Abstract

Manufacturing systems operating under constrained facility layouts often experience inefficiencies such as excessive material handling, long waiting times, and high work-in-process (WIP) inventory. While Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) have been widely applied to improve production efficiency, most existing studies assume high flexibility in machine relocation, which is rarely feasible in real industrial environments. Moreover, the integration of pull-based control systems, such as supermarket material systems, within layout-constrained environments remains underexplored. This study aims to develop an integrated lean framework combining VSM, SLP, and a supermarket-based material control system to improve material flow efficiency without requiring physical layout modification. The research was conducted in the upper assembly line of a sports footwear manufacturing facility. The methodology includes Current Value Stream Mapping (CVSM), Activity Relationship Chart (ARC), Activity Relationship Diagram (ARD), and quantitative material handling analysis. The results show that non-value-added activities dominate 99.76% of total lead time, indicating severe flow inefficiency. The implementation of the supermarket system successfully reduces material handling costs by 29.4%. A paired comparison analysis confirms that the improvement is operationally significant. This study demonstrates that integrating VSM, SLP, and supermarket systems provides a practical and effective approach for improving production efficiency under layout constraints

Abstract

Abstract

Service quality evaluation in tour and travel services requires not only identifying attributes that customers consider important but also understanding how their fulfillment or absence affects customer satisfaction. Although Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA) and the Kano Model have been applied in various service contexts, their combined application to translate customer evaluations into actionable improvement priorities for local tour and travel service providers remains contextually underexplored. This study evaluates service quality improvement priorities at CV Mutiara Katulistiwa using an integrated IPA–Kano approach. A quantitative survey was conducted with 99 customers selected through purposive sampling. Twenty-five service attributes covering tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy were evaluated based on customer importance, perceived performance, and satisfaction characteristics. IPA identified five attributes in the Concentrate Here quadrant, while the Kano Model classified the attributes into Must-be, One-dimensional, and Indifferent categories. The integrated analysis identified on-order service availability and tourism service security as critical mandatory priorities, whereas complaint responsiveness, service information availability, and tour guide competence emerged as performance-improvement priorities. The integrated IPA–Kano approach provides a structured prioritization mechanism that distinguishes attributes requiring immediate corrective action from those that should be maintained or further developed. Rather than proposing a new integration method, this study extends its application to a local tour and travel service context and demonstrates how integrated customer evaluations can be translated into a practical service-improvement roadmap for small service providers.

Abstract

The modern retail sector exposes employees to the risk of musculoskeletal disorders due to non-ergonomic working postures, particularly during repetitive activities such as item scanning, goods lifting, and cashier service. This study aims to analyse employees' working posture conditions at a modern retail store in Bekasi, identify potential contributing factors associated with ergonomic risks, and formulate ergonomic improvement recommendations. A descriptive ergonomic assessment study was conducted using purposive sampling involving cashiers, warehouse staff, and shelf attendants. The study used the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method to assess body segments including the neck, trunk, legs, upper arms, lower arms, and wrists. The assessment results showed a final REBA score of 9, indicating that the observed work activities were categorized as high risk with an action level of 3. The high-risk posture was associated with excessive neck flexion exceeding 20°, trunk bending at 37°, and unacceptable coupling conditions. Repetitive work patterns without adequate job rotation further influenced these conditions. Based on the identified ergonomic risks, recommended improvements include optimizing workplace layout, adjusting work equipment dimensions according to employee anthropometric characteristics, and implementing structured job rotation and rest programs to reduce musculoskeletal disorder risks and improve employee comfort.
