Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease whose prevalence continues to increase, including in adolescents. Knowledge about DM prevention in adolescents remains low, so innovative and engaging educational media are needed. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of educational games based on crossword puzzles and word searches in increasing the knowledge of adolescents at risk of DM. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design, comprising stages of application design, expert validation, and limited trials, conducted on 35 adolescents aged 12–18 years using purposive sampling. Community nurses and psychiatric nurses carried out validation. Knowledge was measured using the Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire-24 (DKQ-24) through pre-test and post-test, and then analysed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores from 11.0 ± 1.8 in the pre-test to 18.4 ± 1.7 in the post-test (p < 0.05). Expert validation confirmed that the application is suitable for use as an educational medium, with satisfaction scores > 4.0 in most aspects. Respondents found the game to be interactive, fun, and helpful in understanding important concepts related to diabetes, although some felt that the difficulty level needed adjustment. This educational game effectively increases the knowledge of adolescents at risk of diabetes and has the potential to be integrated into adolescent health promotion programs. Interactive technology-based media can serve as an engaging educational alternative, supporting community efforts to prevent diabetes.

Abstract

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, including in Kediri District, where the number of cases continues to increase. Limited knowledge among patients, families, and communities regarding TB transmission prevention contributes significantly to ongoing spread. Advances in communication technology—particularly the widespread use of WhatsApp—provide new opportunities for delivering health education in an accessible, efficient, and sustainable manner. This community service program aimed to improve tuberculosis patients’ knowledge about TB transmission prevention through direct counseling and the distribution of educational videos via WhatsApp. The intervention was conducted at Ngasem Public Health Center (Puskesmas Ngasem), involving 30 TB patients as participants. The activity included preparation, face-to-face counseling, distribution of educational videos over five consecutive days, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test questionnaires delivered online. Analysis revealed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge after the intervention, indicated by a p-value of 0.000. These results confirm the effectiveness of WhatsApp as a health education medium capable of reinforcing understanding through repeated exposure to content, clear visual explanations, and ease of access. Furthermore, WhatsApp enables flexible two-way communication between health workers and patients, supporting continuous guidance and clarification. In conclusion, WhatsApp-based video education represents an effective strategy for improving knowledge of TB transmission prevention and holds strong potential for broader and sustained implementation within community health programs.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. Poor family and community knowledge about pulmonary TB has a greater risk of increasing cases of pulmonary TB, while families and communities with good knowledge about pulmonary TB can reduce the incidence of pulmonary TB cases. This study aims to determine the Effect of Health Education Using Brainstorming and Audiovisual Methods on the Knowledge of Families of Tuberculosis Patients. This study is a pre-experimental study with a one-group pre-post-test design. The population is 35 families of tuberculosis patients at the Ngasem Community Health Center, Kediri Regency. The sample size is 35 families of patients selected using a non-probability sampling technique. The research instrument uses a knowledge level questionnaire. Data analysis uses the Wilcoxon test. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test in SPSS, with a significance value of p value = 0.000 <0.05, meaning H1 is accepted, which means there is an Effect of Health Education Using Brainstorming and Audiovisual Methods on the Knowledge of Families of Tuberculosis Patients. Health centers can use Health Education Using Brainstorming and Audiovisual Methods to increase the knowledge of families of tuberculosis patients.

Abstract

The long duration of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment and the need to take medication regularly can cause treatment fatigue and emotional distress. Limited access to information and emotional support may further affect patients’ quality of life. This study examined whether telenursing-based health education could improve the quality of life of patients with tuberculosis at Jemursari Islamic Hospital, Surabaya. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest study with a control group was conducted among 38 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Participants were randomly divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group received health education through telenursing for four weeks, while the control group received routine care according to hospital standards. Quality of life was measured using a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests, with a significance level of 0.05. Quality of life improved significantly in the intervention group after four weeks of telenursing-based health education (p < 0.001). No significant improvement was observed in the control group. A significant difference was also found between the intervention and control groups after the intervention (p < 0.001).  These findings suggest that telenursing-based health education can improve the quality of life of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Telenursing may therefore be a useful approach for providing continuous education and support to patients undergoing long-term treatment. This study used a quasi-experimental pre-post-test control group design. The population consisted of 38 tuberculosis patients at Jemursari Islamic Hospital, Surabaya. A sample size of 38 patients, divided into two groups, was selected using random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using a t-test with α = 0.05. The paired t-test results showed a P-value of 0.000, indicating a difference in quality of life before and after the telenursing-based health education intervention. In the control group, there was no difference in quality of life before and after the intervention, according to hospital standards. The results of the independent t-test for the intervention and control groups showed a P=0.000, indicating that telenursing-based health education significantly improved quality of life. Telenursing-based health education can improve quality of life. Hospitals and nurses can utilize telenursing to provide health education to patients with chronic diseases.
