Abstract

Health problems that are currently a global concern that generally occur in developing and developed countries are overweight due to their relationship to complications of degenerative diseases, one of which is hypertension. Individuals with abnormal BMI and waist circumference are more likely to experience hypertension compared to those with normal BMI and waist circumference. As a predictor of hypertension in adulthood, blood pressure levels in adolescence are more reliable than in childhood. This study was conducted to determine the picture of blood pressure in adolescents with overweight status at SMP Negeri 13 Semarang City. This study was cross-sectional and conducted with a quantitative descriptive approach. The selection of respondents using the purposive sampling method and met the research inclusion criteria, and were willing to become respondents by filling out informed consent. A total of 34 respondents were measured for weight, height, waist circumference and blood pressure. In this study, the dominant respondents who experienced overweight were aged 12 to 14 years. The nutritional status of respondents according to the BMI/U z-score standard showed that they were included in the obesity category, which was 21 people and 17 people suffered from hypertension. Meanwhile, the results of measuring waist circumference revealed that 34 respondents were classified as obese and 30 people suffered from hypertension (88.23%), while 4 other people were included in the normal blood pressure category. The problem of excess nutrition in adolescents has an impact on increasing blood pressure (hypertension). A person who is obese based on the results of waist circumference measurements and/or based on the BMI/U z-score is more likely to experience hypertension.

Data from the Semarang City Health Office in 2023 showed a stunting prevalence of 1.1% (872 toddlers). The problem of stunting in toddlers can occur due to a lack of nutritional intake. Community service activities were carried out by two partners Posyandu Delima cadres and toddlers in the Delima Posyandu in the Kedungmundu Health Center working area of Semarang City. The partner's problem was in the provision of complementary feeding to toddlers, which still did not meet the nutritional needs of each toddler age group and the texture was not appropriate. To help prevent stunting in toddlers by improving public health through innovative processing of functional complementary foods based on local foods in Semarang City. Counseling and education activities, practical skills training in making functional complementary foods based on local foods, as well as providing complementary foods that have been adjusted to the AKG based on age groups, and providing media in the form of leaflets, handbooks for cadres, and posters. There was an increase in knowledge as evidenced by the increase in pretest and posttest scores for the three activities, namely the average pretest score was 57.75 and increased by 41.39% to an average score of 81.78 after the activity was completed, with a significance value of <0.05, which means there was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest. Community service activities can improve the knowledge and skills of all Posyandu cadres and can provide changes in the consumption patterns of complementary feeding given to all toddlers at Posyandu. Keywords: Posyandu Cadres, MP-ASI, Functional Food, Empowerment, Stunting

Abstract

Preschool-aged children need knowledge and support from the family to get used to a healthy lifestyle. Several studies have found that many children don't know how to wash their hands properly, brush their teeth properly, don't like eating vegetables and drinking water and don't get enough sleep. This community service practice aims to familiarize children with healthy lifestyle patterns such as washing their hands and brushing their teeth properly, eating vegetables and drinking water and sleeping healthily. Activities were carried out in Semarang, Central Java in February and March 2023 and were attended by 44 preschool children and 27 parents. Activities carried out include lectures, discussions, questions and answers, singing, demonstrations and simulations with children as well as counseling activities for parents by pediatric nurses, nutritionists and psychologists. The PkM results show that there is an increase in healthy lifestyle habits in hand washing habits, tooth brushing habits, healthy sleeping habits and limiting the use of cellphones. Apart from that, parents stated that the counseling provided was very useful. This PkM activity can provide a reference for methods for improving healthy lifestyles in preschool children.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an escalating global health issue, characterised by its increasing prevalence and the significant complications it entails. Effective management of blood glucose levels is a critical component in preventing DM-related complications. This study aims to analyse the health profiles of elderly individuals based on Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, and blood glucose levels. An observational cross-sectional design was employed, involving data collection at a single point in time to identify relationships between variables. The sample consisted of 120 respondents aged 60 and above residing in the Puskesmas Kagok area. Purposive sampling was utilised to select respondents based on inclusion criteria, specifically targeting elderly individuals willing to participate and without any medical conditions necessitating specialised care. The data revealed that the average BMI of respondents was 25.3, with 25% classified as normal weight, 50% as overweight, and 25% as obese. In terms of blood pressure, 58.33% of respondents were found to be hypertensive, while 41.67% were within the normal range. Additionally, the average random blood glucose level was 205 mg/dL, with 33.33% of respondents exhibiting glucose levels ≥ 200 mg/dL, indicating a high risk of diabetes. Demographic characteristics indicated that 66.7% of respondents were female, and 75% had been diagnosed with diabetes for over five years. Educational attainment varied, with 51.6% having completed secondary education and 31.7% possessing higher education qualifications. Notably, 46.6% of respondents were not engaged in employment. These findings highlight a high prevalence of overweight, hypertension, and elevated blood glucose levels among the elderly population in the Puskesmas Kagok area, underscoring the necessity for preventative measures and management of non-communicable diseases within this age group. It is anticipated that this research will provide valuable insights for the development of health programmes tailored to the needs of the elderly.
