Abstract

Penelitian ini dimulai dari munculnya masalah perbedaan solidaritas dalam novel Out. Wanita tidak lagi sosok pasif, menunggu, dan menjadi objek untuk memuaskan laki-laki. Dalam hal ini, upaya peneliti untuk mengungkap bagaimana solidaritas yang ada di kalangan perempuan, tujuan atau aspek yang ingin berjuang untuk, dan mengungkap kompleksitas solidaritas di kalangan wanita. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori feminis yang dikembangkan oleh Simone de Beauviour. Kompleksitas solidaritas di Out akan terlihat saat menggunakan konsep Simone de Beauviour tentang feminisme dan subjekobjek hubungan (yang lain), wanita dalam kelompok solidaritas yang terdiri dari solidaritas sebagai kekuatan, solidaritas sebagai palsu, dan etika praksis pembebasan Dalam novel Out Natsuo Kirino keinginan jelas perasaan mengungkapkan, pikiran, dan masalah perempuan pada zamannya masih sangat relevan saat ini. Perempuan adalah agen beralasan bahwa harga dirinya dalam kemampuan untuk menentukan nasib mereka sendiri. Pada akhir solidaritas dalam bentuk kejahatan adalah perjuangan utama yang harus dilancarkan oleh perempuan dalam novel luar, di mana tidak ada cara lain yang bisa membebaskan mereka dari situasi yang tertindas. Solidaritas membuat mereka mampu menghadapi berbagai masalah, ancaman, dan gangguan.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the social conflicts and factors that cause social conflicts in the novel Yakou Kanransha by Minato Kanae. This research is analyzed using a structural approach. Meanwhile the research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The data sources used in this study is a Japanese novel with the title Yakou Kanransha which was published in Japan in 2010. Overall, this novel talks about the various conflicts experienced by the characters in each of their families. The characters involved in the conflict in this novel. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that there are several social conflicts that occur in this novel, including: rudeness, fighting, killing, bullying and social class discrimination. In addition, this data analysis found that the factors that cause social conflicts include differences of opinion, differences of interest, differences of views, and differences of stance and belief.

Abstract

In this research, the writer wants to examine the conflict of Shiraishi Itsumi's character in Ankoku Joshi. To analyze this, a structural approach is used with a qualitative descriptive research method. The purpose of this research is to analyze the conflict of Shiraishi Itsumi's character in Akiyoshi Rikako's Ankoku Joshi novel. The data used in this research is the novel Ankoku Joshi by Akiyoshi Rikako which is paired with the Indonesian translation of the novel which was published in 2014. The results of the study show that Shiraishi Itsumi's character experiences external conflict because she is arrogant and want to be the most shining compared to other figures. The internal conflict is also experienced by the character Shiraishi Itsumi due to the influence of her social background which makes her arrogant. The conflict relationship with the background influences each other because the character's character is influenced by the background.

Abstract

This study aims to show the portrait of women's dual roles in two Japanese novels, Out by Natsuo Kirino and Absolute Justice by Akiyoshi Rikako. This research stems from the author's interest in seeing the comparison and similarity of the portrait of women's dual roles reflected in the two Japan's novel. This research uses the method of comparative literature, which focuses on how the authors of the two novels present female characters, namely the character Yayoi and the character Yumiko, who play a dual role as a wife and housewife and also as a woman who has a professional career outside the home, as well as how the goals the author wants to achieve are depicted in the characters Yayoi and Yumiko. The results show that the dual roles of Out is more dominant than that of Absolute Justice, while the goals of the two novels are also different. The novel Out is oriented toward "Working Life." While the novel Absolute Justice is more dominantly oriented towards "Family and Childcare.”

Abstract

Abstract. This study explores the humanistic aspects portrayed in Michihito Fujii's film A Family, focusing on the struggles of yakuza members and their families under the restrictions imposed by Japan's Anti-Organized Crime Countermeasures Law (Botaiho). This research employs a descriptive qualitative method and Carl Rogers' humanistic theory to analyze how the characters, particularly Kenji Yamamoto, navigate social stigma while striving to reconstruct their self-identity. Rogers' concept of self-actualization and incongruence provides a crucial framework for understanding Kenji’s psychological struggles and the broader impact of legal and social exclusion. The findings reveal a connection between self-image, self-esteem, and the ideal self in the characters' efforts to reintegrate into society amidst the marginalization effects caused by Botaiho. The film also highlights the broader implications of legal policies on individuals attempting to leave the criminal underworld, underscoring the need for a more inclusive and supportive social structure. This study contributes to discussions on humanistic values and the psychological impact of marginalization while providing insights into legal policies and their social consequences. Thus, it not only enhances our understanding of the individual struggles depicted in the film but also deepens our appreciation of universal human values. Future research could explore comparative studies on former gang members in different cultural contexts to further understand how legal frameworks and societal perceptions influence identity reconstruction and reintegration.Keywords: A Family, film, botaiho, yakuza, humanistic theory

Abstract

Abstract. This study explore of Marginalization as a Site of Resistance in Akiyoshi Rikako’s works, particularly 暗黒女子(Ankoku Joshi), 聖母(Seibo), and絶対正義(Zettai Seigi). These novels depict marginalized women in a patriarchal societies who leverage their positions to resist the patriarchy structures. This study employs a qualitative approach, integrating Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and bell hooks’ feminist theory. The findings reveal three primary forms of resistance: (1) resistance to gender discrimination; (2) resistance to gender based violence; and (3) resistance against the double burden. Akiyoshi Rikako’s works illustrate how female marginalization can function both as a mechanism of patriarchal structures and as catalyst for empowerment, allowing women to harness their subversive potential. By framing marginalization as a transformative space, this study contributes to broader discussions on gender justice and dismantling of patriarchal systems. The social implications suggest that recognizing marginalization as a site of resistance can inspire real-world activism, empowering marginalized groups, particularly women, to turn their social positions into sources of strength and agency. This study underscores how marginalization can create spaces for resistance and dismantling patriarchal structures that control women’s lives.Keywords: Akiyoshi Rikako, Marginalization, Resistance, Subversive Power, bell hooks

Abstract

This article examines online reader reception of Dazai Osamu’s novel Ningen Shikkaku using Hans Robert Jauss’s literary reception theory. The study focuses on readers’ responses to the novel’s intrinsic elements such as theme, character, plot, setting, and language style as reflected in reviews posted on Amazon, Goodreads, and LibraryThing. This qualitative research employs content analysis and data interpretation based on Jauss’s concepts of horizon of expectations, aesthetic distance, historical reception, and aesthetic experience. The findings reveal that readers respond to Yozo’s narrative affectively and reflectively, interpreting it both as a portrayal of individual alienation in postwar Japanese society and as an expression of existential struggle that transcends cultural boundaries. The novel’s fragmented plot, brutally honest yet poetic language, and historical Japanese setting emerge as key elements shaping reader perception. This study affirms that literary reception is not determined solely by the text, but also by the interaction between the act of reading, cultural background, and the aesthetic expectations of contemporary readers. As such, the research contributes to the broader discourse on modern Japanese literature from the perspective of global readership.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menjelaskan struktur cerita pada cerpen dan film Drive My Car (Doraibu maikā) serta membandingkan keduanya melalui pendekatan Strukturalisme Sastra. Permasalahan yang dikaji mencakup bagaimana struktur naratif dibangun dalam cerpen dan film, serta persamaan dan perbedaannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan sumber data utama berupa cerpen Drive My Car dari kumpulan Onna no Inai Otoko Tachi (teks asli Jepang dan terjemahan Indonesia) serta film adaptasinya yang diperoleh secara daring. Data pendukung berasal dari jurnal, buku, dan penelitian relevan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan tahapan struktur cerita antara cerpen dan film. Meskipun demikian, keduanya tetap memiliki kesamaan maupun perbedaan pada unsur intrinsik, terutama dalam aspek alur, latar, tokoh, dan penokohan, yang mencerminkan transformasi naratif dari medium sastra ke sinema.

Abstract

Readers play an important role in analyzing a literary work. Each reader gives meaning and response to a work that may be similar but can also differ. Therefore, the existence of various online sites for reviewing a literary work enables other readers to see the diversity of responses to a novel. A Japanese novel that has received considerable attention and appreciation from readers is Yukiguni by Kawabata Yasunari. Various reader perspectives can be found on different online sites or blogs, such as Goodreads.com and LibraryThing.com, or in online bookstores like Amazon.co.jp. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to identify reader responses on online sites and analyzes them structurally. Through literary reception studies, it can be observed that each reader has a unique perspective on literature. Literary reception research also shows that literature is not static but is continuously brought to life and renewed by readers with each reading. This enriches literary studies by emphasizing the dialogical aspect between text and reader. The results of this study reveal readers' synchronous comments on the intrinsic elements of the novel which receive appreciation from readers in terms of both praise and criticism.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas konstruksi ideologi gender ryōsaikenbō (istri yang baik dan ibu yang bijak) dalam novel Onnazaka karya Fumiko Enchi melalui pendekatan feminisme sosial-budaya dengan kerangka teori Nira Yuval-Davis. Sebagai ideologi yang dilembagakan sejak era Meiji, ryōsaikenbō membentuk peran domestik perempuan Jepang dalam sistem patriarki yang mengontrol tubuh, emosi, dan kesadaran mereka. Fokus kajian ini adalah tokoh Tomo, seorang istri pejabat aristokrat yang menjalani peran gender secara konformis, namun menyimpan luka dan perlawanan batin yang tidak terlihat secara kasat mata. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa Onnazaka merepresentasikan lima dimensi utama ideologi gender menurut Yuval-Davis: (1) struktur sosial dan budaya; (2) peran gender dalam keluarga; (3) simbolisme keibuan; (4) identitas kolektif; dan (5) interseksionalitas. Tomo mengalami represi psikologis yang dalam sebagai akibat dari internalisasi norma gender, serta dikonstruksikan sebagai simbol moral keluarga tanpa ruang untuk ekspresi personal. Tubuhnya menjadi medan ideologis yang menyimpan beban simbolik budaya patriarki. Selain itu, usia dan status sosial memperparah subordinasinya, menjadikannya tak terlihat dalam sistem keluarga. Namun demikian, melalui narasi batin dan simbolisme tubuh, novel ini juga menghadirkan resistensi sunyi yang muncul dari kesadaran eksistensial perempuan. Kesunyian, rasa sakit, dan penyangkalan diri menjadi bentuk protes halus terhadap sistem yang menindas. Dengan demikian, Onnazaka tidak hanya mengungkap represi gender dalam budaya Jepang modern, tetapi juga membuka ruang bagi pembacaan feminis atas perlawanan perempuan yang bersifat subtil namun bermakna.
