Abstract

This research is a cultural study that explores the causes and solutions for the issue of hikikomori as depicted in the drama Kazoku Gēmu. The aim of this study is to describe the causes and solutions for dealing with hikikomori issues. The method and technique used in this research are descriptive analysis with observation techniques. This study employs Freud's theories of anxiety and ego defense mechanisms. The findings indicate that the most common cause identified is neurotic anxiety, which includes the family’s lack of genuine concern, betrayal by friends, comparison to siblings, feelings of being unwanted, and lack of communication within the family. Additionally, five types of ego defense mechanisms are found in the drama: projection, reaction formation, displacement, rationalization, and compensation. As a solution to hikikomori issues, compensation is predominantly observed in forms such as resisting oppression, not avoiding problems, diligent studying, seeking satisfaction, and establishing communication with the family. In conclusion, the primary cause of hikikomori phenomena in Kazoku Gēmu is largely attributed to family-related issues. Therefore, hikikomori problems can be addressed within the family environment.

Abstract

One of the graduate profiles of Takumi Polytechnic Japanese Language Diploma Program (Program Studi D3 Bahasa Jepang Politeknik Takumi) students is to become a Japanese language tutor at a non-formal institution. Thus, students need to be equipped with knowledge about Japanese teaching methods. Minato, a platform developed by The Japan Foundation, not only provides free Japanese language courses but also courses on Japanese teaching methods for Japanese language teachers. This course material is used for the taching material for the Metode Pengajaran Bahasa Jepang untuk Tingkat Menengah (Japanese Language Teaching Methods for Intermediate Level) course. This study aims to examine the use of Minato in the course. The results of this study found that students responded well and supported the reuse of Minato as a material in a series of Japanese language teaching lecturers in the Japanese Language Diploma Program at Takumi Polytechnic with some suggestions for improvement

Abstract

Durian is a tropical fruit belonging to the climacteric group, meaning it experiences a surge in respiration after harvest and quickly deteriorates. Due to its perishable nature, processing is necessary to extend its shelf life and maintain its nutritional value and flavor. One traditional method of processing that has long been known in Indonesia, particularly in Kalimantan and Sumatra, is the fermentation of durian flesh into tempoyak. Tempoyak is a natural fermentation product made from ripe durian flesh that has undergone a further ripening process and has a distinctive sour taste and strong aroma. The tempoyak fermentation process involves the activity of microorganisms, particularly lactic acid bacteria (LAB) such as Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus curvatus, which play a crucial role in producing flavor, a semi-solid texture, and functional health benefits. Human food needs depend not only on the quantity of food but also on the quality of its nutritional content, such as carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals. In this context, fermented foods such as tempoyak provide added value in the form of probiotics that have the potential to improve digestive health. Lactic acid bacteria, which dominate the natural fermentation process, play a crucial role in the formation of flavor compounds and beneficial biological activities. This study aimed to isolate and identify the types of LAB present in traditional tempoyak from Jambi. Isolation was conducted to obtain pure strains of bacteria with potential probiotics, while identification aimed to determine the dominant bacterial species in the tempoyak fermentation process. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of functional food products based on local fermentation.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the implementation and evaluate the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PBL) model in the project of translating safety videos in the field of press machining at a Japanese company. With the increasing number of foreign workers in Japan, the need for accurate and easily understandable translations is crucial to ensure a good understanding of safety procedures in the press machining field. The PBL model, which engages learners through direct involvement in real projects, is expected to enhance translation skills, content comprehension, as well as collaboration and problem-solving abilities. This research employs a mixed-method approach, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests to measure the students' translation skills before and after the project, observations, and field notes to identify constraints and challenges faced, as well as in-depth interviews with students and instructors to gain their perspectives on the effectiveness of the PBL model. Additionally, video analysis of the translated work was conducted to assess the quality and accuracy of the translations. The results indicate that the PBL model is effective in improving translation skills in the field of press machining. Students involved in this project showed significant improvement in both their translation abilities and their understanding of press machining. Despite some constraints and challenges, such as limited time and resources, students felt that the PBL model provided a more engaging and meaningful learning experience. This study concludes that the PBL model is an effective approach for use in translating safety videos in the field of press machining at Japanese companies. Recommendations include curriculum enhancements, instructor training, and the provision of adequate resources to support the successful implementation of the PBL model in the future
