Abstract

Abstrak Pakan ternak alternatif yang dapat diberikan pada musim kemarau yang bertujuan menambah protein pada ternak adalah silase. Silase merupakan hijauan ternak yang diawetkan pada ruangan anaerob. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan di Desa Slateng, Ledokombo, Jember yang bertujuan untuk menambah wawasan masyarakat bermata pencaharian sebagai peternak. Metode yang diterapkan dalam kegiatan ini adalah ceramah dan diskusi pada sesi sosialisasi, serta praktik secara langsung untuk mengelola hijauan dengan baik dan benar. Praktek eksperimen ini dimulai dengan pemilihan hijauan, pencampuran dengan molase dan starter, fermentasi, pemeriksaan, dan penyimpanan. Silase yang baik adalah silase dengan bau dan aroma yang masam segar tanpa adanya bau tajam yang mengganggu, ph berkisar antara 4, warna kuning kehijauan, tekstur kering dan terasa empuk. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilanjut dengan evaluasi kesukaan ternak. Ternak yang sudah melalui fase adaptasi, mulai menghabiskan pakan alternatif yang diberikan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman peserta meningkat dari kategori mengetahui dari 20% menjadi 75%. Kata kunci: ternak; silase; pakan; hijauan. Abstract Alternative animal feed that can be given in the dry season with the aim of adding protein to livestock is silage. Silage is livestock forage that is preserved in an anaerobic room. This community service was carried out in Slateng Village, Ledokombo, Jember with the aim of increasing the knowledge of people who make a living as livestock breeders. The methods applied in this activity are lectures and discussions at socialization sessions, as well as direct practice to manage forage properly and correctly. This experimental practice begins with selecting forage, mixing with molasses and starter, fermentation, inspection, and storage. Good silage is silage with a fresh sour smell and aroma without any annoying sharp odor, pH ranges between 4, greenish yellow color, dry texture and soft feel. This service activity was continued with an evaluation of the livestock's preferences. Livestock that has gone through the adaptation phase begins to consume the alternative feed provided. The evaluation results showed that participants' understanding increased from the knowing category from 20% to 75%. Keywords: cattle; silage; feed; forage.

Abstract

The majority of the people of Slateng Village, Ledokombo, and Jember are farmers whose main commodities are food and horticultural crops, which have high potential. However, there are crucial problems that threaten to reduce food crop productivity. This problem arises as a result of the large number of pests that attack. Pest management outreach and training in making natural pesticides made from the active ingredient sulfur or jadam sulfur, understanding the problems, and solving existing problems. Community service activities are carried out in several stages. First, socialization and counseling are carried out regarding the types of agricultural pests. Second, the socialization of the use of jadam sulfur pesticide as a multi-purpose pest treatment. Third, an explanation of the composition of sulfur jadam based on monitoring results. Lastly, training in making sulfur jadam. Through this outreach and training, farmers' knowledge of managing agricultural pests increases.
