Abstract

Windlass machine is a tool on a ship that is used to pull and lower anchors and is usually also used to moor ropes when the ship is docked at the dock. In its operation, this windlass machine consists of an anchor, anchor chain, windlass, hydraulic pump, electric motor. The hydraulic pump functions to convert mechanical energy into hydraulic energy by pressing the hydraulic fluid in the system to drive the main shaft of the anchor machine, to make it easier for the crew to lego and hibob anchors. If in a less than optimal condition, it will disrupt the performance of the windlass and cause damage and shorten the service life. This happens because there is no maintenance and repair to avoid damage, especially to the hydraulic pump. This study aims to ensure that the performance of the windlass in its supervision and operation remains optimal in ship service.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi penyebab kerusakan ring piston pada mesin bantu kapal MV. FATIME serta langkah-langkah pencegahan yang dilakukan. Dalam era kemajuan teknologi yang pesat dan persaingan bisnis yang ketat, transportasi laut menjadi pilihan utama untuk mendukung kelancaran operasional. Mesin diesel kapal, terutama bagian ring piston, memerlukan perawatan berkala guna menjaga kompresi ruang bakar dan mencegah kebocoran gas pembakaran. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, meliputi observasi, wawancara dengan masinis dan kru kapal, serta dokumentasi teknis selama praktik laut di MV. FATIME. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara deskriptif untuk memberikan gambaran mengenai permasalahan yang ada. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa patahnya ring kompresi dan korosi pada ring oli menjadi penyebab utama kerusakan ring piston pada mesin bantu kapal tersebut. Untuk mengatasi kerusakan, dilakukan penggantian ring piston dan pembersihan komponen terkait, sehingga diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kinerja mesin dan mencegah kerusakan serupa di masa mendatang.

Abstract

 This research aimed at investigating the effectiveness of the implementation of COSWP towards the engine crew and finding out the better recommendation to increase the implementation for future needs. The research applied mixed-method research which combined between qualitative and quantitative approach. The data collected using questionnaires and an in-depth interview to engine crews at MV. Sultan Hasanuddin. Then, the data questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS and the interview data were interpreted using three steps, they were transcribing data, data reduce and data interpretation. The results of the research revealed that the mean score was 27,20 with standard deviation of 3.795. This data showed the implementation of COSWP in MV. Sultan Hasanuddin was in very effective condition. There were recommendations given by the sample of the research such as integration of COSWP to the Safety Management System (SMS) or International Safety Management (ISM) Code, training of Maritime Resource Management (MRM) and Non-Technical, internal auditory and regular evaluation, effective communication, and digital development management.

Abstract

The shipping industry plays a vital role in supporting passenger mobility and goods distribution in Indonesia. However, one of the challenges faced is the management of crew working hours and rest periods, particularly in relation to shore leave activities. This study aims to analyze the effect of crew shore leave on the effectiveness of watchkeeping duties on passenger ships and the impact of crew shore leave on the readiness and performance of watchkeeping crews. The research method used is a quantitative approach with an instrument in the form of a questionnaire distributed to 35 passenger ship crew members on duty at PT Pelni Makassar. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, regression tests, and ANOVA. The results of the study indicate that shore leave crew has a significant effect on the quality of watchkeeping, particularly in terms of physical readiness, mental readiness, and reduction of fatigue risk. These findings emphasize the importance of good shore leave schedule management to support shipping safety.
