Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze student errors in solving straight line equations material problems through the Kastolan stages. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique was done by giving straight-line equation questions to students which were then analyzed for their answers to describe their errors based on the Kastolan stages. This research was conducted at one of the State MTs in Karawang in the 2020-2021 academic year. The subjects were 10 grade IX students. The results of the analysis of student answers obtained that there are 44% errors occur in conceptual errors, 73% errors in procedural errors, and 36.67% errors in technical errors. The factors that became the error were (1) not understanding the concept of solving problems, (2) the lack of students' ability to operate arithmetic operations, and (3) students getting used to working on questions that matched with the examples.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to show how students of class VII with low, medium, and high ability levels apply their critical thinking skills. They will also see mistakes made when solving problems with single variable linear equations. This study used tests and was carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner. The sample taken was 32 class VII students of SMP PGRI 1 Padalarang, pupils in junior high school in West Bandung Regency. The results of the three essay-based tests reveal that class VII-C junior high school students can think critically about one-variable linear equations; notably, the boys scored only 45% on the test, while the girls scored 71% out of 32 students.

Abstract

This study aims to be able to analyze the difficulties of Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri in solving statistical questions. The method used is the case study method. The data used are written tests and interviews. The population and sample in this study were 32 students. The instrument of this study used a questionnaire, namely 6 questions related to statistical questions. Data processing is used by means of written tests and pictures of student answers. The research procedure is the stages of planning, operating, data analysis, and concluding a data. The research will be tested with a number of statistical questions at the application and testing stages, then interviews will be given to several students. The results of the analysis show several criteria based on students' ability to solve statistical problems. Students with high abilities have difficulty in determining the final answer. Students with moderate ability levels experience difficulties in calculating an answer. Students with low ability levels have difficulty understanding the questions given and lack understanding of the material.

Abstract

This research aims to see whether there is an increase in students' mathematical communication skills after being given learning using the discovery learning model. This research was carried out at MTsN 04 KBB in class VIII with a total of 20 students. The learning instruments and tools used are Pretest and Posttest questions as well as LKPD which contains material regarding circles and stages of discovery learning. The results of the data obtained will be analyzed and managed using 2 dependent sample analysis using a normality test first and followed by a paired t-test. The results of the analysis test show that there are significant differences and there are differences in the average results of the pre-test and post-test, and at the end it is shown that students' mathematical communication skills have increased.

Abstract

This research aims to examine improving the mathematical problem solving abilities of Class VIII Middle School students using models Discovery Learning application assisted geogebra and ordinary learning models. The research method used is an experimental method with design as if experimental which involved two groups, namely the experimental class and the control class All 8th grade students in SMP Negeri 2 Cimahi became the population in this study. The samples used were class VIII-H as the experimental class and class VIII-G as the control class.  The data collection technique in this research uses instruments regarding mathematical problem solving abilities which are given twice, namely at time pretest and posttest. Data processing and analysis using applications Microsoft Excel and software SPSS 26. The results of this research show that the mathematical problem solving abilities of Class VIII Middle School students who learn using models increase Discovery Learning application assisted geogebra better than those using conventional learning.

Abstract

Problem-solving skills are highly important in various aspects of life and professions, particularly in mathematics education. However, many students struggle to develop these skills due to a lack of understanding, critical thinking abilities, practice, and motivation. To address this, educators need to adopt teaching strategies that strengthen students' problem-solving skills. One effective approach is the scientific learning model, which emphasizes the scientific process, critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world applications. This study aims to assess the improvement of seventh-grade students' mathematical problem-solving skills using the scientific learning model. The research utilizes a descriptive quantitative approach with a two-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consists of seventh-grade students from an Islamic Junior High School, and data collection includes pretest and posttest questions. The N-gain formula is used to measure improvement. The findings indicate a significant improvement in problem-solving abilities among students who receive instruction using the scientific learning model compared to those who do not. The improvement is categorized as moderate in the experimental class, while the control class shows a lower level of improvement. Factors such as students' enthusiasm, implementation of real-life problems, and increased independence contribute to the improvement in students' problem-solving abilities. The implementation of the scientific learning model significantly enhances students' mathematical problem-solving skills. Based on the field findings, there is a need for improvement in soft skills to support meaningful learning activities.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of creative mathematical thinking skills for students studying mathematics. This study aims to analyze students' mathematical creative thinking skills in terms of gender. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. The population in this study was 20 grade IX students of SMP Negeri 2 Cimahi who were used as a sample, consisting of 10 male students and 10 female students who were randomly selected. The instrument used in this study is to provide four mathematical creative thinking questions consisting of indicators of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The data in this study were analyzed using the value of the percentage of students who had done mathematical creative thinking problems that had been given and then compared based on gender. The results of the research that has been conducted revealed that overall, the ability of female students to think creatively mathematically is valued higher than the ability of male students to think creatively mathematically. This can be seen in terms of the proportion of overall value or certain aspects. Regarding fluency, male students score higher than female students, while female students score higher on flexibility, originality, and elaboration. It can be concluded that gender can affect students' ability to creative mathematical thinking skills.
