Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of lecture timing on learning outcomes in Multivariable Calculus using One-Way ANOVA. The type of research is quantitative. The subjects of this study are students of the Mathematics Education program at Jember University from class of 2023, for the Academic Year 2024-2025, enrolled in the regular Multivariable Calculus course. The samples were purposively selected: Class A (morning class) with 35 students, Class B (afternoon class) with 37 students, and Class E (evening class) with 30 students. The sample data were free of outliers, normally distributed, and homogeneous. The results show that and p-value < 0.05, indicating that at a 95% confidence level, there is at least one pair of treatments with significantly different average learning outcomes. Based on the Post Hoc test, significant differences in average learning outcomes were found between Class A and Class B, and between Class A and Class E, while betweet Class B and Class E did not show significant differences in average learning outcomes. Keywords: learning outcomes, lecture timing, One-Way ANOVA

Abstract

Mathematical communication is an important part in learning mathematics. Mathematical communication is a way for students to express mathematical ideas either orally, in writing, pictures, diagrams, using objects, presenting in algebraic form, or using mathematical symbols. Through mathematical communication, students can convey ideas and clarify understanding and knowledge during the mathematics learning process. Mathematical communication skills are important because in learning mathematics, the use of notation, symbols, formulas and terms is a determining factor in problem solving. Due to the pandemic, learning activities are carried out online through Edmodo. This may bring changes to students' mathematical communication when doing a discussion. For this reason, this research aims to describe students' mathematical communication during discussion session in the Introduction to Geometry course through Edmodo. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this research were 35 students of first semester mathematics education who were taking the Introduction to Geometry course. The results showed that in doing a discussion, the students used written, visual, and symbolic mathematical communication. In expressing their opinion, students can also use more than one type of mathematical communication. In addition, the opinions expressed in the discussion were at various cognitive levels.

Abstract

Student must have spatial ability in order to understand geometry material well. Students with low spatial ability will find it difficult to understand geometry. The application of AR such as Assemblr Edu with the integration of traditional snacks is a solution to improve students’ spatial ability. This study aims to describe the process and results of developing an AR-based geometry book integrated with traditional snacks to improve students’ spatial ability. The research method is R&D with the ADDIE model. Data were collected using questionnaire and test method, with validation sheet instruments, readability test questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and spatial ability tests that had been validated before use. Geometry books are arranged according to spatial ability indicators: spatial perception, spatial visualization, and mental rotation. The trial was conducted on grade IX junior hidh school students. The results showed that geometry books were valid (2.84), practical (81.7%), and effective in improving students’ spatial ability with 93.8% of students reaching the minimum moderate category. So, AR-based geometry books integrated with traditional snacks can improve students’ spatial ability. Further research is recommended to explore AR application with 3D object decomposition features and cross-cultural integration to test the adaptation of books in different regional contexts.
