural dimensions of the initiative have yet to be adequately explored. Using sociocultural theory, this study conducted qualitative interviews with eight male teachers from Islamic kindergartens in four provinces in Indonesia. The analysis of these teachers revealed the following impact: certification clearly increased their income, enhanced their institutional image within the community, provided opportunities for colleagues to share certification experiences, increased motivation to improve performance, and cultivated a spirit of collectivism by sharing certification benefits with non-certified colleagues. In addition to shedding light on income's pivotal significance in individuals’ lives, the certification program served as a cultural tool, power dynamics might be impacted by the certification program, and the program contributed to strengthen community values. As a result of this research, future studies may examine the program's long-term effects on teachers and the community in general, as well as its influence on power dynamics and cultural context.

Abstract

This article aims to find out the role of educators in optimising the potential of qalb and aql in the learning process and the strategies used by educators in integrating qalb and aql in the context of Islamic education. This article uses a qualitative literature method with a Semantic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Data collection is carried out by searching for data using the main keywords ‘qalb, aql and education’ through the Publish and Perish 8 application with a maximum search of 200 related journals with a citation count of 1346, h-index 19, and g-index 32. The author then focuses the study on papers published in 2023-2024 as many as 100 papers. Data analysis techniques in this study are planning, conducting and reporting. The findings reveal that educators play a multi-dimensional role in optimizing the potential of qalb and aql, acting as spiritual mentors, facilitators of intellectual growth, and exemplary role models. Strategies for qalb development include self-introspection, dhikr (remembrance of God), and fostering spiritual awareness. Meanwhile, strategies for aql development involve training students in logical and critical thinking, as well as integrating modern sciences with Islamic values. In today’s era of rapid technological advancement and shifting societal norms, this study highlights the critical importance of integrating spirituality and intellect in education to produce well-rounded individuals prepared to navigate the complexities of contemporary life while upholding ethical and spiritual values.

Abstract

The evolution of criminal law in Indonesia reflects a complex interplay between indigenous legal traditions and external influences, including Islamic law. This article examines the contribution model of al-mas'ūliyyah al-jinā'iyyah (criminal liability in Islamic law) to formulating criminal liability in Indonesia’s New Criminal Code (KUHP Baru). The study adopts a qualitative research method, utilizing a comparative legal analysis framework to explore the dialectic between Islamic criminal law and the New Criminal Code. Data sources include classical legal texts, the book of Qur’anic exegesis and Hadith interpretations, legislative documents related to the New Criminal Code, academic literature, legal commentaries, and jurisprudential analyses. Through this method, the study identifies an elegant interplay between the principles of ḍarar (harm) and the fundamental criminal liability provisions in both systems. This study's findings reveal significant similarities and key differences, such as the role of intent, the typology of legal subjects, and the broader scope of liability for corporate crimes under the New Criminal Code (KUHP Baru). This article concludes that the contribution of al-mas'ūliyyah al-jinā'iyyah to the New Criminal Code lies primarily at the level of values while highlighting the potential for further alignment in specific areas.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka curriculum has posed significant challenges for teachers, particularly in learning assessment practices. This study explores the roles of Finnish teachers in evaluating student progress during parent-teacher conferences (PTCs) using a qualitative, autoethnographic approach guided by teacher practice theory. The findings highlight that Finnish teachers utilize comprehensive materials and diverse sources, playing as mentors for children by empowering students to articulate their learning experiences and collaborate with parents through fostering shared educational responsibilities with parents, which indicates the practice represented beyond solely the pedagogical domain. However, the study cautions against directly replicating the Finnish model in Indonesia due to the limited number of participants and differences in educational systems, cultural contexts, and institutional frameworks. Future research should include a larger participant pool to provide a broader understanding of PTCs in Finland, enabling Indonesia to adapt these practices effectively and resolving the problem of student learning assessment in the Merdeka curriculum.

Abstract

Finland’s consistently high performance in international assessments such as PISA has drawn global attention to its early educational practices, particularly in literacy instruction. Objective: This study explores the role of teachers in English reading subject in lower-grade Finnish classrooms, emphasizing how literacy education extends beyond technical skill acquisition. Novelty: This integrated approach positions literacy as both a cognitive and socio-emotional enterprise, central to holistic learner development. Methods: Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through interviews with a teacher, a parent, and a Grade 2 student, complemented by analysis of instructional materials. Results: Framed by Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), the findings demonstrate that Finnish teachers use English reading subject not only to develop academic skills such as fluency and comprehension but also to stimulate imagination and cultivate positive character values. Conclusions: While the small sample limits generalizability, the study offers critical insights for advancing literacy pedagogy and highlights directions for cross-cultural and longitudinal research.
