Abstract

Welding is a high-risk job due to involving heat and electricity. To ensure the safety of workers at CV. Bengkel Las Adi Jaya, it is crucial to pay attention to the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), the implementation of Welding Procedure Standard (WPS), Behavior Based Safety (BBS), and the competence of welders. This study aims to determine the correlation between the effectiveness of using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Welding Procedure Standard (WPS) specifications, Behavior Based Safety (BBS), and welder competence with the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in the welding process at Bengkel Las Adi Jaya. This is a quantitative analytical method with a cross-sectional design. The results showed a significant correlation between the effectiveness of using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) with a p-value of 0.041, the implementation of WPS with compliance with OSH practices with a p-value of 0.000, and Welder Competence with a p-value of 0.039. However, no significant relationship was found between behavior-based safety (BBS) and OSH compliance. This study highlights the important role of technical factors such as PPE, WPS, and Welder Competence in ensuring workplace safety. This study recommends increasing the use of PPE, strict adherence to WPS, and continuous skill improvement for welders to create a safer working environment

Abstract

The development of the food processing industry, particularly in tofu factories, faces challenges in enhancing productivity through time efficiency, equipment, and labor. A key factor is the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) to ensure the comfort and safety of workers, thus maximizing product output. Potential hazards in the workplace, such as those in Tofu Makmur Factory, can arise from physical, chemical, ergonomic, and psychological factors. The aim of this community service is to enhance the knowledge of owners and workers regarding potential hazards and their control measures. The method used involves providing outreach to workers, covering material on hazard identification and risk control through the distribution of leaflets.The results of this activity indicate that education on the importance of recognizing potential hazards and applying the principles of the Hierarchy of Control is effective in raising OSH awareness in the factory. Recommendations for further implementation include strengthening OSH practices with regular training and routine evaluations of working conditions to prevent accidents and occupational diseases. Abstrak Perkembangan industri pengolahan makanan, khususnya pabrik tahu, menghadapi tantangan dalam meningkatkan produktivitas melalui efisiensi waktu, peralatan, dan tenaga kerja. Salah satu faktor kunci adalah penerapan Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja (K3) untuk menjamin kenyamanan serta keselamatan pekerja, sehingga produk yang dihasilkan maksimal. Potensi bahaya di lingkungan kerja, seperti di Pabrik Tahu Makmur, dapat muncul dari faktor fisik, kimia, ergonomi, dan psikologi. Tujuan dari pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan pemilik dan pekerja mengenai potensi bahaya serta cara pengendaliannya. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan kepada pekerja, dengan materi yang mencakup identifikasi bahaya dan pengendalian risiko melalui penyebaran leaflet. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa edukasi tentang pentingnya mengenali potensi bahaya dan penerapan prinsip Hierarchy of Control efektif dalam meningkatkan kesadaran K3 di pabrik. Saran untuk implementasi lebih lanjut adalah memperkuat penerapan K3 dengan pelatihan berkala dan evaluasi rutin terhadap kondisi kerja, guna mencegah kecelakaan dan penyakit akibat kerja.

Abstract

The training on the use of Light Fire Extinguishers (APAR) for workers at the Surya Tofu Factory aimed to enhance awareness, understanding, and skills in responding to fire emergency situations. The study revealed that prior to the training, most workers had limited knowledge regarding the functions, types, and proper use of fire extinguishers due to the lack of attention to occupational safety in small-scale enterprises. Through educational outreach based on the fire triangle theory, live demonstrations, and the diffusion of science and technology, the training effectively improved the workers’ capacity to identify fire types and operate APARs in accordance with procedures. The method used in this community service activity was counseling to the owner and workers at the Surya tofu factory, with a total of 8 participants. The material presented included education on the use of light fire extinguishers (apar) as a means of fire prevention at the Surya Tofu Factory. This activity applied community education and science and technology diffusion methods for the workers. Post-training evaluations showed a significant increase in theoretical knowledge and practical skills among participants. Furthermore, this program contributed to a more practical safety culture within the micro- enterprise environment. Nevertheless, challenges remain, particularly regarding the sustainability of the training, availability of equipment, and funding for safety tools. Therefore, collaboration among business owners, workers, and external stakeholders is essential to integrate safety training as a routine part of business operations. Abstrak Pelatihan penggunaan Alat Pemadam Api Ringan (APAR) bagi pekerja Pabrik Tahu Surya bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran, pemahaman, serta keterampilan dalam merespons keadaan darurat kebakaran. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa sebelum pelatihan, sebagian besar pekerja memiliki tingkat pemahaman yang rendah terhadap fungsi, jenis, dan cara penggunaan APAR akibat minimnya perhatian terhadap aspek keselamatan kerja di lingkungan usaha kecil. Melalui pendekatan penyuluhan berbasis teori segitiga api, demonstrasi langsung, serta difusi ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi, pelatihan berhasil meningkatkan kapasitas pekerja dalam mengidentifikasi jenis kebakaran dan mengoperasikan APAR sesuai prosedur. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah penyuluhan kepada pemilik beserta pekerja di pabrik tahu surya dengan total jumlah 8 peserta, dengan materi yang dipaparkan yaitu edukasi penggunaan alat pemadam api ringan (APAR) dalam pencegahan kebakaran di pabrik tahu surya yang menggunakan metode pendidikan masyarakat dan difusi IPTEK  kepada pekerja. Evaluasi pasca pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan teoritis dan keterampilan praktik peserta. Lebih jauh, pelatihan ini turut mendorong terbentuknya budaya keselamatan kerja yang lebih aplikatif di lingkungan UMKM. Meskipun demikian, tantangan tetap muncul, terutama terkait keberlanjutan pelatihan, ketersediaan fasilitas, dan pembiayaan perlengkapan keselamatan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan kolaborasi antara pemilik usaha, pekerja, dan pihak eksternal untuk mengintegrasikan pelatihan keselamatan sebagai bagian dari operasional rutin perusahaan.
