Abstract

In Javanese society, transitional ceremonies are carried out in the event of birth, marriage, and death. This paper will lift the ceremony that is included in the birth event. Tingkeban is a monthly even-day ceremony performed by pregnant women. The series of these ceremonies include flushing and slametan. In slametan ceremony contained meaning in symbols in the form of symbols, symbol functions and symbol meanings, this is the object of the author's research to describe the shape of the symbol, the function of the symbol and the meaning of the symbol in the Tingkeban ceremony procedure. This research uses qualitative research methods that are descriptive by collecting data through observation and interviews. Informants both involved and who are considered to understand about the tradition, namely public figures and books that support this research as a source of data. This observation was made on the value of symbolism in the form, meaning, and function of each procession or equipment in the community in Sidodadi District Beringin Lubuk Pakam, so that the values of symbolism were found to be the material of research. In this study used the approach of Clifford Geertz Theory. In addition, it also uses research on the value of the study of symbolism. The results of this study have three types based on its purpose, namely judging from the form of traditional ceremonies performed by someone who is blessed with a baby in his womb that is already seven months old. The study of symbolism of tingkeban procedures in the Javanese sidodadi community of Beringin Lubuk Pakam subdistrict includes 1) Description of the shape of the symbol, 2) description of the meaning of the symbol, and 3) description of the function of the symbol. Based on the above research, it is expected that researchers can further develop research on the procedure of tingkeban (seven months pregnant), using an approach so as to find new things that are interesting. For the world of education, it is hoped that the results of the research can contribute ideas to the understanding of literary works, especially those related to the teaching of literature and culture, and also the procedures for ceremonial processions for people who are seven months pregnant. In addition, it can be used as an encouragement for students and students to pay more attention to the study of symbolism in traditions or ceremonies in society. Keywords: Symbolic Meaning, Tradition, Javanese Tingkeban

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan tingkat pengaruh tanda baca terhadap keterampilan menulis teks narasi oleh siswa SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungabalai. Alat pengumpul data adalah angket berupa tes penguasaan tanda baca dan tes keterampilan menulis teks narasi yang ditujukan kepada siswa kelas VII. Teknik pengolahan data yang penulis gunakan dalam pengolahan data adalah menggunakan korelasi product moment. Maka diperoleh Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan di atas menunjukkan bahwa besarnya nilai r ( hitung ) adalah 0,845 sedangkan besarnya nilai r (tabel) adalah 0, 279 (untuk N = 50 dan taraf signifikan 5 %), ada pengaruh antara penguasaan tanda baca terhadap keterampilan menulis teks narasi oleh siswa kelas Kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungbalai, sebab r (hitung) > r (tabel), atau 0,845 > 0,279.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of code switching and code mixing of Javanese and Indonesian languages in the interaction of residents of NamoBintangDusu II Sumberingin Village. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subject of this research is the interaction of the residents of NamoBintang Village. The method of data collection was done by recording, question and answer, and note-taking techniques. The results of the study indicate the cause of the use of Javanese language more often and find out the form of code switching and code mixing conversations which include: internal code switching, external code switching, temporary code switching, and permanent code switching as well as the form of terms in Javanese which include: klotekkan, sengenge , nimble, sluggish, pententengan, and mayeng-mayeng.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang Tindak Tutur Ilokusi pada Interaksi Jual Beli di panglong UD Selamat Jaya. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Data dianalisis dengan menerapkan teori pragmatik tentang tindak tutur yang dikemukakan oleh Austin dan pola pasangan Berdampingan / Bersesuaian oleh Coulthard. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa interaksi tawar-menawar di panglong Selamat Jaya adalah tindak tutur ilokusi (Asertif, direktif, ekspresif, komisif, dan deklarasi) . Tindak tutur yang paling dominan adalah tindak asertif (menginformasikan/memberitahukan), direktif (meminta), Eksprensif (terima kasih), komisif (menyetujui), deklaratif (memutuskan). Suatu percakapan juga mempunyai struktur yang dibatasi dengan pola pasangan berdampingan/ bersesuaian. Ditemukan ada delapan pola pasangan berdampingan/bersesuaian yang terdapat dalam interaksi tawar-menawar di panglong Selamat Jaya, antara lain (1) pola sapaan-sapaan, (2) pola panggilanjawaban, (3) pola permintaan informasi-pemberian, (4) pola keluhan-mengakui, (5) pola permintaan-pemersilakan, (6) pola penawaran-penerimaan, (7) pola penawaran-penolakan (8) pola pertanyaan-jawaban. Struktur percakapan yang dijumpai di panglong selamat jaya memiliki gangguan.

Abstract

This study analyzes the violation of politeness maxims in 15 TikTok “POV Gen Z” contents themed around teachers and examines their implications for students of Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI) at Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah Medan. The research focuses on identifying the most frequent types of violations and their social as well as academic impacts. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation of 15 TikTok videos with the hashtag “POV Gen Z as a teacher” and in-depth interviews with PBSI students active on TikTok. Participants were selected based on follower count and level of engagement, while the research was conducted in classrooms and the university library. Findings revealed 24 cases of politeness maxim violations: tact (11), agreement (6), generosity (2), approbation (1), modesty (2), and sympathy (2). The language in these contents was largely informal and disparaging, albeit presented humorously, reflecting Gen Z’s expressive communication style driven by virality, self-expression, and social critique. Implications for PBSI students were significant, with perceptions ranging from viewing the violations as creativity to concerns about their impact on teacher image and language norms. Despite diverse views, most students emphasized the importance of politeness principles in formal contexts. This study contributes to politeness theory in social media discourse and supports the development of digital literacy.

Abstract

Abstract South Tapanuli is one of the Regencies in North Sumatra Province. Ethnicity from this district is called the Mandailing Batak ethnic group, which has various customary activities. Horja godang is a traditional wedding ceremony ceremony for the people of South Tapanuli, where art activities are included (margondang) accompanied by manortor (dancing). Tortor who danced in this activity there are several stages, namely tortor Suhut Bolon, Tortor Kahanggi, Tortor Anak Boru, Tortor Kings of Torbing Balok, Tortor Panusunan Bulung, Tortor Naposo Nauli Bulung, and Tortor Manora Pule. In the presentation, the panor is determined by the kinship system (transfer of natolu) including the order of tortor that must be done. The research method used is a qualitative method. The form of presentation in writing is descriptive analytic. Using this method the results of the research will be described and analyzed with a primary focus on the cultural and social fields. The results of this study are to find out how the procedures for organizing a party for the community of tailings with the customs that apply in the area.  Keywords: Custom, Party, Horja

Abstract

Politeness in language is essential for fostering respectful communication and social harmony, particularly within cultural and religious contexts, yet its role in Islamic education remains underexplored. This study examines how the Mandailing Onang-Onang oral tradition encapsulates linguistic politeness strategies that reflect Islamic values and explores its potential contribution to Islamic education. Employing a qualitative ethnographic approach, the research utilizes participant observation, in-depth interviews with cultural practitioners, and analysis of recorded Onang-Onang performances framed through Brown and Levinson's politeness theory. The findings reveal that Onang-Onang employs key politeness strategies, such as indirectness, honorifics, and metaphorical expressions, which align with Islamic ethical principles of morality (akhlaq) and etiquette (adab). Furthermore, the study underscores the role of Onang-Onang in reinforcing communal ties and transmitting religious teachings. Integrating Onang-Onang into Islamic educational frameworks can enrich moral instruction, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen learners' understanding of Islamic values, demonstrating its relevance in contemporary pedagogical settings.
