Abstract

This study conducts a comparative analysis of Indonesian Islamic banks' performance before and after spin-off, merger, and conversion. Using a quantitative approach, the research applies paired t-tests and Wilcoxon tests to assess financial performance across six categories: liquidity, financing, efficiency, profitability, capital adequacy, and non-performing financing. Data from six Islamic banks over ten years were analyzed, comparing performance pre- and post-establishment. The findings reveal no significant differences in performance for banks that underwent pure spin-offs. However, banks formed through mergers demonstrated improvements in operational efficiency, return on assets (ROA), and capital adequacy (CAR), while conversions exhibited strong financing performance but faced capital risk and lower profitability. These results suggest that mergers offer a more efficient establishment method for enhancing bank performance, while conversions require careful capital management. The research highlights the importance of strategic decisions regarding the choice of establishment method for Islamic banks, with significant implications for bankers and policymakers aiming to optimize Islamic bank performance.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to examine the key factors influencing the export performance of micro- and small-sector enterprises (MSMEs), aiming to identify critical elements that can enhance MSME growth and assess their implications for the Indonesian economy in comparison to Malaysia. The study aims to provide insights into the export of MSMEs, the simultaneous and partial effects of exchange rates, inflation, interest rates, GNI per capita, and labor on MSME exports in Indonesia and Malaysia, the identification of the most dominant factors among these variables affecting MSMEs exports for Indonesia, and a comparative analysis of MSME exported performance in both countries.

Abstract

The current study focuses on the existence of exchange rate volatility that impacts the return of MSCI Islamic stocks in Asia emerging countries. The study also sees comparisons between Islamic emerging markets in Asia (India, China, and Korea) and Southeast Asia regions (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines). This study's daily time series data is from January 2015 to June 2020, employing time series regression as an analysis technique. The EGARCH method is used to indicate the asymmetric model and examines the impact of both good and bad shocks generated. The results highlight that the volatility of the MSINI is statistically positive, whereas MSCNI and MSKRI show a significant adverse effect on volatility. On the other hand, Southeast Asia (MSIDI, MSMYI, MSTHI, and MSPH) has no significant effect on exchange volatility. It is interpreted that the currencies of Southeast Asian countries are not strong enough because they still depend on other exchange rates. This result can be utilized to invest in the Islamic stock market in Southeast Asia because it is not affected by exchange rate volatility. Investors can quickly react to sensitive stocks to avoid uncertainty in stock returns. The government must be advised to increase the fiscal stimulus space and provide ease of business in the real sector.
