Abstract

Early childhood, according to Yuliani Sujiono (2014), is a child aged from birth to 6 years. This period is very crucial in the formation of character, personality, and intellectual abilities of children. Early childhood education can be understood as a learning process that focuses on developing potential including cognitive, emotional, social, physical-motor, language, and moral aspects. The center learning model is an educational approach specifically aimed at early childhood, with an emphasis on development through play activities. This approach combines two main elements, namely circle time and play centers. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection is carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, and field notes. Learning at Kemala Bhayangkari 05 Kindergarten, Banten Region, shows significant effectiveness in implementing the center learning model.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze disciplinary attitudes in the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS) in children aged 5-6 years at TKIT Bina Bangsa Islamic School. The main focus of the study is how discipline is formed through the habit of washing hands, disposing of trash in its place, and maintaining personal hygiene in the school environment. The research approach used was descriptive qualitative with children in group B as the research subjects. Data collection techniques were carried out through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and the principal, and documentation. The results showed that children's disciplinary attitudes in PHBS had been well formed through consistent habituation methods, examples set by educators, and the support of school facilities. The children's discipline was evident in their awareness of hygiene procedures without the need for repeated instructions, indicating that hygiene values had been internalized as part of their daily character.

Abstract

Creativity is one of the important aspects of early childhood development that needs to be fostered through learning activities that provide space for children to express themselves. However, in practice, art activities in Early Childhood Education (ECE) institutions often remain structured and have not fully provided children with the freedom to develop their imagination. This study aims to describe the efforts of an ECE institution in optimizing early childhood creativity through free drawing activities. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The research subjects consisted of the principal, teachers, and children at TK Kemala Bhayangkari 05 Serang City. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that free drawing activities were carried out regularly as part of journal activities in the classroom by providing various drawing media, such as colored pencils, crayons, markers, watercolor paints, and acrylic paints. The teacher acted as a facilitator who created a safe, comfortable learning atmosphere and did not limit children’s ideas, so that children could express their imagination and feelings freely. This activity proved to be able to enhance children’s creativity, as indicated by their courage in expressing ideas, the variety of drawing forms, and their ability to explain their work. Thus, free drawing activities supported by adequate media, a conducive learning environment, and the teacher’s facilitative role can optimize the development of early childhood creativity. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of implementing art activities that highlight children’s creative process in ECE learning.

Abstract

Independence is a crucial aspect of development that requires stimulation from an early age through meaningful learning experiences. One activity with the potential to foster children's independence is the communal lunch program regularly implemented in early childhood education institutions. This study aims to describe the implementation of the communal lunch program in stimulating the independence of children aged 4–5 years at Bunayya Islamic School Jakarta, identify the forms of independence that develop, and analyze the factors supporting and hindering its implementation. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of the school principal, teachers of the 4–5 age group, and children aged 4–5 participating in the lunch program. Data collection was conducted through observation, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the communal lunch program is implemented in a structured manner, involving activities such as handwashing, praying, serving food according to needs, eating together, and tidying up eating utensils afterward. The program effectively stimulates the development of self-help skills, simple decision-making abilities, self-regulation, responsibility, and social interaction among the children. Program success is supported by consistent habituation, teachers acting as role models, and adequate facilities and infrastructure; conversely, hindering factors include varying levels of independence among the children and a lack of consistent habituation within the family environment. Thus, the communal lunch program serves as an effective habituation-based learning strategy for stimulating independence in early childhood. Keywords: lunch program implementation, child independence, habit formation, early childhood education.

Abstract

In the age range of 4-6 years, children begin to develop social skills through interaction in the school environment. Social studies (IPS) learning in early childhood education is not presented explicitly as an independent subject but is integrated into various learning activities, one of which is role-play. This study aims to determine how social studies learning is implemented in the role-play center and to identify the branches of social science that emerge within it. A descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach was used. Data were collected through structured observation, structured interviews, field notes, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, with credibility established through prolonged engagement, persistence, source and technique triangulation, member checks, negative case analysis, and referential material. The subjects were the school principal, teachers, and children of Group B at Pembina Cibeber State Kindergarten, Cilegon City, Banten. The results show that social studies learning has been implemented in an integrated manner through three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation, although its application is not yet evenly distributed across all learning themes. All branches of social studies-history, geography, economics, sociology, and anthropology-emerged contextually through role-play activities such as buying and selling, introducing locations and historical figures, cooperation, conflict resolution, and the introduction of local culture and traditions.
