Abstract

Background and Objective: Energy drinks are commonly consumed as a fast and affordable solution to fatigue, especially among adolescents and young adults. However, public knowledge about their appropriate use and the health risks of excessive intake remains limited. Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid), a conditionally essential amino acid found in many energy drinks, contributes to several physiological functions. Excessive intake of taurine may adversely affect kidney function. Method: The method of this study using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. A 0.1% ninhydrin solution was used for qualitative testing, while UV-Vis spectrophotometry was employed for quantitative measurement. Proteins were precipitated using Carrez I and Carrez II reagents before analysis. Results: A purplish-blue color change in the qualitative test confirmed the presence of taurine. Quantitative analysis revealed taurine concentrations of 0.025% and 0.012% in the two samples.  Conclusion: The results validate UV-Vis spectrophotometry as a practical and dependable technique for analyzing taurine, highlighting the importance of educating the public on the associated health risks of excessive consumption.

Abstract

COVID-19 yang disebabkan oleh SARS-CoV-2 telah menjadi masalah kesehatan global sejak akhir 2019. Salah satu target utama dalam pengembangan terapi antivirus adalah enzim Main Protease (Mpro), yang berperan penting dalam replikasi dan transkripsi virus. Studi berbasis in silico telah digunakan secara luas dalam pencarian senyawa bahan alam yang berpotensi sebagai inhibitor Mpro karena pendekatan ini hemat biaya, efisien, dan dapat memprediksi afinitas senyawa terhadap target molekul secara cepat. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan potensi senyawa bahan alam dari dua studi berbeda sebagai inhibitor Mpro SARS-CoV-2 berdasarkan pendekatan molecular docking, guna mengevaluasi senyawa yang paling menjanjikan dalam pengembangan antivirus berbasis bahan alam. Tinjauan ini menganalisis dua sumber data utama. Studi pertama mengevaluasi sepuluh senyawa bahan alam, termasuk asam maslinat dan luteolin-7-galaktosida, melalui simulasi molecular docking terhadap Mpro (PDB ID: 6LU7). Studi kedua mengevaluasi 46 senyawa aktif dari tanaman Andrographis paniculata (sambiloto), termasuk andrographolide dan turunannya, menggunakan berbagai teknik komputasi seperti PASS prediction, molecular docking, dan ADMET profiling. Asam maslinat menunjukkan nilai energi bebas Gibbs sebesar -8,73 kcal/mol dan konstanta inhibisi (Ki) sebesar 0,40 µM, mengindikasikan afinitas tinggi terhadap Mpro.
