Abstract

This article conducts a systematic review of the determinants of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) performance over the period 2010-2024. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), utilizing the Scopus database to identify and evaluate relevant articles related to SMEs performance. The main findings of this article indicate that SMEs performance is influenced by two factors, internal and external factors, such as innovation, leadership, financial stability, supply chain management, and government support. Additionally, there are research gaps, such as the need for further exploration of the impact of digital transformation, the role of social media marketing, social sustainability issues, and the interaction between internal and external factors. This article offers future research directions to strengthen SMEs competitiveness in an increasingly competitive and advanced digital era.

Abstract

This study explores how consumers develop trust in two digital sources—food vloggers and electronic word-of-mouth (e-WoM)—when choosing restaurants. Using a descriptive qualitative method, in-depth interviews were conducted with 18–35-year-old Malang residents who frequently dine out and use social media. Findings reveal that food vloggers effectively raise initial awareness through emotional storytelling and visuals; however, perceived endorsements limit their credibility. In contrast, e-WoM is seen as more trustworthy due to its basis in authentic, user-generated experiences. Trust is shaped by prior experience, the completeness of information, source independence, and review consistency. Consumers apply both emotional and rational evaluations and often cross-check information before making decisions. These insights support classical consumer behavior theories and offer practical guidance for culinary marketers to effectively integrate authentic user reviews with influencer strategies, thereby building sustainable digital trust.

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are crucial drivers of national economies, particularly in developing countries like Indonesia. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted SME operations, yet also accelerated the adoption of digital technologies as a strategy for resilience and recovery. This study aims to map the research landscape of SME digitalization through a bibliometric analysis using data extracted from the Scopus database for the period 2020–2025. Employing a systematic literature review (SLR) and PRISMA methodology, 96 open-access articles in the field of Business, Management, and Accounting were selected and analyzed. The results reveal a sharp increase in digitalization-related research post-pandemic, with central themes including business models, sustainability, industry 4.0, and digital strategy. Network, overlay, and density visualizations generated via VOS viewer indicate that while digital transformation is a well-established topic, emerging themes such as digital maturity, governance, and internationalization present new research directions. This study contributes by offering a comprehensive overview of existing literature, highlighting conceptual linkages, and identifying future research avenues that integrate digital innovation, crisis resilience, and strategic development in SMEs.

Abstract

The performance of photovoltaic (PV) systems is greatly influenced by the angle of arrival of sunlight and the geometric orientation of solar panels, especially in tropical regions with the potential for solar energy throughout the year. This study aims to evaluate the effect of tilt angle variation and tracking systems on energy output and performance indicators of standalone PV systems using PVsyst software. The simulation was conducted at the State University of Malang, Indonesia, by comparing four fixed-angle configurations (20°, 40°, 60°, and 80°) as well as a two-axis tracking system. The simulation results showed that the two-axis tracking system produced the highest normalized daily energy production of 6.8 kWh/kWp/day, with a performance ratio (PR) of 77.2% and a solar fraction (SF) of 97.1%, while a fixed configuration with an angle of 80° showed the lowest performance. These findings confirm the importance of selecting optimal panel orientation to maximize the efficiency of PV systems, as well as being the basis for the development of advanced research, such as field-based experiments, integration of adaptive MPPT algorithms, and economic feasibility studies in the application of PV systems in tropical and off-grid regions.

Abstract

This study explores the techno-economic feasibility of integrating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Sidoarjo, Indonesia. Through simulation using HOMER Pro software, both standalone PV and PV-grid hybrid configurations were evaluated under real-world EV load profiles. The analysis reveals that the PV-grid hybrid system demonstrates superior economic performance, achieving an annual energy production of 39,214 kWh, a levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of $0.3975/kWh, and a return on investment (ROI) of 62.01% over 20 years, despite a payback period exceeding 30 years. Sensitivity analysis confirms that the system remains moderately resilient under a 10% reduction in solar irradiance or a 20% increase in EV demand. The study also compares the standalone PV configuration, which, while suitable for off-grid applications, results in significant energy underutilization. Moreover, the PV-grid model supports surplus electricity sales, enhancing financial viability. These findings provide actionable insights for stakeholders, energy planners, and policymakers aiming to scale EV charging infrastructure sustainably in Indonesia’s urban environments.

Abstract

The prevailing narrative in international business research has long positioned Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as structurally disadvantaged actors in global trade—constrained by the dual liabilities of smallness and foreignness and largely dependent on gradual, resource-intensive market entry strategies. This systematic literature review challenges the adequacy of that framing in the Asian context. Drawing on 60 peer-reviewed sources published between 2018 and 2026, and adhering to PRISMA guidelines, we argue that a synergistic digital ecosystem—comprising cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) infrastructure, influencer marketing, user-generated content (UGC), and human-mediated personal shopper networks—has fundamentally restructured the internationalization calculus for MSMEs across the region. These four drivers do not operate independently; they form a co-evolving network in which each mechanism amplifies the signal and mitigates the risk posed by the others. E-commerce platforms expand market reach and improve supply chain performance; influencers and UGC build consumer trust and brand credibility; personal shoppers bridge cultural and cross-border gaps with personalized service and embedded social intelligence. Critically, we identify a structural divergence between two dominant regional models: China’s high-tech, AI-driven paradigm—characterized by super-app ecosystems, virtual influencers, and algorithmic personalization—and Southeast Asia’s high-touch model, which privileges authenticity, community trust, and human mediation. Both pathways achieve international reach, but they do so by leveraging fundamentally different types of capital. This review also engages seriously with the dark side of digital transformation: platform dependency, algorithmic opacity, the unmeasurable influence of ‘dark social’ channels, structural digital literacy deficits, influencer scandals, and frugal innovation as a counter-strategy. These are not peripheral concerns—they are systemic vulnerabilities that constrain the sustainability of digitally driven internationalization. The paper concludes with a research agenda oriented toward Industry 5.0 frameworks, AI ethics, and longitudinal methodologies capable of capturing the long arc of digital resilience.
