Abstract

The mangrove communities and their utilization for ecotourism are situated along the Kali Lamong riverbanks, specifically in Sukorejo Village, Kebomas District, Gresik Regency. In the context of area management, it is crucial to understand the current state of the mangrove community through an analysis of the biodiversity index and important value index. The method used in this study is the line plot transect method. Data were analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index to determine the value of the Biodiversity Index and also calculate the density, frequency and dominance to determine the Important Value Index (IVI). The results of the data analysis indicated that there were 10 mangrove species found in the sampling area. The highest Biodiversity Index was in the category of mangrove saplings, namely 1,83; trees of 1,67; and seedlings of 1,33. The highest Importance Value Index is in the tree category mangrove with an IVI value of 98,66, namely the Avicennia marina mangrove. Meanwhile, the mangrove IVI in the sapling category with the highest value was Rhizophora mucronata, which was 82,75; and IVI of the highest category of seedlings also belongs to the Avicennia marina mangrove, which is 54,25.

Abstract

Madiun River is the largest and main river in Madiun City, which is part of the Bengawan Solo River with a river length of 141 km. Sampling was carried out at seven points along the Madiun River to determine the quality and status of the river. Parameters tested included physical (pH, TSS, DO), chemical (BOD, COD, nitrate, phosphate) and biological (faecal coliform). The Pollution Index (IP) method is used to determine the water quality status of the river, based on the Decree of the Minister of the Environment No. 115 of 2003 on the determination of water quality status. The results showed that the average IP value of the Madiun River was 2.353, which is classified as slightly polluted. The parameters BOD, phosphate and faecal coliform are the main indicators of pollution as they do not meet the requirements of Class II quality standards based on PP RI Number 22 of 2021. Reducing pollution requires routine monitoring, good management of domestic waste and socialisation of the community and farmers on the importance of maintaining river water quality. The research is expected to provide a basis for the government and stakeholders to formulate comprehensive water quality management policies and programmes.

Abstract

Waste management in Indonesia remains a significant challenge with implications for health and the environment. This research uses descriptive quantitative methods, including observation and interviews, to analyse the role of Bank Sampah RW 8 Gunung Anyar Tambak, Surabaya, in community-based waste management. From 2020 to 2024, the number of waste banks increased from one to three, and they succeeded in reducing the generation of inorganic waste by 84,358 kg, a reduction of 8,456 kg, or 10.02%. The number of waste bank members also increased by 39.89%, from 140 to 351 people. The waste exchange rate system enables residents to save valuable waste, which is then converted into cash, thereby providing a tangible economic benefit. Although the programme contributes only 0.0063% to Surabaya City's total waste reduction, it promotes environmental awareness and the circular economy at a local level. In conclusion, waste banks are effective in reducing household waste while improving community welfare.

Abstract

Climate change has a significant impact on people's lives, particularly in terms of access to clean water and environmental sanitation. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) as a form of climate change adaptation through improved sanitation and clean water provision in RW 08, Gunung Anyar Tambak Subdistrict, Surabaya City. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that activities such as the construction of biopores, infiltration wells, paving, provision of household wastewater treatment systems (IPAL), healthy latrines, and access to water from PDAM and water pumps have led to an increase in the quantity of infrastructure, which is seen as a sign of improvement. Active community participation, the presence of Larvae Monitoring Cadres (Jumantik), and the use of the “Sayang Warga” application have further strengthened the early warning system for climate-related diseases. This program supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 and can serve as a community-based sustainable development model applicable in other areas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of compliance of PT X in the disposal of industrial emissions with applicable regulations, especially in the fertilizer production sector. The method used is descriptive quantitative approach with data collection through document study and field observation. The source of air pollution at PT X comes from flue gas emissions generated by 3 chimneys with pollutant control in the form of cyclones. Air quality monitoring is carried out every six months, namely in the January-June and July-December periods. The availability of Green Open Space in the company area still has not reached 20% of the total land area. Meanwhile, the results of the Spearman correlation analysis showed an insignificant relationship between the quality of air emissions and ambient air (p-value> 0.05 or 0.054). Overall, the analysis shows that PT X has implemented several operational standards in accordance with the provisions of government regulations. Based on the analysis, PT X has generally complied with environmental regulations related to industrial emissions, with emission and ambient air quality still in accordance with quality standards. So, even though it has implemented appropriate operational standards and emission control, PT. X still needs to improve compliance in the aspect of green space in industrial areas.

Abstract

Abstract

Urban areas in Jakarta face significant pressure on clean water resources due to increasing population and anthropogenic activities. This research aims to conduct biomonitoring of the Situ Bambon Ciracas lake ecosystem, East Jakarta, by analyzing water quality and the community structure of macrozoobenthos, phytoplankton, and zooplankton as bioindicators. A descriptive quantitative method was used, involving measurements of water physical-chemical parameters (TDS, TSS, pH, BOD, COD, Total-P) and identification of aquatic biota. The results indicate that the water quality of Situ Bambon Ciracas lake is lightly to moderately polluted, dominated by organic compounds. BOD (5−34.67 mg/L) and COD (17.05−193.56 mg/L) values consistently exceeded the Class 3 water quality standards, and TDS showed an increasing trend. The biota community structure reflects these conditions: macrozoobenthos showed moderate diversity (H′=1.2, E=0.6). Phytoplankton (H′=3.12−3.2, E=0.74−0.76) and zooplankton (H′=2.11−2.16, E=0.76−1.95) showed high diversity and evenness, but were dominated by bioindicator species tolerant to organic pollution (e.g., Oscillatoria sp., Nitzschia sp., Colpoda sp., Closterium sp.). The positive correlation between the abundance of these bioindicator species and high BOD and COD confirms organic waste as the main driver of ecological change. In conclusion, the Situ Bambon Ciracas lake ecosystem is under significant anthropogenic pressure. The dominance of pollution-tolerant species, despite existing diversity, highlights the urgency of comprehensive management and restoration efforts to maintain the sustainability of this urban lake.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the performance of hazardous and toxic (B3) waste management, reduction, and utilization at PT Kaltim Parna Industri, an ammonia-producing industry, in relation to applicable regulatory requirements. The evaluation focuses on eight types of B3 waste generated in 2024 and covers waste identification and balance, packaging, hazard communication through symbols and labels, the design and facilities of the temporary storage facility (TPS), storage practices, and waste reduction and utilization efforts. A quantitative descriptive approach was applied using a checklist instrument and Guttman-scale scoring to compare existing conditions with the technical criteria stipulated in the regulations. The results indicate very high compliance in technical aspects, with the TPS building and storage system achieving 100% compliance and the implementation of symbols and labels also achieving 100%, while the packaging aspect reached 88.8%; however, minor gaps remain in the consistency of applying symbols and labels to each individual package. These findings suggest that the B3 waste management system at the studied facility is generally effective, yet it still requires strengthening in documentation and the standardization of field practices, and the evaluation framework can be applied to similar industries for periodic performance reviews and for reinforcing environmental management systems.
