Abstract

Mangroves are tropical trees that thrive in intolerable conditions of mostly salty wood, coastal waters, and endless tides. Thanks to their ability to store large amounts of carbon, mangroves are a key weapon in the fight against climate change but are under threat around the world. By protecting mangroves, we can help protect the future of our planet. Referring to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the area of mangrove ecosystems in Aceh reaches 3.63 million hectares or 20.37% of the world's total area.  With this significant area, Indonesia has a great responsibility in preserving the global mangrove ecosystem.  Therefore, World Mangrove Day is an important moment to reflect on the efforts that have been made and take concrete actions in maintaining and preserving mangrove forests which are an important part of Indonesia's natural wealth. Mangroves play a crucial role in coastal ecosystems, serving as natural fortresses that protect beaches from erosion and storms, absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and provide habitat for a variety of marine and bird species. Given the severe environmental damage that occurred in Lampageu village due to the tsunami disaster, the tsunami survivors wanted to reforest the mangroves so that they returned to their original state.  This is because mangrove ecosystems have so many functions and benefits for the lives of local villagers.

Abstract

Irrigation is a crucial component in agricultural systems, significantly contributing to crop productivity. In Gampong Lubok Batee, Ingin Jaya Subdistrict, Aceh Besar, irrigation water sources include surface water such as rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, as well as groundwater classified into unconfined, confined, and perched aquifers. The selection of irrigation water sources considers factors such as water availability, ease of access, proximity to agricultural land, and, most importantly, water quality. Ideal irrigation water must meet specific quality standards, including a neutral to slightly alkaline pH range (5.0-9.0), be odorless, and free from toxic substances. The quality of irrigation water has a direct impact on the physical and chemical properties of the soil, as well as on plant growth. Therefore, water quality assessment is conducted using methods such as the Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR), the US Salinity Laboratory method, and the Scofield method. Sustainable and wise management of water resources is essential to support productive and environmentally friendly agriculture.

Abstract

Orchidaceae is a flower that is favored by most women, in order to develop Aceh for the future, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam programmed orchid plants as one of the main commodities of ornamental plants, because orchids have beauty in their flowers and have various forms that have their own charm.  Orchid seeds in Banda Aceh are generally obtained from cuttings, but for people who have commercialized orchid businesses, seeds are obtained by buying tissue culture results because the seeds are more guaranteed. In this activity, orchid propagation is carried out vegetatively, namely with saplings (keiki). Keiki propagation of Dendrobium orchids is very simple and inexpensive and quickly adapts to the new environment.  The practical use of planting media and husk charcoal for the propagation of Dendrobium orchids has proven results that can be seen from the emergence of seedlings left on the media.

Abstract

The Krueng Raya River plays a strategic role in supporting the livelihoods of surrounding communities, both as an environmental resource and as a foundation for local economic activities. However, the river’s use remains limited and not managed optimally, resulting in underdeveloped economic potential and minimal impact on community welfare. At the same time, increasing pressure on the river ecosystem from human activities and land-use changes could reduce ecological functions and heighten environmental vulnerability. This community service program aims to optimize the potential of the Krueng Raya River to strengthen local economic development while enhancing environmental resilience. The approach involves identifying river-based economic opportunities, providing community education and assistance, and promoting environmentally friendly practices for using river resources. The expected outcomes of this program include improved community capacity for sustainable river management, the development of local economic activities based on river resources, and the preservation of the Krueng Raya River’s ecological functions as part of a long-term effort to strengthen environmental resilience.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to provide farmers with an understanding of the benefits and principles of using liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) to increase potato productivity and maintain soil fertility, improve farmers’ skills in making and applying LOF independently by utilizing local organic materials, and encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly technology in potato cultivation systems in the highlands of Aceh Tengah. Socialisation and Training were carried out in Jagong Jeget District, Central Aceh Regency, from July 8 to 10, 2025. The potato cultivation land belongs to a local farmer group (selected together with field agricultural extension workers). The results of the Community Service activity include increased farmer knowledge, improved practical skills in making LOF, greater adoption of technology, and greater environmental awareness. This socialisation activity successfully expanded potato farmers’ knowledge, skills, and understanding of LOF. The participatory and demonstrative methods used in the activity have proven effective in transferring appropriate technology to the farming community.
