Abstract

The increasing area of oil palm plantations will increase the production of crude palm oil and empty fruit bunches. This will require chemical and non-chemical fertilisers. By reducing the use of excessive chemicals, sustainable and environmentally friendly oil palm plantations can be achieved. One way to achieve this is by utilising empty oil palm bunch waste into compost. This service aims to provide knowledge, understanding, and how to process empty oil palm bunches into compost. This activity was carried out in Riau Province, Siak Regency, Kampung Buatan Baru, Kerinci Kanan District. The goal achieved through this service is to increase community understanding and knowledge about the importance and benefits obtained from empty palm bunch waste into compost.

Abstract

One efficient method to prevent infections spread by mosquitoes is to use repellent. However, when used regularly over an extended period, insect repellents containing DEET commonly available on the market may induce adverse effects such as hypersensitivity, irritation, and hives. Pineapple and sweet orange peels can be utilized as natural ingredients in mosquito-repelling lotions because they contain various secondary metabolites, including tannins, saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, and essential oils. This study aimed to find the optimal concentration of pineapple peel extract based on the characteristics of the produced mosquito repellent lotion. The experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD), producing 15 experimental units with five treatments—pineapple peel extract concentrations—each with three replications: 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, and 6%. The lotion with a 6% concentration of pineapple peel extract (LNJ5) was selected due to its homogenous physical characteristics, pH of 7.89, spreadability of 6.98 cm, viscosity of 2131.02 cP, and mosquito protection rate of 88.64%. The lotion had a yellowish-brown color, a faint pineapple and orange scent, and a descriptive organoleptic evaluation that panelists found pleasing

Abstract

Abstract

The level of physiological maturity of the plant, productivity at harvest, and content in the material are all determined by harvest age, which is a component that is strongly tied to the phase of plant growth. Oyster mushrooms will undergo biochemical changes as they mature, but they will also change physically when they are harvested, especially in terms of color, texture, size, form, and the sections that may be eaten. This study aims to discover the optimal harvest age for yellow oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) based on their physical, chemical, and antioxidant activity. It also examines the impact of harvest age on the physical, chemical, and antioxidant activity of yellow oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus citrinopileatus). The design of this investigation was entirely random. This study used two harvest periods of yellow oyster mushrooms with harvest ages of 2, 3, 4, and 5 days after the appearance of pinheads as the treatment. Three times each experimental unit is repeated. The nursery, incubation, upkeep, and harvest of yellow oyster mushrooms comprised the study. The findings demonstrated that wet weight, rendemen, total phenol, and antioxidant activity of yellow oyster mushrooms were significantly influenced by harvest age. It is advised to harvest the yellow oyster mushroom on the third day after the appearance of pinheads.
