Abstract

This research examines paragraph development patterns in the text of the July 2001 edition of Neotech Magazine using qualitative descriptive methods. Data was obtained through documentation studies and note-taking techniques, with a focus on analyzing the structure and linguistic elements of paragraphs. The research results identified five dominant paragraph development patterns: chronology, illustration, definition, comparison, and cause and effect. The chronology pattern is used to show the time sequence in technological development, the illustration pattern provides a concrete picture of technological concepts, the definition pattern explains technical terms, the comparison pattern contrasts various technologies, and the cause-and-effect pattern explains causal relationships in technological development. The use of these patterns helps writers convey technology information effectively to readers, with each pattern having a specific function in increasing reader understanding. This research contributes to the development of more effective technology text writing strategies and can be used as a reference in technology journalistic writing.

Abstract

This research explores the concept of ethnomathematics in the ayunan jantra culture in Majalangu Village, Denpasar, Bali. Using an ethnographic approach, this research identifies the mathematical elements contained in the making, structure and use of the jantJra swing. The research was conducted through observation, interviews and documentation when the ayunan jantra was used at a Balinese traditional ceremony. The interview was conducted with Mr. I Made Semara Putra, the manager of the Subak TeBA Majalangu Educational Tourism foundation, Denpasar, Bali. Swing jantra has a philosophy about the values of life, namely the rotation of destiny that we do not know, but must be ready to live it. The main findings of this research are the application of the concepts of geometry, proportion and oscillation in the making and operation of the ayunan jantra. From the geometry aspect, the swing structure includes the position of the support, rotating shaft, and arms that refer to the principles of symmetry and balance. In addition, the measurement of the dimensions of the arms and stand shows the application of the concepts of proportion and comparison. The use of the ayunan jantra also involves the concept of oscillation where the rotating movement resembles harmonic oscillation. This research reveals that Balinese people have intuitively integrated mathematical concepts into their cultural traditions. The findings from this study offer new insights into the relationship between cultural traditions and mathematics learning that could contribute to developing ethnomathematics-based learning in schools. This research is expected to enrich culture-based mathematics learning methods and preserve the local wisdom of the Balinese people.

Abstract

The problem of selecting laptops that match user needs often becomes a challenge for many users, especially for those who are less familiar with technical specifications. To address this problem, this research develops a Natural Language Processing (NLP)-based chatbot application capable of providing automatic laptop recommendations based on user needs. This application implements the TF-IDF algorithm to extract features from user input in natural language, then calculates cosine similarity with laptop specification datasets stored in a MySQL database to generate the most relevant recommendations. The results of black box testing show that the system is capable of providing recommendations with a precision rate of 87.5%, recall of 83.2%, and F1-score of 85.3% in understanding user preferences based on criteria such as price range, weight, and usage type. This research contributes to the development of NLP-based chatbot technology by integrating the TF-IDF approach for more accurate natural language understanding compared to conventional rule-based chatbots, as well as providing interactive solutions that facilitate ordinary users in obtaining laptop recommendations without requiring in-depth technical knowledge.

Abstract

The students’ mathematical literacy skills tend to be influenced by their self-regulated learning. This study aims to analyse mathematical literacy skills based on students' self-regulated learning. The research method used was descriptive-qualitative, involving 40 students from one of the Islamic junior high schools in Bandung Barat, West Java. The instruments used were a PISA-like mathematical literacy problem and a self-regulated learning questionnaire. The data analysis technique used was the Miles and Huberman model. This model uses data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students with high and medium level of self-regulated learning had given correct and careful answers related to managing storage on smartphones, but the students with a moderate level of self-regulated learning were careless in performing calculations. While, students with a low level of self-regulated learning have been able to understand the problem carefully, even though they have difficulty finding the right answer. This reseach can be used as one of basis for developing more effective learning strategies that support the improvement of mathematical literacy through empowering self-regulated learning.
