Abstract

A satisfying social and personal life will be realized through education, and the educational process will shape students' character. The Architecture Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of Muhammadiyah Aceh is a department that conducts direct learning in both theory classes, laboratories, and design studio rooms. As part of educational facilities, the existence of a classroom is an important element in the learning process, the comfort of the classroom affects the level of focus and concentration of students in teaching and learning activities in the classroom. This study aims to examine the influence of the square shape of the classroom on the psychological comfort of students and identify the factors that affect the psychological comfort of students in Architecture Department. Using qualitative methods through observation to study objects in the form of a square shaped learning classroom of Architecture Department. Literature study is used to explore previous research, regulations and standards related to this research. Indicators used to assess students' psychological comfort are physical environmental factors, and psychological factors. Physical environmental factors in the form of lighting and spatial layout, while psychological factors related to focus, comfort and positive feelings felt by students, so that effective learning can be created. The results showed that, the shape of the classroom has a significant influence on the psychological comfort of students where the capacity of the RKB at the Architecture Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of Muhammadiyah Aceh which exceeds the standard and the lack of flexibility of the layout has a negative impact on student comfort.

Abstract

Traditional Acehnese houses are traditional houses of the Acehnese people that reflect the richness of culture and Islamic values. Traditional Acehnese houses, or commonly called rumoh Aceh, have unique characteristics that can attract tourists, especially those interested in spiritual tourism. In addition to visual appeal, Rumoh Aceh also provides space for religious tourists to engage in spiritual practices and understand the Islamic philosophy that underlies the layout of the house. This enriches the tourist experience with direct interaction with the religious life of the local community. The design of the house oriented towards the direction of the Qibla, the use of natural materials such as wood and rumbia leaves, and architectural elements such as low doors that symbolize humility, all reflect religious and social values ​​that are integrated into the lives of the Acehnese people. This study uses qualitative methods through direct observation and also literature studies on Acehnese architecture and Islamic values ​​integrated into the design of rumoh Aceh. This study emphasizes the importance of preserving Rumoh Aceh not only as a physical cultural heritage, but also as part of Aceh's spiritual identity. The preservation of this traditional house has great potential to contribute to the development of sustainable religious tourism that can support local economic growth, while maintaining the richness of Acehnese culture. Proper promotion and preservation efforts for Rumoh Aceh as a religious tourism object can increase global awareness of Aceh's cultural values ​​and strengthen its position in the religious tourism sector.

Abstract

Tropical architecture is a building design concept that adapts to the tropical climate, which must be able to overcome climate problems. Aceh traditional house commonly called ˜Rumoh Aceh, is the traditional house that is still inhabited by the Acehnese community nowadays. The building design of Aceh traditional houses is proven to have many advantages compared to modern houses nowadays, in terms of structure, construction, and also thermal comfort. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the tropical wisdom in Aceh traditional houses by learning the implementation of the design, to know how it provides comfort for the users. Qualitative research is a method used to identify the effectiveness of the building design strategy of the houses in adapting to tropical climates. The data collection is done through observation, interview, and documentation. The result shows that the Aceh traditional house apply tropical wisdom in its building design. The wisdom of tropical design elements in the houses is seen from the north-south orientation of building mass, the use of stage-form in the building to optimize air circulation, the appropriate placement of air ventilation, the open space for the interior concept, the use of environmentally friendly local material, and the use of sloping roof with a wide overhang to quickly channel rainwater, prevent rain splashes, and prevent strong winds from damaging the roof structure.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi landmark arsitektur dan lanskap yang ada di Banda Aceh dan Aceh Besar, dengan fokus pada peran elemen-elemen ini dalam mendukung sektor pariwisata. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif, dilakukan survei lapangan, observasi langsung, dan wawancara dengan pemangku kepentingan terkait untuk mengidentifikasi berbagai landmark yang menjadi daya tarik wisata. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa terdapat 27 atraksi wisata yang terdiri dari landmark arsitektur dan lanskap, yang masing-masing memiliki nilai sejarah, budaya, serta spiritual yang berkontribusi terhadap identitas daerah dan menarik minat wisatawan. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi dasar dalam pengembangan strategi pariwisata yang lebih berkelanjutan, yang mempertimbangkan preservasi warisan arsitektur dan lanskap lokal.

Abstract

Abstract. Aceh, as a province deeply rooted in Islamic Sharia, consistently applies the teachings of Islam in every aspect of community life. Aceh has customs and culture based on Islamic teachings. Traditional Acehnese houses, commonly known as 'Rumoh Aceh,' represent the traditional homes of the Acehnese people, conveying meanings and philosophies related to the culture and customs of the Acehnese community. This research aims to identify and examine the compatibility of traditional Acehnese house designs based on Islamic values and architectural principles. The study employs a descriptive-qualitative method to uncover the application of Islamic architecture in traditional Acehnese house structures. The research findings indicate that traditional Acehnese houses adhere to Islamic architecture principles. Every element of the building and the design of spaces, all grounded in the teachings of Islam.
