Abstract

Riau is home to a wealth of genetic resources distributed across various regions, including local banana varieties found in Indragiri Hulu. A study titled "Morphological Characteristics of Four Types of Bananas (Mussa spp)" was conducted from September to November 2023 to explore the morphological traits and shelf life of these local bananas. The study involved designing research parameters, collecting data through field identifications and observations, and analyzing the data using the STAR and DMRT applications at a 5% significance level. Kinship relationships were assessed using the MVSP 32 application with the UPGMA method, analyzed through NTSys-pc 2.1 software, with results presented in a dendrogram format. The study observed nine qualitative and eight quantitative morphological characteristics. The dendrogram revealed that the four local banana varieties from Indragiri Hulu could be grouped into two main clusters. The first group includes Banten, Kepok, and Lilin bananas, displaying a 50% similarity based on traits such as fruit shape, cross-section, and skin color before and after ripening. The second group consists of a single variety: Kepok bananas. Notably, Kepok and Banten bananas exhibited closer similarities based on characteristics such as fruit weight per fruit, the number of fruits per bunch, and fruit length. Overall, these four banana types exhibit diversity in traits related to the number of fruits per bunch and the thickness of the fruit skin.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the interaction of Moringa leaf POC concentration and type of growing media on the growth and yield of romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. longifolia) using NFT hydroponics. This research was conducted at the Greenhouse of Riau Islamic University's UPT from December 2023 to February 2024. This research used a Divided Plot Design (RPT) in RAL. The first factor was the concentration of liquid organic fertilizer from Moringa leaves (D), with four treatment levels: 200 ppm, 400 ppm, 600 ppm, and 800 ppm. The second factor was the growing medium, with four treatment levels: rockwool, cocopeat, husk charcoal, and wood biochar. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, chlorophyll content, plant fresh weight, root volume, plant dry weight, and root-shoot ratio. The data were analyzed statistically and followed by the honest real difference test (BNJ) at the 5% level. The research results showed that the interaction between the concentration of liquid organic fertilizer from Moringa leaves and the growing medium was significant for plant height, number of leaves, chlorophyll content, plant fresh weight, root volume, plant dry weight, and root-shoot ratio. All romaine lettuce plant parameters observed in this study yielded the best results at a concentration of 200 ppm liquid organic fertilizer (POC) from Moringa leaves and rockwool growing media.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of cutting scarification and sulfuric acid on the germination of Ajwa date seeds, using a Factorial Completely Randomized Design consisting of two factors. The first factor is cutting scarification, with five levels: without cutting, cutting in the plumule area, cutting in the radicle area, cutting in the plumule and radicle area, and cutting in the embryo area. The second factor is sulfuric acid, with four levels: 0 ml/L, 40 ml/L, 80 ml/L, and 120 ml/L. The parameters observed were germination power, germination time, vigor index, number of leaves, longest leaf length, seedling height, longest root length, fresh weight of seedlings, and dry weight of seedlings. The observation data were analyzed statistically and followed by the Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at the 5% level. The results showed that the interaction between cutting scarification and sulfuric acid significantly affected germination rate, longest leaf length, seedling height, longest root length, and the fresh and dry weight of seedlings, but did not significantly affect germination time, vigor index, or number of leaves. The best treatment was cutting scarification in the embryo area and sulfuric acid at a dose of 120 ml/L (P4A3). The main effect of cutting scarification treatment significantly affected all observation parameters. The best treatment was cutting scarification in the embryo area (P4). The main effect of sulfuric acid concentration significantly affected all parameters. The best treatment was sulfuric acid at a dose of 120 ml/L (A3).

Abstract

The use of POC paitan (Tithonia diversifolia L.) and Gandasil-D fertilizer in the hydroponic cultivation of green mustard greens (Brassica juncea L.) aims to determine the interaction and main effects of the concentration of POC paitan and the dosage of Gandasil-D fertilizer. This research was carried out at the Integrated Experimental Agriculture Unit, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University, Jalan Kasang Kulim Teropong, Kubang Raya Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency. The research was conducted from June to July 2024. The design used in this research was a factorial Split-Plot Design (RPT) with two factors. The first factor is POC paitan, with four treatment levels: 0, 300, 600, and 900 ppm. The second factor is the dose of Gandasil-D fertilizer, with four treatment levels (0, 5, 10, and 15 g/l), resulting in 16 treatment combinations with three replications, meaning there are 48 experimental units. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, economic wet weight, dry weight, root volume, and leaf chlorophyll. The observation data were analyzed statistically, and the BNJ test was performed at the 5% level. The results showed that the interaction and main effects of the POC paitan dose and the Gandasil-D fertilizer dose had a significant impact on plant height, number of leaves, dry weight, root volume, and leaf chlorophyll, but had no significant effect on leaf area and economic wet weight. The best treatment was a combination of POC paitan at 900 ppm and Gandasil-D at 15 g/l.
