Abstract

Tamarind fruit extract (Tamarindus indica L.) contained flavonoids such as quercetin as antioxidants. The hydrophilic nature of tamarind fruit (Tamarindus indica L.) led to poor penetration and low bioavailability. Research was conducted to address penetration issues by preparing a phytosome drug delivery system incorporated into tamarind fruit extract formulations. The study aimed to formulate a tamarind fruit extract gel with phytosome preparation to enhance the effectiveness of active ingredient penetration. Phytosome preparation was carried out using the thin layer hydration method with concentrations of 1.5%, 3%, and 4.5%. Evaluation of the gel preparations showed that the color of FI (1.5%) was yellowish-brown, F2 (3%) was light brown, and F3 (4.5%) was dark brown. All formulations had a distinctive odor, pH ranged from 4.3 to 5.2, viscosity ranged from 4,333 to 7,500 cPs, spreadability ranged from 5.2 to 5.8 cm, and they had good stability, were homogeneous, and did not cause irritation. Penetration tests using Franz diffusion cells were performed on male rabbit skin (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The penetration results were analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with a maximum wavelength of 435 nm. The cumulative amount penetrated was 13.2085 ppm for F1 (1.5%), 14.2142 ppm for F2 (3%), and 15.5136 ppm for F3 (4.5%). In contrast, the tamarind fruit extract gel without phytosomes had a cumulative penetration amount of 1.3684 ppm. The tamarind fruit extract's phytosome gel showed better penetration than the tamarind fruit extract gel without phytosomes.

Abstract

Empowering the community using one of the cooking spices to become something which has high selling power because of its effectiveness will increase people's enthusiasm for using it. Tamarind fruit has bioactive compounds which often used as natural antioxidants and will be made into phytosome system gel preparations which can improve better penetration of drugs into the skin. The aim of this service was that the community is expected to provide education about tamarind fruit in Klambir V Village, Medan, Indonesia. This community service method was carried out using leaflets, modules, power points and presentations to the community. The result of this service was an increase in public knowledge of tamarind fruit as an antioxidant by 87%.

Abstract

Anthocyanin is one of the chemical compounds contained in read spinach leaf (Amaranthus tricolor L.) and plays an important role in providing color. The red spinach leaf ethanol extract is very well used as a natural dye in eye shadow cream preparations. The purpose of this study was to formulate eye shadow cream preparations using ethanol extract of red spinach leaves as a dye, find out whether the preparation of eye shadow cream with ethanol extract of red spinach leaves meets the quality requirements and evaluate the irritation test on the skin. The eye shadow cream was formulated using talc, titanium dioxide, beeswax, Na2EDTA, glycerin, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, parfum, and paraffin liq with varying concentrations of ethanol extract of red spinach leaf ethanol extract 0%, 6%, 10%, and 14%. Physical quality examination includes organoleptic test, homogeneity test, smear test, cream type test, spreadability tes, pH test, viscosity test, stability test and irritation test and preference test for eye shadow cream preparations. The results of research conducted at a concentration of 0% gave a white color, a concentration of 6% gave a pink color, a concentration of 10% gave a light pink color, and a concentration of 14% gave a deep pink color. The conclusion of this study is ethanol extract of red spinach leaves can be used as a colorant in eye shadow cream preparations, meets the quality requirements of the preparation and does not cause irritation when used.

Abstract

Imunitas atau daya tahan tubuh merupakan sistem kekebalan tubuh yang dirancang untuk mendeteksi ataupun menghancurkan benda asing yang masuk ke tubuh seperti bakteri atau virus. Masa pandemi sekarang ini mengharuskan kita untuk selalu meningkatkan imunitas agar tidak mudah terpapar penyakit khususnya COVID-19. Ada banyak cara yang bisa kita lakukan untuk meningkatkan imunitas, yaitu dengan menerapkan pola hidup sehat. Salah-satunya yaitu dengan mengonsumsi Obat Tradisional. Kepercayaan masyarakat pada penggunaan Obat Tradisional semakin meningkat dimasa pandemi terlebih untuk meningkatkan imunitas tubuh agar tidak mudah terserang penyakit. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui seberapa tinggi tingkat kepercayaan masyarakat Kelurahan Dwi Kora terhadap obat tradisional sebagai pencegah COVID-19.  Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kombinasi(Mix Method). Metode kombinasi pada penelitian ini adalah Eksploratoris Sekuensial. Teknik pengambilan sampel diambil secara Purposive Sampling dengan menggunaan rumus Slovin. Populasi penelitian adalah masyarakat Kelurahan Dwi Kora sebanyak 24.522 jiwa dengan jumlah sampel berdasarkan hasil perhitungan Slovin sebanyak 100 responden. Hasil menunjukkan jenis kelamin mayoritas responden yaitu perempuan (59%). Umur mayoritas responden pada umur dewasa Akhir (71%) dan mayoritas pekerjaan responden yaitu tidak bekerja (77%). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat percaya bahwa obat tradisional dapat meningkatkan imunitas (60%) sebagai pencegah COVID-19. Jamu yang banyak dikonsumsi oleh masyarakat Kelurahan Dwi Kora yaitu Temulawak (17%). Sumber perolehan obat tradisonal berasal dari penjual Jamu gendong (55%). Frekuensi masyarakat yang mengonsumsi Obat Tradisinal(60%). Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan status imunitas tubuh tidak pernah mengalami efek samping (60%) setelah mengonsumsi obat tradisional. Saran dari Peneliti kepada pihak puskesmas dan pemerintah dapat dilakukan penyuluhan tentang pengetahuan dan edukasi mengenai Obat Tradisional. Bagi pelaku usaha Obat Tradisional dapat menjadi masukan dalam mengembangkan usaha kecil Obat Tradisional. Bagi Universitas dapat dilakukan sosialisasi  dan  penyuluhan tentang obat tradisional kepada masyarakat. Bagi peneliti selanjutnya diharapkan dapat melakukan penelitian lanjutan kepada kelompok lain atau pada tempat yang berbeda dari penelitian yang sudah dilakukan ini.

Abstract

Background: Vernonia amygdalina Del. Isaplant from the Asteraceae family is a small shrub with dark green leaves and leathery bark that grows predominantly in Africa. This plant contains steroidgly cosides, such: as Vernodalin, Vernolide, Vernolepin, Vernomenin, Vernomydin, Vernodalol, Hydroxylvernolide,11,13-dihydroxylvernodalin, 4,15-dihydrovernodalin, 1,2,3,15,11,13,2’,3’, hexahydrovernodalin, dan 1,2,3,15,11,13,2’,3’-octahydro vernodalin. Sesquiterpene Lakton in African leaves (Vernonia amygdalina) have properties, among others, as antimicrobials. Objective:  The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibition of the SARS-CoV-26LU7 protease enzyme by Sesquiterpen Lakton compounds from African leaves using the in-silico tethering method. Method: The in-silicomooring process is carried out using the PLANTS program and visualized using the MOE 2008 program. The protease enzyme was downloaded through the Protein Data Bank (PDB) with code 6LU7. Two-and three-dimensional models were generated using the Marvin Sketch program. The resulting docking value is evaluated as a result of the docking process. Results: The results showed that the protease 6LU7 enzyme tethering of the SARS-CoV-2 virus could provide valid results in-silico. The Sesquiterpen Lakton compounds from Afri can leaves can inhibit the protease enzyme. The docking result is a bletovisualize of the binding amino acids. Conclusion: In this study, it can be concluded that the Sesquiterpen Lakton compounds from African leaves can inhibit the SARS-CoV-2 virus 6LU7 protease enzyme with a docking score close to the docking score of each comparator drug.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes is a dangerous degenerative disease. It even includes adiseasethatis classified as high risk because it can end in death. Diabetes is a heterogeneous syndrome whose overall symptoms are characterized by increased blood sugar levels caused by relative or absolute insulin deficiency. Based on research by Harahap, et al., 2013 and Febby, 2017 Poguntano has chemical compounds that have the potential as antidiabetic compounds, namely saponins as evidenced by the results of research with phytochemical screening results. This study aimstoexa mine the potential of the Poguntano plant as an antidiabetic. This research was conducted using the narrative review method, namely reviewing research articles, research journals, and these relating to the research subject, namely the Poguntano plant has the potential as an antidiabetic in the last 10 years, namely 2011-2021 through a search engine on Google Scholar database, PubMed, and Science Direct with the keywords “antidiabetic, Picria fel-terrae Lour.”. Then proceed with reviewing the articles so that a narrative review will be produced. Based on the results of the collection and selection of articles that have been carried out as the main references reviewed in this study, 11 references were obtained that met the inclusion criteria, research objectives, and journal quality. The results of research conducted by several researchers show that the poguntano plant has potential as an anti-diabetic and even the potency of poguntano is comparable to metformin which is generally used in the treatment of diabetes. Poguntano plant has antidiabetics properties. Where previous studies have conducted tests on animals as well as tests on humans and the results obtained that the poguntano plant is capable and very good at reducing diabetes levels.
