Abstract

Correlational misconceptions experienced by students must be overcome so that they can better understand the relationship between concepts and avoid reasoning errors in solving problems. This study aims to explore the forms of correlational misconceptions experienced by students and analyze the types of limited interventions in each form of student correlational misconceptions on probability materials. This type of research is qualitative-case study. The research subjects were 10 grade XII students at SMA Negeri 1 Boyolali. Data collection uses participatory observation, document analysis, and in-depth interviews. The validity of the data uses triangulation methods. Data analysis includes reduction, presentation, and withdrawal of data conclusions. This study reveals four forms of correlational misconceptions grouped into three main categories. The first category has two misconceptions about students' inability to connect mathematical concepts or procedures logically. This misconception can be overcome by applying disequilibration strategies and cognitive conflicts in sequence. Meanwhile, the second and third categories each include one form of misconception. In the second category, there is a misconception about applying concepts or procedures that are irrelevant to a particular context. On the other hand, the third category is a misconception regarding the error of connecting specific events with general principles. Combination strategies involving disequilibration, cognitive conflict, and scaffolding effectively overcome misconceptions in the second and third categories. The results of these findings can be the basis for further research to develop a learning model that can anticipate the occurrence of correlational misconceptions in students.

Abstract

Mathematical skills are essential in academic contexts, everyday life, and various professional fields. This study is motivated by the low achievement of Indonesian students' mathematics skills in the PISA survey and the importance of integrating technology and psychological factors in 21st-century mathematics learning. This study analyzes the direct and indirect effects of using GeoGebra, self-efficacy, complex work character, and critical thinking ability on students' mathematics learning achievement. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational research design  and involves a sample of 156 grade XI students at a high school in  Boyolali. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires and tests, which were tested for validity and reliability, and data analysis was carried out by path analysis using SPSS. The results showed that the use of GeoGebra and self-efficacy had a significant direct effect on the character of hard work. However, the four variables had no significant direct effect on mathematics learning achievement. The indirect effect of self-efficacy on learning achievement through complex work character was significant, while the other indirect paths were insignificant. This study concludes that complex work character is an important mediator that connects self-efficacy with mathematics learning achievement. This study recommends strengthening self-efficacy and utilising learning technologies such as GeoGebra and appropriate pedagogical strategies to build positive learning dispositions and improve mathematics learning outcomes.

Abstract

Mid-semester summative assessments play a crucial role in supporting competency-based learning in the Kurikulum Merdeka. However, existing studies and field practices indicate a persistent gap: teachers rarely conduct systematic psychometric evaluations. Addressing this gap, this study aims to (1) analyze the structure and characteristics of a mid-semester mathematics summative assessment and (2) evaluate the quality of its items based on psychometric criteria within the framework of CTT. Using a mixed-methods sequential exploratory design, data were obtained from two mathematics education experts, two mathematics teachers, and a school principal in an Islamic Integrated Secondary School in Sukoharjo Regency. Data sources included interview transcripts, assessment documents, students’ response sheets, and expert validation forms. Qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, while quantitative data were examined using Aiken’s V and CTT. The findings reveal that the assessment consisted of 40 multiple-choice items and 5 essay questions, covering Number and Algebra elements of Phase D in the Merdeka Curriculum. The items' content validity was moderate, with strengths in language but weaknesses in cognitive level alignment. Empirical results showed some multiple-choice items were invalid, while all essay questions were valid and reliable (r = 0.88). Most items were moderately difficult, with a discrimination index from fair to excellent (0.3 ≤ D ≤ 0.8). However, nearly one-third of distractors in the multiple-choice items did not function well. These results highlight the need for improved item construction and teacher capacity-building to ensure assessments that align with the principles of the Kurikulum Merdeka and support high-quality measurement of student competency.
