Abstract

This community service activity was carried out in Kurahan Village, Sidoarum Village, Godean District, Sleman Regency, with a focus on the elderly with an age range of 40 to 70 years who are a vulnerable group that often faces various chronic health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, mobility disorders, and mental health. Given the importance of access to health for the elderly, who are often constrained by economic, transportation, and information factors, this activity aims to provide accessible and quality health services. This activity involves a medical team consisting of orthopedic specialists, mental health specialists, and pharmacists. This health check service includes consultation, health checks, and the provision of free medicines. The number of participants who participated was 85 participants, consisting of 66 women and 19 men. The results of the activity showed high enthusiasm from the community, where most participants were satisfied or very satisfied with the services provided. This activity not only met the participation target but also succeeded in increasing the awareness of the elderly to be more proactive in maintaining their health. This was evidenced by the commitment of the participants to conduct routine health checks, visit the clinic if sick, follow a healthy lifestyle, and comply with recommendations to take medication regularly.

Abstract

In the development of composite technology, synthetic fiber reinforcers are gradually being replaced by natural fibers. This shift is driven by growing awareness of environmental issues and the scarcity of petroleum resources, prompting researchers to explore the potential of natural fibers. This study used scraped ramie fiber (SRK) as a reinforcer, with recycled polypropylene (PP) serving as the matrix. The mixture ratios used between PP/SRK (%) were as follows: 90/10, 80/20, 70/30, 60/40, and 50/50. Before use, the scraped ramie fiber (SRK) was subjected to pretreatment with 5% NaOH to improve the mechanical bonding. The hot press technique was used to fabricate the PP/SRK composite. The physical and mechanical properties of the PP/SRK composite were analyzed through weight, thickness, volume, density, tensile strength, and bending strength measurements. The results of physical measurements obtained density values for all samples between 0.73 - 0.76. The tensile test results showed a maximum stress value of 9.91 MPa and a strain value of 7.60% at the PP/SRK ratio 50/50. Then, the maximum modulus of rupture (MOR) was 23.49 MPa, and the modulus of elasticity (MOE) was 1.78 GPa at the PP/SRK ratio of 50/50.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mechanical properties of composites made from recycled polypropylene reinforced with natural ramie fiber (SR), ramie waste fiber (LR), and scraped ramie fiber (RK). Recycled polypropylene was used as the binder material, while ramie fiber (SR), ramie waste fiber (LR), and scraped ramie fiber (RK) were processed by alkalization to improve the adhesion between the layers. Composite fabrication was performed by varying the ratio between matrix and reinforcer A (70/30), B (60/40), and C (50/50) using a hot press machine. Tensile test was performed according to ASTM D-638 standard. The test results showed that the composite reinforced with scraped ramie fibers (RK) produced a maximum stress of 9.26 MPa at the A3 (70/30) ratio, and the highest strain reached 7.6% at the B3 (60/40) and C3 (50/30) ratios. The more uniform structure of scraped ramie fibers (RK) was shown to contribute to a better stress distribution compared to ramie fibers (SR) and ramie waste (LR). Thus, scraped ramie fibers (RK) can be identified as the most optimal reinforcing material for recycled polypropylene composites.
