Abstract

The high divorce rate in Indonesia often has a significant impact on the mental well-being of children, particularly due to the absence of a father figure and emotional instability within the family. This study focuses on the impact of single mothers’ remarriage on children’s mental development from the perspective of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah. The primary issue explored is how the presence of a stepfather influences the emotional, social, and intellectual stability of children in post-divorce families. The study employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, involving in-depth interviews with six single mothers who have remarried in Negararatu Village, South Lampung. The findings reveal that the presence of a stepfather positively contributes to the reinforcement of religious values (ḥifẓ ad-dīn), emotional well-being (ḥifẓ an-nafs), intellectual development (ḥifẓ al-‘aql), family relations (ḥifẓ an-naṣl), and economic stability (ḥifẓ al-māl). From the perspective of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, remarriage not only strengthens family structure but also supports the psychological recovery of children after divorce. The novelty of this study lies in integrating the maqāṣid al-sharīʿah framework with the modern family context to explain the role of stepfathers in enhancing children’s mental well-being holistically.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed how Muslims access, study, and disseminate Islamic knowledge. This transformation requires an ethical and epistemological framework to ensure that digitalization processes remain grounded in Islamic values. This study aims to address three main research questions: how Islamic digitalization is understood within the context of Islamic scholarship and civilization; how the legal maxim “Man ista‘jala qabla awānihi ‘uqiba bi ḥirmānih” (Whoever rushes before its time will be deprived of it) relates to the phenomenon of digital acceleration; and how the principle of Itqān Raqmī (Digital Perfection) can serve as a moral and academic foundation for developing an ethical and civilized Islamic digitalization. Employing a qualitative library research method, this study uses descriptive and hermeneutic analyses of both classical and contemporary Islamic literature, including works by al-Suyūṭī and al-Syāṭibī, as well as modern academic discussions on digital ethics and Islamic epistemology. The findings reveal that Islamic digitalization is not merely a technical process but an epistemological transformation that requires patience, precision, and scholarly responsibility. The maxim “Man ista‘jala qabla awānihi ‘uqiba bi ḥirmānih” provides a moral warning against hasty adoption of technology without proper validation and adab, while the principle of Itqān Raqmī promotes a paradigm of digital excellence emphasizing accuracy, professionalism, and barakah (divine blessing) in every process of digitalization. Therefore, integrating the values of patience and digital perfection forms the ethical foundation for realizing an Islamic digitalization that is scholarly, ethical, and civilizational. Keywords: Islamic Digitalization; Man Ista‘jala Qabla Awānihi ‘Uqiba Bi Ḥirmānih; Itqān Raqmī; Islamic Digital Ethics.

Abstract

Studies of ḥadīth on family law in contemporary Islamic discourse frequently become trapped in ahistorical and literalistic approaches. This tendency can be seen in the reading of ḥadīths related to polygamy, divorce, child marriage, and wifely obedience, which are often reduced to mere normative legitimization without considering historical context, maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, and the challenges of modern families. This article proposes a new framework called HERMES (Hermeneutic Resonance of Muslim Family Ethics and Sharīʿah) as an alternative paradigm. HERMES emphasizes that ḥadīth is not merely a static text, but a living resonance of prophetic values that interacts across time. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research and critical-hermeneutic analysis. The data are drawn from primary sources in the form of classical ḥadīth collections and their commentaries, as well as secondary sources consisting of contemporary studies on family law, maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, and modern hermeneutical theories. The analysis combines an ahistorical critique of literalistic interpretations with a transdisciplinary construction involving sociology, psychology, and the philosophy of law. HERMES is structured around four dimensions: (1) hermeneutic resonance, namely historical–contextual reading; (2) ethical resonance, which involves extracting the values of justice, compassion, and public benefit (maṣlaḥah); (3) social resonance, which connects ḥadīth with contemporary issues such as digital divorce, child marriage, and domestic violence; and (4) sharīʿah resonance, which reaffirms maqāṣid as the primary objective of family law. Through this approach, the article demonstrates that HERMES can serve as an epistemological foundation for reformulating Islamic family law to be more adaptive, just, and relevant.

Abstract

This article explores the modern Muslim family concept by synthesizing Ibn Kathir's tafsir bil ma’tsur of Qur’an Surah Ali ‘Imran 37 with Robert Kiyosaki’s MILES theory (Money, Intelligence, Location, Education, Status). The verse portrays Maryam as accepted by God, raised in purity, and nurtured under Prophet Zakariya’s care. Ibn Kathir emphasizes early spiritual education and a religious environment in shaping children’s character. Using qualitative library research, this study draws on Ibn Kathir’s Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Azim, contemporary tafsir, and family education theories. Findings show that Ibn Kathir’s values align with MILES: Status in Imran’s family faith, Education and Intelligence in Zakariya’s guardianship, Money in divine sustenance for Maryam, and Location in the sacred mihrab. The synthesis offers a framework for modern Muslim families child education rooted in Qur’anic spirituality, reinforced by socio-economic resilience.
