Abstract

High academic pressure, strict discipline, and social dynamics in Islamic boarding schools trigger panic attacks. This study aims to examine the role of Kiai as a counselor in overcoming panic attacks with a spiritual approach in Islamic boarding schools. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach at the Pesantren Takhasus Al-Qur'an Kalibeber Wonosobo. The results showed that the psychological pressure experienced by students was quite significant. The symptoms were excessive anxiety, restlessness, and difficulty in social interaction. Kiai played an essential role in relieving panic attacks through dhikr and prayer, Islamic reflection therapy, counseling based on Al-Qur'an values, and an individual approach. Several of these methods were able to reduce panic attack symptoms, increase emotional stability, and provide students with confidence in dealing with stress. The dynamics of interpersonal relationships between Kiai and students were the main supporting factors for the effectiveness of this approach. This study concluded that the integration of spiritual guidance, Islamic counseling methods, and social support created a conducive Islamic boarding school environment for students' mental recovery. These findings provide theoretical and practical contributions by emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach combining spiritual, psychological, and social aspects to support students' mental health.

Abstract

This study investigates how English language learning strategies integrated with technology impact the learning outcomes of junior high school students in Palu City. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys, pre- and post-tests, qualitative interviews with teachers, and classroom observations. A total of 150 students from three schools participated, providing data on their perceptions of technology in learning English and their proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Quantitative analysis revealed significant improvements in all tested skills following the implementation of technology-integrated strategies, supported by statistical findings (p < 0.05). Surveys indicated positive student attitudes towards technology, citing increased understanding, motivation, and enjoyment in learning English. However, challenges such as limited digital access outside school hours were identified. Qualitative insights from teacher interviews highlighted benefits like enhanced student engagement but also underscored the need for ongoing professional development and equitable access to digital resources. Classroom observations illustrated varied implementation and student engagement levels, emphasizing the importance of pedagogical alignment and effective use of technology in language teaching. This study contributes to the discourse on technology-enhanced education in diverse contexts, offering practical recommendations for improving English language learning outcomes in Palu City's junior high schools.

Abstract

Bullying in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) is a pressing issue, considering that Islamic boarding schools should be spaces for character development and religious values. This phenomenon indicates a gap between moral teachings and social practices in the daily lives of students. This study aims to explore the implementation of the BullyGuard approach as a bullying prevention strategy based on education and peer mentoring at the Ma'had Ilmu Al Qur'an (MIQ) Al Hikam Islamic Boarding School in Wonosobo. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, then analyzed thematically using NVivo software. The results show that the BullyGuard approach is able to create a more supportive and child-friendly social environment, with a decrease in cases of verbal and social bullying and increased solidarity among students. The active role of the ustadz, the involvement of administrators, and peer empowerment are key to the success of this model. This research contributes to the development of educational intervention models based on religious values and relevant to the local cultural context of Islamic boarding schools. The conclusion of this study shows that the integration of psychosocial approaches and spiritual values is effective in establishing a safe and inclusive Islamic boarding school ecosystem. Further research is recommended to test this model in various Islamic boarding schools with a mixed methods approach to enrich the findings.
