Abstract

In the process of learning English, students have to master vocabularies. However, the students have some problems when learning vocabularies. To cope with the students’ problems, the learning process applied game-based learning. The objective of the study entitled “The Implementation of Using Digital Games in Atarashii Smart Center” were to describe the Implementation of digital game in teaching vocabularies and to find the students’ responses toward the implementation of digital game. The subject of this study was the students in Atarashii smart center who joined English class. This study used a descriptive qualitative research design. To gets the data, the researcher employed observation, questionnaire and interview. The researcher used percentage of respondents to get responses. The implementation of digital game in teaching learning process is easy to implemented, but there are some difficulties from the students. Students’ difficulties in learning vocabulary were (1) Most of student found difficulties to memorize and choose the appropriate meaning, (2) Students start to burdened when they have to memorize the vocabulary in limited time, (3) Also still confused in using vocabulary. But students’ responses still show positive results. The students enjoy and enthusiasm to use digital game in their learning process. After finding the difficulties, using digital game to learn vocabulary showed a positive effect. The result showed that learning vocabulary using digital game is better than traditional learning. From the total respondents 42% of the students strongly agree and 18% of the students agree that digital game helped the students to master vocabulary. In conclusion, Digital game clearly has the potential to lead the way into better learning outcomes for young learners, particularly in vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Language is a communication tool to convey ideas and information. Sometimes language has a different meaning from the meaning spoken by the speaker. The speakers need to maintain their utterances to make the information that they gave still relevant and accepted by the interlocutor or still on the direction of the talk exchange. Maxims are language rules that govern linguistic interactions. This research focuses on the flouting maxim used by ten characters in Luca movie. This research aimed to find out the types of maxims are flouted by the characters and the reasons for flouting maxims used by the characters in Luca movie. The researcher used descriptive-qualitative to collect the data and assisted with Atlas.ti software for data coding. In analyzing the data the researcher employed Grice, (1975) maxims theory. The finding of this research showed that the ten characters flouted four maxims: flouting the maxim of quality (13), flouting the maxim of quantity (9), flouting the maxim of relevance (11), and flouting the maxim of manner (3). The reasons why the characters flouted the maxim is to cover something up, to convince the listeners, to hide something, to provide further explanation, give additional information, to emphasize certain points, to express expectations, to change the topic, to give unimportant information, to avoid talking about something, to get attention, and to be clear.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the pragmatics speech act classification 1) What are the types of illocutionary act 2) What is the most dominant types of illocutionary act performed by the main character in the movie titled Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Here, this research used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the data provide. From the data , the researcher discovered 76 utterances which is spoken by the main character that contain four out five speech act s by Searle’s theory (1969). In this study, the result shows as expressive holds the top among all speech acts types with the 28 data found (37%). The other speech act show Directive as the second position with 27 data (35%), the third is Representative with 16 data (21%), fourth is Commissive 5 (7%) data, and the last position is Declarative with 0 data (0%).
