Abstract

Feed availability is one of the key factors determining the success of ruminant livestock operations, especially during the dry season when forage becomes increasingly scarce. This community service activity aims to improve farmers’ knowledge and skills in processing kinggrass and rice straw into silage as a high-quality alternative feed with a longer shelf life. The activity was conducted in Wangka Village on May 8, 2026, using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach through the following stages: problem identification, extension, demonstration, hands-on silage production, mentoring, and activity evaluation. The evaluation was conducted through observation of participants’ ability to practice each stage of silage production, interviews, and assessment of the physical quality of the resulting silage. The results of the community service activity showed that participants were able to understand and practice the silage-making process, starting from chopping forage, mixing fermentation ingredients, compacting the mixture in an airtight container, to the fermentation process itself. The resulting silage had good physical quality, characterized by a greenish-brown color, a fresh, sour aroma, a soft texture, and the absence of mold, indicating that the fermentation process occurred optimally. In addition to improving participants’ skills in feed processing, this activity also enhances the community’s understanding of the importance of silage technology as a solution for securing feed reserves during the dry season, promotes more optimal use of agricultural waste, and supports the development of more efficient and sustainable livestock businesses.

Abstract

Kotoran kambing merupakan salah satu limbah peternakan yang berpotensi besar untuk dimanfaatkan sebagai pupuk organik guna mendukung pertanian berkelanjutan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk pemanfaatan kotoran kambing oleh masyarakat di Kelurahan Mbay II, Kecamatan Aesesa, Kabupaten Nagekeo. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara langsung, dan dokumentasi terhadap 8 responden peternak kambing yang berdomisili di Kelurahan Mbay II, dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei 2026. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat tiga pola pengelolaan kotoran kambing oleh masyarakat, yaitu: (1) kotoran dibiarkan menumpuk di sekitar kandang tanpa pengolahan; (2) kotoran dikumpulkan dan dibiarkan bersama sampah lainnya; dan (3) sebagian kecil masyarakat memanfaatkan kotoran kambing langsung sebagai pupuk organik pada tanaman terung dan lombok dengan hasil yang memuaskan berupa tanaman yang berbuah lebat, daun lebih hijau, serta buah yang tidak cepat layu dan tidak mudah busuk. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pemanfaatan kotoran kambing di Kelurahan Mbay II belum dilakukan secara optimal akibat kurangnya pengetahuan dan pemahaman masyarakat, sehingga diperlukan program edukasi dan pendampingan teknis yang berkelanjutan agar limbah peternakan dapat dikelola dengan baik dan memberikan nilai tambah ekonomi bagi masyarakat peternak setempat. Abstract

Daun pepaya memiliki potensi sebagai bahan pakan alternatif karena mengandung nutrisi seperti protein, vitamin, dan enzim papain yang bermanfaat bagi ternak. Namun, pemanfaatannya oleh masyarakat masih belum optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemanfaatan daun pepaya oleh masyarakat di Desa Ua. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar masyarakat memanfaatkan daun pepaya hanya sebagai sayuran, obat tradisional, dan pakan ternak secara langsung, sedangkan sebagian lainnya menganggap daun pepaya sebagai limbah yang tidak memiliki nilai ekonomi sehingga dibuang atau dibakar. Faktor utama yang menyebabkan rendahnya pemanfaatan daun pepaya adalah kurangnya pengetahuan, keterampilan pengolahan, serta minimnya dukungan dan pelatihan dari pihak terkait. Kesimpulannya yaitu masyarakat masih belum memanfaatkan daun pepaya secara optimal sehingga diperlukan upaya peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat melalui pelatihan dan penyuluhan agar daun pepaya dapat dimanfaatkan secara lebih optimal sebagai bahan bernilai ekonomi dan mendukung peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Abstract

his study aimed to identify the utilization of cow manure waste in Mbay II Village, Aesesa District, Nagekeo Regency, and to determine its development potential. The study was conducted in May–June 2026 using descriptive qualitative methods. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving ten informants familiar with the conditions of cow manure utilization in the study area. The results showed that cow manure waste utilization in Mbay II Village is still carried out in various ways. Some residents have used cow manure as organic fertilizer for agricultural land, while others still dispose of it, burn it, or allow it to accumulate around livestock pens. Use as organic fertilizer is carried out simply without further processing such as composting or liquid organic fertilizer. Furthermore, some residents are aware of the use of cow manure as a renewable energy source in the form of biogas, but its application remains limited. This low level of waste utilization is influenced by a lack of community knowledge, limited skills, a lack of supporting facilities, and a low awareness of the economic value of livestock waste. Optimal utilization of cow manure waste is expected to provide economic, social, and environmental benefits and support sustainable livestock development.

Abstract

Rainfed rice fields have extensive potential in Indonesia, but their utilization is not optimal. Dependence on rainfall and the lack of permanent irrigation results in a cropping pattern of only once a year, with rice as the commodity. This condition results in idle land during the dry season and impacts low farmer income. This study aims to examine the optimization of rainfed rice fields through diversification with horticultural crops as an effort to increase farmer income in Indonesia. The method used is a literature review by analyzing 10 scientific journals obtained through Google Scholar published by reviewing various research results related to rainfed land centers. The results show that optimization through diversification into horticultural crops such as chilies, tomatoes, mustard greens, and spices can increase farmer income. Horticultural crops have high economic value, a fast harvest cycle of 2-3 months, and stable market demand. The success of optimization is largely determined by the efficient use of farm inputs and the role of agricultural extension workers as facilitators. In conclusion, optimizing rain-fed rice fields with horticultural crops is an effective strategy for increasing farmer income in Indonesia if supported by efficient farming practices, strengthening farmer groups, and improving market access.

Abstract

Young coconut waste is a significant source of organic waste generated from the sale and consumption of young coconuts. Much of this waste—comprising husks, shells, and residual flesh—remains underutilized, posing a potential risk of environmental pollution. Meanwhile, the demand for livestock feed continues to rise alongside the growth of the livestock industry, even as the cost of conventional feed ingredients increases. This study aims to identify types of young coconut waste suitable for use as livestock feed and to examine appropriate processing techniques. The methodology involved a literature review and descriptive analysis of scientific sources regarding the utilization of agricultural waste for animal feed. The findings indicate that young coconut waste—particularly husks and residual flesh—contains organic matter that can serve as a source of fiber and energy for ruminant livestock. Processing methods such as chopping, drying, and fermentation can enhance the nutritional quality and digestibility of these materials. Utilizing young coconut waste as livestock feed offers economic benefits through reduced feed costs and environmental benefits by minimizing organic waste disposal.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Peanut shell waste is a byproduct of peanut production that is no longer utilized. However, this waste has not been optimally utilized and is generally discarded or burned, potentially causing environmental pollution. This study aims to identify the use of peanut shell waste as an alternative cattle feed in Wea Au Village. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consisted of 10 peanut farmers, community leaders familiar with the agricultural conditions in Wea Au Village. The results showed that peanut shell waste is generally used as organic fertilizer and is simply discarded around agricultural land or burned because it is considered to have no economic value. This situation results in the underutilization of agricultural waste. Conclusion: Peanut shell waste has not been optimally utilized because peanut shells are not utilized properly by the community, and are often simply discarded or burned. Therefore, outreach and mentoring efforts are needed to increase community awareness of the potential of peanut shell waste as organic fertilizer and livestock feed.

Abstract

Current educational issues center on technology, cultural integration, and the challenge of equity. The primary focus is how to cultivate a generation of critical, digitally literate individuals while preserving local moral values amidst the onslaught of global culture. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of science instructional designs based on ethnoscience-technology on the learning interests of junior high school students in Nagekeo district. This research uses quantitative methods to analyze teachers' abilities to design ethnoscience-technology-based instructional designs and students' learning interests when taught by teachers. The participants were science teachers and students at junior high schools in Nagekeo District, NTT. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and observation sheets and analysis used quantitative descriptive and correlation analysis. The results show that teachers have linked the science material taught with cultural activities in Nagekeo district and included technology (ethnoscience-technology). Furthermore, there is a very strong and significant positive relationship between the quality of science teacher's instructional designs based on ethnoscience-technology and the learning interest of junior high school students in Nagekeo Regency with r=0.981. The conclusion of this research explains that science teachers in Nagekeo district have designed ethnoscience-technology based science instruction and it correlates with students' learning interests
