Abstract

This research, conducted at TK Al-Irsyad Al-Islamia in Gorontalo, Indonesia, investigated the effectiveness of using clothespins as a manipulative media to enhance fine motor skills in young children aged 4-5 years old. Initial observations revealed that some children exhibited underdeveloped fine motor skills, struggling with activities like coloring, pasting, and drawing. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing survey methods and document analysis. Findings indicated that the use of clothespins as a manipulative tool proved effective in improving fine motor skills. Children successfully matched the number of clothespins with numbers on a cardboard and stood them upright, demonstrating improved fine motor control. The research recommends the regular use of clothespins as a manipulative aid in learning activities to enhance fine motor skills in young children. Further research is needed to explore the effectiveness of using clothespins with varying age groups and levels of difficulty. It is hoped that this research will inspire educators to utilize creative and engaging manipulative media in their teaching practices, thereby fostering children's interest and motivation in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between family social support and the discipline of 4-5-year-old children at Pembina State Kindergarten. The study used a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational approach. A sample of 14 parents was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were obtained through a five-level Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation test. The results showed that children's discipline was in the very high category at 93.5%, while family social support was also in the very high category at 94.9%. However, the correlation test showed an r value of –0.14, indicating a very weak and insignificant relationship between family social support and children's discipline. This finding indicates that, despite high family support, other factors such as role models and school habits likely have a greater influence on the development of children's discipline. This study emphasizes the importance of collaboration between families and educational institutions in supporting the development of discipline in early childhood.

Abstract

A creative and stimulating learning environment plays an important role in supporting early childhood development, particularly fine motor skills. One innovative learning environment that can be implemented is Kids Art Space, a specially designed art space that provides children with safe, enjoyable, and meaningful learning experiences through art activities. This study aims to describe the implementation of Kids Art Space as an innovative learning environment in supporting the development of fine motor skills in early childhood. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving early childhood participants who took part in Kids Art Space activities, with parents serving as companions and supporting informants. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and activity reflection. The results indicate that the implementation of Kids Art Space effectively enhances children’s fine motor skills through various art activities such as sticking, painting, color mixing, and tap-tap plastic activities that involve hand–eye coordination. In addition, Kids Art Space positively influences children’s focus, enthusiasm, independence, and self-confidence during the learning process. Therefore, Kids Art Space can be considered an innovative and effective learning environment that supports fine motor development in early childhood through creative and interactive learning experiences.
