Abstract

In this digital age, learning English is increasingly accessible through mobile apps. Duolingo and Cake are two popular apps that offer English language learning with different approaches. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of Duolingo and Cake apps in improving the English language skills of University of Nias. Using a causal comparative quantitative method, this study involved 20 University of Nias students as participants. Data was collected through pre and post learning tests to measure improvement in English language skills, particularly in terms of grammar and vocabulary. The results showed that the Duolingo application was more effective than Cake. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of application-based learning media in English language learning. However, Duolingo is more recommended for users who want to improve their grammar and vocabulary skills. Ultimately, this study concludes that Duolingo is recommended for users who want to improve grammar and vocabulary, while Cake can offer a more stable learning experience for those who seek consistency in practice. The urgency of this research lies in the increasing need for English language skills in the era of globalization. By knowing the relative effectiveness of the two apps, learners can choose the app that best suits their learning needs and preferences. In addition, the results of this study can also be a reference for language learning app developers in creating more relevant and effective features. The implication of this research is the importance of considering learners' individual characteristics in choosing learning media.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of teacher training in English classes at SMA S Nupela on students' performance. The objective is to assess the impact of different training methods such as workshops, online training and peer mentoring on students' improvement in English language proficiency. The study employs a quasi-experimental design with a control and experimental group and collects primary data from teachers and students and secondary data from school records. Results show that teacher training significantly improved students' performance with the greatest improvement coming from peer mentoring (16.2%), followed by workshops (11.1%) and online training (8.1%). Statistical analysis using paired t-test confirmed that all training methods had a significant effect on students' performance (p-value < 0.05). Furthermore, the ANOVA results showed a significant difference between the training groups (F = 4.91, p-value = 0.010), suggesting that the training method has an impact on student success. This study highlights the importance of teacher training, especially interactive methods such as peer mentoring, in improving both teaching effectiveness and student outcomes in English language learning. These findings provide valuable insights for designing more effective teacher training programs to improve the quality of education in SMA S Nupela.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR) technology as an innovative learning tool to enhance student understanding across various subjects. The integration of AR in educational settings has shown promising potential in creating interactive and immersive learning experiences. Through a systematic analysis of AR implementation in classroom settings, this research examines its effectiveness in improving student comprehension, engagement, and learning outcomes. The study employs a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative assessment of student performance with qualitative evaluation of learning experiences. Results indicate that AR-based learning significantly improves student understanding, with particular effectiveness in subjects requiring spatial visualization and complex concept comprehension. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on educational technology integration and provides practical insights for educators seeking to implement AR-based learning solutions.
